  • In this study, a novel method for dimension measurement of large-scale moving objects using stereo camera with 2-degree of freedom (2-DOF) mechanism is presented. The proposed method utilizes both the advantages of stereo vision technique and the enlarged visibility range of camera due to 2-DOF rotary mechanism in measuring large-scale moving objects. The measurement system employs a stereo camera combined with a 2-DOF rotary mechanism that allows capturing separate corners of the measured object. The measuring algorithm consists of two main stages. First, three-dimensional (3-D) positions of the corners of the measured object are determined based on stereo vision algorithms. Then, using the rotary angles of the 2-DOF mechanism the dimensions of the measured object are calculated via coordinate transformation. The proposed system can measure the dimensions of moving objects with relatively slow and steady speed. We showed that the proposed system guarantees high measuring accuracy with some experiments.

  • Camera arrangement for depth and image correspondence is very important to the computer vision. Two conventional comera arrangements for stereo computer vision are lateral model and axial motion model. In this paper, using the axial motion stereo camera model, the algorithm for camera focal length measurement and the surface smoothness with the radiance-irradiance is proposed fro 3-dimensional image correspondence on stereo computer vision. By adapting the above algorithm, camera focal length can be measured precisely and the resolution of 3-dimensional image correspondence has been improved comparing to that of the axial motion model without the radiance-irradiance relation.

  • In the field of surveillance cameras, it is possible to increase the people detection accuracy by using depth information indicating the distance between the camera and the object. In general, depth information is obtained by calculating the parallax information of the stereo camera. However, this method is difficult to operate in real time in the embedded environment due to the large amount of computation. Jetson TX2, released by NVIDIA in March 2017, is a high-performance embedded board with a GPU that enables parallel processing using the GPU. In this paper, a stereo camera is installed in Jetson TX2 to acquire depth information in real time, and we proposed a people counting method using acquired depth information. Experimental results show that the proposed method had a counting accuracy of 98.6% and operating in real time.

  • In crossing stereo camera system as a security equipment system, a new algorithm for the tracking method of the moving object and the measurement method of distance of the object from cameras to moving object is proposed. The stereo input images are matched by a pixel for the moving object extraction, then the moving elements obtained from an adaptive threshold's value for an error correction and the moving object area extracted by noise eliminative algorithm. In addition to, the moving object traced by control pan/tilt of cameras using a coordinate value of the moving object, and the measurement method of distance to moving object by using special features of the crossing stereo camera system is proposed. From the experimental results, the proposed algorithm was found to be able to measure of the distance and trace for moving object in a stereo security camera system. The error rate of a distance measurement be existed within 6%. Moreover in implementation the proposed algorithm, the stereo security system, the automatic moving robot system and the stereo remote control system will be applied practical application.

  • This paper presents a calibration method of an omnidirectional stereo camera which may be essentially performed for distance measurement to a certain point. In the calibration of the omnidirectional stereo camera, the independent calibrations of two cameras or the calibration of a stereo camera having the small baseline is feasible applying many methods studied in the past. However, the baseline should be large enough for long distance measurement by the omnidirectional stereo camera, since it is not easy to calibrate two cameras with a large baseline at the same time. It is because a test pattern for the calibration, which is simultaneously captured by two omnidirectional cameras, appears too small in at least one of the omnidirectional cameras. It causes inaccurate calibration. In this paper, therefore, we propose a calibration method of the omnidirectional stereo camera with a large baseline and empirically verify its feasibility.

  • Analysis techniques using stereo-photos of object is used widely in close-range-photogrammetry field. but, there is difficulty to use metric camera for specialist. In this study, stereo images were acquired using metric camera and general digital camera about slide in Youngdong area. And they were generated two DEMs based metric camera and digital camera. And it was analyzed the correlation of two DEMs. Therefore, in research that was presented effectiveness of digital camera take the place of metric camera for slope analysis.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for precise detection of corner points on a coplanar checkerboard in order to perform stereo camera calibration using a single frame. Considering the conditions of automobile production lines where a stereo camera is attached to the windshield of a vehicle, this research focuses on a coplanar calibration methodology. To obtain the accurate values of the stereo camera parameters using the calibration methodology, precise localization of a large number of feature points on a calibration target image should be ensured. To realize this demand, the idea with respect to a checkerboard pattern design and the use of a Homography matrix are provided. The calibration result obtained by the proposed method is also verified by comparing the depth information from stereo matching and a laser scanner.

  • This paper describes a new sensor system for 3D environment perception using stereo structured infrared light sources and a camera. Environment and obstacle sensing is the key issue for mobile robot localization and navigation. Laser scanners and infrared scanners cover $180^{\circ}$ and are accurate but too expensive. Those sensors use rotating light beams so that the range measurements are constrained on a plane. 3D measurements are much more useful in many ways for obstacle detection, map building and localization. Stereo vision is very common way of getting the depth information of 3D environment. However, it requires that the correspondence should be clearly identified and it also heavily depends on the light condition of the environment. Instead of using stereo camera, monocular camera and two projected infrared light sources are used in order to reduce the effects of the ambient light while getting 3D depth map. Modeling of the projected light pattern enabled precise estimation of the range. Two successive captures of the image with left and right infrared light projection provide several benefits, which include wider area of depth measurement, higher spatial resolution and the visibility perception.

  • This paper presents a framework of real-time augmented reality on 3-D mobile display with stereo camera tracking. In the framework, camera poses are jointly estimated with the geometric relationship between stereoscopic images, which is based on model-based tracking. With the estimated camera poses, the virtual contents are correctly augmented on stereoscopic images through image rectification. For real-time performance, stereo camera tracking and image rectification are efficiently performed using multiple threads. Image rectification and color conversion are accelerated with a GPU processing. The proposed framework is tested and demonstrated on a commercial smartphone, which is equipped with a stereoscopic camera and a parallax barrier 3-D display.

  • In this paper, we present a novel and practical stereo vision system that uses only one camera and four mirrors placed in front of the camera. The equivalent of a stereo pair of images are formed as left and right halves of a single CCD image by using four mirrors placed in front of the ten of a CCD camera. An object arbitrary point in 3D space is transformed into two virtual points by the four mirrors. As in the conventional stereo system, the displacement between the two conjugate image points of the two virtual points is directly related to the depth of the object point. This system has the following advantages over traditional two camera stereo that identical system parameters, easy calibration and easy acquisition of stereo data.
