  • An investigation was conducted to evaluate the hygienic status of 33 high school foodservice systems in Yongin city by using hygiene management guide checklist, ATP bioluminescence assay and microbe inspection petrifilm (APC, coliform group, Staphylococcus aureus) of food utensils during use. The 22 hygiene management guide checklist items about facilities, personal hygiene, food control, distribution, washing and disinfection had good grade but there were some inadequate behaviors on observation. The inspection results showed their sanitary condition met the level B of the recommendation of Korea method, it means sanitary management system get settled but more practical CCP system was needed. • In this paper, an integrated control system is proposed for automatic control and remote monitoring of pipeline type UV sterilizer. The proposed system can control the cleaning wiper in the sterilizer with various cleaning motions, and periodically check the contamination level of the UV lamps with the UV power sensors. Therefore, sterilizer repair and maintenance can be more effectively done. In addition, the control system based on the open-source processor can communicate with external smart devices via Bluetooth, and thus wirelessly exchange control commands and sensor data. Furthermore, the system is able to flexibly cope with changes of cleaning motions and sensors since its firmware can be wirelessly upgraded by using the smart device. Consequently, the proposed system is suitable to construct a smart sewage treatment system in small towns.

  • There are several electricity applied sterilizers such as using high frequency, ozone, high voltage, and so on. Those sterilizers feature "because of no chemical process and no secondly environmental pollution". At the power conversion part, ZVS and ZCS methods have been used that it results in reduced switching loss, miniaturized size, and lightened weight. Besides, the current in the propose device is smaller than that of existing method. Thus, it is expected that the cost of sterilization process, when quality of the device is measured by power consumption, will be reduce. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to solve the sterilization problems of existing powder with high voltage and field to and more economical and effective way, and to suggest mere improved sterilizer.

  • A sterilizer equipment by using electrical energy has merits that no process of chemical and no second environmental pollution. Also, the power conversion circuit for sterilizer equipment has merits that are reducing switching loss for soft switching topology by using zero current and zero voltage switching, and miniaturizing size of equipment. Thus, it is expected that the cost of sterilization process, when quality of the device is measured by power consumption, will be reduced. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to solve the sterilization problems of existing powder with plasma sterilization device, to find more economical and effective way, and to suggest more improved sterilizer.

  • The incidence of hospital infection has been seriously increased in the general hospital in recent years. This study was performed on hospital air and materials in a General Hospital in Seoul from June to December in 1980. The results were as follows: 1. Air sampling was done in multiple strategic areas by exposing standard petridishes for 5 minutes. There was a significant difference of airborne microbe between places. ($F._{99}$ = 3.2, p < 0.01). 2. The mean colony count was 8.6$\pm$6.2 colonies / plate / 5 minutes. 3. Gram stains of colony in air sampling were Gram (+) cocci 66.5%. Gram (+) rod 18.4%, Gram (-) cocci 1.3%, Gram (-) rod 8.7% Fungus 4.5%. 4. For the evaluation of sterilization of steam sterilizer and ethylene oxide gas sterilizer, biological monitoring were done by commercial spore strip. Positive culture was obtained in 2 out of 41 tests on 3 steam sterilizers, and in 3 out of 13 tests on ethylene oxide gas sterilizer. 5. Product sampling and culture were done for 2 kinds of disinfectants and 30 sets of various operation package or dressing materials. Positive culture was obtained in one disinfectants.

  • For the purpose of improving the UV sterilization for toothbrush, the sterilizing effects by the UV light were studied. When toothbrushes were treated with the UV light for 5, 15, 30, 60 minutes, the sufficient antibacterial effect were shown after 15 minutes with 80% of bactericidal effects. To prevent the brownish stain on the sterilizer which was caused by the long exposure of UV light, no UV treatment for two hours after 15 minutes exposure were scheduled and then 3 minutes re-exposure were performed, which showed 97% of bactericidal effect. Also, the antibacterial effects of the sterilizer showed different results depending on the position of the toothbrush, it was recommended to adjust toothbrush to be exposed by the UV light directly.

  • Recently, there has been increasing interest in enhancing the indoor air quality, particularly in response to the growing utilization of public facilities. The focus of this study was on assessing the efficacy and safety of an air sterilizer equipped with electrolytic salt catalysts. To that end, we evaluated the antimicrobial activity of the vapor spraying from the air sterilizer and its cytotoxicity in condensed form on human cell lines (HaCaT, BEAS-2B, and THP-1). Against the test organisms, which comprised five bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium) and one fungal strain (Candida albicans), the air sterilizer exhibited relatively high antimicrobial activities ranging from 10.89 to 73.98% following 1 and 3 hr of vapor spraying, which were notably time-dependent. Importantly, cytotoxicity assessments on human cells indicated no significant harmful effect even at a 1.0% concentration. Comprehensive safety evaluations included morphological observations, gene expression (Bcl-2, Bax) tests, and FACS analysis of intracellular ROS levels. Consistent with previous cytotoxicity findings, these estimates demonstrated no significant changes, highlighting the air sterilizer's safety and antimicrobial activities. In a simulated 20-hr operation within an indoor environment, the air sterilizer not only showed an 89.4% removal of total bacteria but also a 100.0% removal of Escherichia sp. and fungi. This research outlines the potential of the developed electrolytic salt catalyst air sterilizer to effectively remove indoor microbial pollutants without compromising human safety, underscoring the solution that it offers for improving indoor air quality.

  • We investigated sterilization characteristics of UV lights by counting the number of bacteria units with varying sterilization time and distance from the light source. We focused on an idea that UV light of 184.9 nm could generate ozone and developed a new sterilizer. The UV-ozone duplex system sterilized bacteria faster than UV-only sterilizers. To reduce shadowing effects by target objects, we used UV transparent quartz plate as a support and put a reflecting plate. Distribution of UV irradiation intensity and ozone supply were analyzed by a 3D model and measured by a semiconductor UV sensor. But even with an Al reflector, multi-layered pens could not be treated properly from UV irradiation only. Ozone generating lamp could treat more uniformly multi-layered pens with a stirring fan by supplying ozone to shadowed surfaces.
