In this study, we investigated the stone materials used in the Woldae of Kwanghwamun gate to estimate their provenances. The Woldae was partly reconstructed in 2010 using red-colored original stone and greyish new stone. We carried out geological survey in Mt. Bukhan (Bukhansan) and Mt. Surak (Suraksan) to estimate the source of stone, where red-colored granitic rocks are widely distributed. Though the petrographical features of the granitic rocks from the surveyed area are quite similar, there exists a slight variation of magnetic susceptibility and color index of the rocks: the granitic rocks from Mt. Surak have higher value of magnetic susceptibility and clearer reddish feature. A series of evidence, such as historical records, stone cutting traces and petrographical features, for the source of stone materials used in the Woldae tells that Mt. Surak would have been the provenance for the stone materials used in the Woldae. We also conducted a nondestructive test to examine the physical property of the rocks. The original stone shows low compressive strength (147 MPa) due to the weathering, whereas the rock in Mt. Surak has higher compressive strength (244 MPa) capable of being used as building materials. If there were any difficulties to use the granitic rocks in Mt. Surak, some granitic rocks that have similar petrological characteristics, such as Changsu stone and Yeongjung stone from the Pocheon area, could be used as building material instead.
The indirect technique for making cast restoration requires that dies be as accurate and durable as possible. Currently, stone is the most commonly used material for die. However, it has some problems such as the weakness in its strength and low abrasion resistance. Recently, epoxy resin die systems have become available. The purpose of this study was to examine two commercially available resin die systems and evaluate some characteristics for their clinical performance. This study evaluated the dimensional accuracy of epoxy resins and their wettability with impression materials. In this study, the first experiment was about dimensional accuracy of different die materials. The master model was made of stainless steel. 10 models were made of two epoxy resins (Die-epoxy, Tri-epoxy) and a die stone (Fujirock) each. Occlusal diameter (Dimension I), occluso-gingival height (Dimension II), and interabutment distance (Dimension III) were measured in each model. Next, the contact angles of die materials with impression materials were observed. The blocks were made of polyether, hydrophilic additional silicone, polysulfide impression materials. By drop-ping the same amount (0.05ml) of Tri-epoxy, Die-epoxy, and die stone on the blocks, 10 samples of each die material were made. After setting of materials, the contact angles were measured. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The expansion of stone die and the shrinkage of resin dies in occlusal diameter were observed, and stone and Tri-epoxy were expanded and Die-epoxy was shrinked in occluso-gingival height. There was little change among materials in interabutment distance (p<0.05). 2. In comparison with the master model Tri-epoxy had the least variation in measurement of the three die systems examined. Die-epoxy was next, and die stone showed the greatest variation. 3. The compatibility of die stone for polyether, hydrophilic additional silicone, polysulfide decreased in order, wherease epoxy materials had the decreased compatibility for polyether and polysulnde, hydrophilic additional silicone in order. It was not statistically different between polyether and polysulfide (p<0.05). 4. The contact angles of Tri-epoxy, Die-epoxy, die stone were getting bigger in order.

The preservation treatment for the outer rampart of Namhansanseong fortress is needed due to partial collapse and separation of stone materials. In this study, we investigated the petrological features of the stone materials used for the outer rampart and estimated their provenances through the geologic survey. Through the above study, the suitable replacement stone in the maintenance of outer rampart were suggested. The stone materials of the above outer rampart consist of the banded gneiss, augen gneiss, granitic gneiss and porphyroblastic gneiss. Among these four kinds of rocks, granitic gneiss is quantitatively the most abundant. Petrological comparisons between stone materials and rocks distributed around the fortress, lead to the conclusion that the above materials are likely to have been delivered from around the fortress. Judging from the results of the comparison on frequency of use and strength characteristics among the above rocks, the granitic gneiss is considered to be suitable for restoration of the outer rampart of the fortress.
The stone dusts produced during the manufacturing process of stone blocks are considered as one of industrial waste materials. This stone dusts are managed to either burying under the ground or stacking in the yard, but this disposal process is required an extra costs. The stone dust disposal like burying or stacking also cause environmental pollution such as ground pollution and subterranean water pollution. Thus, this study was conducted to explore the possibility of recycling stone dusts as a concrete mixing material in order to extend recycling methods. Based on the experiment results on various ratios of cement to stone dust content, the compressive strengths of concrete were recorded in the range of $20{\sim}30\;N/mm^2$. The results did not show any decrease in compressive strength due to the stone dust content. It can be concluded that the stone dusts produced by stone block manufacturing can be sufficiently recycled as one of concrete mixing materials in the aspect of compressive strength.
Stone board for the rock bed was needed to reduce weight using thin thickness and reinforced materials. In this work, stone/wood board for rock bed was studied. Stone and wood were attached to reduce total weight of stone for rock bed. For reinforcing wood heat treatment method was used to change surface and mechanical properties. Mechanical strength of heat treated wood increased more than neat condition. The optimum heat treatment condition was set on $100^{\circ}C$ under tensile, flexural loads whereas surface energy was also obtained by contact angle measurement. Optimum adhesive condition was to get the maximum adhesion between stone and wood. Lap shear test was performed for stone/wood board with different adhesives such as amine type epoxy, polyurethane, chloro-rubber and vinyl chloride acetate type. Fracture surface of lap shear test was shown at wood fracture part on stone using amine type epoxy adhesive. It was found that for high adhesion between stone and wood the optimum adhesive was epoxy type for the rock bed.
The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of currently used elastomeric impression materials for complete arch impression taking. Five elastomers (Impregum, Permlastic, Express, Extrude, Examix) and one Irreversible hydrocolloid (Aroma-fine) were tested. For each material, 5 impressions were made of stainless steel model to which five tapered posts were attached. Custom trays were used for polyether and polysulfide impression materials, and putty/wash two step technique was used for addition polyvinylsiloxane impression materials. Improved stone mod els were poured to all impressions. Accuracy of the materials was assessed by measuring ten distances on stone dies poured from impressions of the master model. All measurements for master and improved stone models were made with three dimensional measuring machine. The results were as follows 1. The dimensional accuracy of polyether, extrude, and examix were significantly superior to poly-sulfide, exress, and alginate in reproducing full arch mode (p<0.05) 2. There were no statistical differences in dimensional accuracy for full arch impression between polyether extrude and examix (p>0.05). 3. there were no statistical differences in dimensional accuracy between polysulfide, express, and alginate(p>0.05). 4. There were no statistical differences between addition polyvinyl siloxane materials (p>0.05) 5. There were no statistical differences between anterior-posterior and lateral dimensional changes of all impression materials (p>0.05).

Because the underwater structures are subjected to the deterioration according to use environment, it is necessary to repair and reinforce when the durable performances are considered in structures. In generally, epoxy mortar is used to repair materials of underwater concrete. It is divided epoxy and filler which is organized cement and sand. Cement can be replaced by stone powder sludge in waste because the grading of stone powder sludge in drying state has similar to that of cement. As result of study, it is possible that stone powder sludge can be applied for replacement materials of cement in epoxy mortar, because the strength is not different when filler in epoxy mortar is alternated stone powder sludge.
Friction between stone and saw of stone cutting machine generates the noise of 96-104 dB in the frequency range of 2kHz-8kHz, which may cause occupational hearing loss. By designing enclosures which are made of transparent acryl, PVC panel and absorption materials, about 15 dB noise reduction has been achieved in the stone cutting factory. It is demonstrated that this kind of enclosures can be effectively used to reduce the noise in the stone cutting factory.
