  • A micro 3D-PTV system has been constructed using a single camera system. Two viewing holes were created behind the object lens of the microscopic system to construct a stereoscopic viewing image. A hybrid recursive PTV algorithm was used. A concept of epipolar line was adopted to eliminate many spurious candidates. Three-dimensional velocity vector fields were obtained by calculating the three-dimensional displacements of particles that were identified as being identical. The system consists of a laser light source (Ar-ion, 500 mW), one high-definition camera ($1028{\times}1024$ pixels, 500 fps), a circular plate with two viewing holes, and a host computer. The performance of the developed algorithm was tested using artificial images. The characteristic of the vector recovery ratio was investigated for the particle numbers. A micro backward-facing step channel ($H{\times}h{\times}W:\;36{\mu}m{\times}70{\mu}m{\times}3000{\mu}m$) was measured using the developed measurement system. The results were in good qualitative agreement with other results.

  • A photogrammetric camera system and a software have been built for capturing planned stereo images. To evaluate the system,25 planar data from a constructed rock slope were measured using both geological compass and photo system. Comparison of the data groups from both system showed matching relationship that falls within the error range of $5.25\pm4.53$ in strike and $3.18\pm3.17$ in dip angles, when the 2 standard deviation error distributions were considered. To evaluate the errors of the Photo matching and non planarity of the surface, orientations of the same plane were repeatedly measured 20times. These measurements showed error ranges of $8.2\pm3.4$in strike and $6.6\pm3.4$ in dip angle, considering the same error distributions. Measured strikes and dips were compared with the corresponding compass measurements in 5 constructed. slopes to test the system. Stereonet plots showed that the photo system measured data coincided well with the compass measurements. With these evaluations, the photo system can measure the planar structure in inaccessible locations with reliable accuracy at the same time reducing the data gathering period therefore resulting to an efficient geological survey.

  • For high speed visual inspection in semiconductor industries, it is essential to acquire two-dimensional images on regions of interests with a large field of view (FOV) and a high resolution simultaneously. In this paper, an imaging system is newly proposed to achieve high quality image in terms of precision and FOV, which is composed of single lens, a beam splitter, two camera sensors, and stereo image grabbing board. For simultaneously acquired object images from two camera sensors, Zhang's camera calibration method is applied to calibrate each camera first of all. Secondly, to find a mathematical mapping function between two images acquired from different view cameras, the matching matrix from multiview camera geometry is calculated based on their image homography. Through the image homography, two images are finally registered to secure a large inspection FOV. Here the inspection system of using multiple images from multiple cameras need very fast processing unit for real-time image matching. For this purpose, parallel processing hardware and software are utilized, such as Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). As a result, we can obtain a matched image from two separated images in real-time. Finally, the acquired homography is evaluated in term of accuracy through a series of experiments, and the obtained results shows the effectiveness of the proposed system and method.

  • The quantitative evaluation of DEM(Digital Elevation Map) is very important to the assessment of the effectiveness for the applied 3D image analysis technique. This paper presents a new quantitative evaluation method of 3D reconstruction process by using synthetic images. The proposed method is based on the assumption that a preacquired DEM and ortho-image should be the pseudo ground truth. The proposed evaluation process begins by generating a pair of photo-realistic synthetic images of the terrain from any viewpoint in terms of application of the constructed ray tracing algorithm to the pseudo ground truth. By comparing the DEM obtained by a pair of photo-realistic synthetic images with the assumed pseudo ground truth, we can analyze the quantitative error in DEM and evaluate the effectiveness of the applied 3D analysis method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation method, we carry out the quantitative and the qualitative experiments. For the quantitative experiment, we prove the accuracy of the photo-realistic synthetic image. Also, the proposed evaluation method is experimented on the 3D reconstruction with regards to the change of the matching window. Based on the fact that the experimental result agrees with the anticipation, we can qualitatively manifest the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation method.

  • Significant research has been conducted on the W-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system that utilizes the 77 GHz frequency modulation continuous wave (FMCW) radar. To reconstruct the high-resolution W-band SAR image, it is necessary to transform the point cloud acquired from the stereo cameras or the LiDAR in the direction of 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) and apply them to the SAR signal processing. However, there are difficulties in matching images due to the different geometric structures of images acquired from different sensors. In this study, we present the method to extract an optimized depth map by obtaining 6 DOF of the point cloud using a gradient descent method based on the entropy of the SAR image. An experiment was conducted to reconstruct a tree, which is a major road environment object, using the constructed W-band SAR system. The SAR image, reconstructed using the entropy-based gradient descent method, showed a decrease of 53.2828 in mean square error and an increase of 0.5529 in the structural similarity index, compared to SAR images reconstructed from radar coordinates.

  • This paper is to propose a method to obtain a new digital hologram content, a high value-added digital content, by manipulating one or more existing digital hologram contents or depth informations. For the depth informations, we use both the ones converted from disparities by stereo matching and the ones taken by time-of-flight (TOF) depth cameras. For them, we analyze the properties and their differences for the two kinds of depth informations and propose a conversion method to homogenize them. By using them, we propose a method to convert and synthesize the depth informations to calculate a new CGH. Also, we propose a method to get a new digital hologram content by synthesizing the digital holograms themselves according to their linearity. The proposed methods are experimented with various depth informations and digital holograms to show that they are very effective as the manipulating methods for digital hologram contents.

  • In this paper, we primarily address the difficulty of automatic generation of a plausible depth map from a single image in an unstructured environment. The aim is to extrapolate a depth map with a more correct, rich, and distinct depth order, which is both quantitatively accurate as well as visually pleasing. Our technique, which is fundamentally based on a preexisting DepthTransfer algorithm, transfers depth information at the level of superpixels. This occurs within a framework that replaces a pixel basis with one of instance-based learning. A vital superpixels feature enhancing matching precision is posterior incorporation of predictive semantic labels into the depth extraction procedure. Finally, a modified Cross Bilateral Filter is leveraged to augment the final depth field. For training and evaluation, experiments were conducted using the Make3D Range Image Dataset and vividly demonstrate that this depth estimation method outperforms state-of-the-art methods for the correlation coefficient metric, mean log10 error and root mean squared error, and achieves comparable performance for the average relative error metric in both efficacy and computational efficiency. This approach can be utilized to automatically convert 2D images into stereo for 3D visualization, producing anaglyph images that are visually superior in realism and simultaneously more immersive.

  • Generally, a camera isn't located at the center of display in a tele-presence system and it causes an incorrect eye contact between speakers which reduce the realistic feeling during the conversation. To solve this incorrect eye contact problem, we newly propose an intermediate view reconstruction algorithm using both a color camera and a depth camera and applying for the depth image based rendering (DIBR) algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, an efficient hole filling method using the arithmetic mean value of neighbor pixels and an efficient boundary noise removal method by expanding the edge region of depth image are included. We show that the generated eye-contacted image has good quality through experiments.

  • Digital elevation models(DEMs) represent an important data base for orthophoto generation The quality of a DEM depends on the geometrical accuracy of the original point or line data. This study analyzes the effects of grid space and scanning resolution in DEM creation with image matching method. The less standard deviation of DEM error was introduced when we adopted small grid space, but no effects in scanning resolution. Based on the bias error analysis of the DEM, we found that the error of a large scale of aerial photograph was bigger than that of a small scale case, and that such error mainly came from the closed area in large scale photographs. In order to reduce the closed area, the experiment has been conducted using multi scale and different overlap of aerial photo images. The result shows that the size of closed area and the shaded area has been dramatically decreased due to the adoption of multi scale aerial images instead of a couple of stereo images.

  • The Spatial Image contents of Geomorphology 3-D environment is focused by the requirement and importance in the fields such as, national land development plan, telecommunication facility management, railway construction, general construction engineering, Ubiquitous city development, safety and disaster prevention engineering. The currently used DEM system using contour lines, which embodies geographic information based on the 2-D digital maps and facility information has limitation in implementation in reproducing the 3-D spatial city. Moreover, this method often neglects the altitude of the rail way infrastructure which has narrow width and long length. This As the results, We confirmed the solutions of varieties application for railway facilities management using 3-D spatial image contents and database design. Also, I suggested that U-city using topographical modeling about matching methods of high density elevation value using 3-D aerial photo with laser data are best approach for detail stereo modeling and simulation.
