Steering axis of suspensions is an important factor that affects ride and handling quality in the vehicle chassis development. Macpherson strut and double wishbone's steering axis are defined geometrically, but multi-link suspensions can not be geometrically analyzed. In this case instant axis theory is commonly used to find a steering axis. Since the steering axis is moving with varying caster and kingpin inclination angle, this method approximately corresponds with exact solution. In this paper, we propose a velocity analysis method to find a pure rotational axis of the wheel relative to suspension arms, that is exact solution of the steering axis. This paper extends the method to analyze the steering axis of multi-link suspensions with bushing compliance. The analysis results applied to double wishbone and multi-link suspensions demonstrate validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

It is difficult to analyze the high speed rolling missile with the generally used missile body fixed coordinates. In this study, we formulate the dynamic equations of the high speed rolling missile with the principal axis of inertia, and make the analytical model of one axis steering missile using pitch/yaw symmetry and complex summation method. With this model we analyze the control characteristics and propose the design considerations of high speed rolling missile with one axis control fin using PNG law in conjuntion with a seeker signal.

This paper presents an approximate synthesis of 5-SS multi link suspension for 2 D.O.F motions. In the proposed synthesis method, alteration curves of camber, toe, kingpin and caster angles are optimized during the bump rebound and the steering motions. And joint positions can be located within desired boundari es. Especially, steering motions are considered for control of kingpin offset and caster trail. Prescribed motions contain both wheel center positions and imaginary kingpin axes in the multi link type suspension. Constraint equations are formulated with di splacement matrix and velocity matrix using instantaneous screw axis.
This research is conducted to develop an automatic steering system for parallel parking, and the performance of the system was evaluated by parallel parking a conventional vehicle. The automatic steering system consisted of MDPS (motor driven power steering) to control steering, ESC (electronic stability control) to acquire wheel speed, ultrasonic sensors to recognize the parking space, and a controller to communicate and handle data. The parallel parking process using the automatic steering control consisted of parking space recognition, parking path generation, and parking path tracking. The path for parallel parking was generated based on a kinematic model of a conventional vehicle, and a PI controller was used to control the steering angle for path tracking. Parallel parking using the automatic steering control was conducted according to vehicle speed conditions. The results show that the errors on the x-axis and y-axis were below 0.54 m and 0.14 m, respectively, and the error on the steering angle was less than $1^{\circ}$. Therefore, it is possible to implement parallel parking using an automatic steering control system for conventional vehicles.
MDPS (motor driven power steering) systems have been widely used in vehicles due to their improved fuel efficiency and steering performance when compared to conventional hydraulic steering. However, the reduction of torque ripples and material cost are important issues. A low resolution position sensor for MDPS is one of the candidates for reducing the material costs. However, it may increases the torque ripple due to the current harmonics caused by low resolution encoder signals. In this paper, the torque ripple caused by the quantized rotor position of the low resolution encoder is analyzed. To reduce the torque ripples caused by the quantization of the encoder signals, the rotor position and the speed are estimated by measuring the frequency of the encoder signals. In addition, the compensating q-axis current is added to the current command so that the 6th order torque harmonic is attenuated. The reduction of torque ripples by applying the estimated rotor position and the compensated q-axis current is verified through experimental results.
In this paper we discuss a direct satellite broadcasting system for vehicle. The proposed satellite-steering algorithm and controller based on it are designed for a communication and broadcasting system which uses the Mugungwha satellite. The Mugungwha satellite that the proposed system should steer is a geostationary orbit device. The satellite-steering algorithm computes azimuth and elevation with reference to a stationary point on earth. This is extended to a real satellite steering algorithm that considers position and attitude. Real moving position and attitude are represented by latitude, longitude, roll, pitch and yaw. To apply these five pieces of information to the reference satellite steering algorithm, we introduce Euler's degree coordinates that express independently the rotation of each axis relative to an axis. There are two ways a basic algorithm of the antenna of a vehicle can track and orient to satellite. One way is a feedback loop method for broadcasting gain, while the other is a feedback loop method for position and attitude of a vehicle. In the present paper, we design a controller of satellite broadcasting system for a vehicle using an algorithm that combines the two methods. We performed a simulation and experiment to prove effectiveness.

Most power steering systems work by using a hydraulic system to turn the vehicle's wheels. The pressure is usually provided by a hydraulic pump driven by the vehicle's engine. A double-acting hydraulic cylinder applies a force to the steering gear, which in turn applies a torque to the steering axis of the road wheels. The flow to the cylinder is controlled by valves operated by the steering wheel ; the more torque the driver applies to the steering wheel and the shaft it is attached to, the more fluid the valves allow through to the cylinder, and so the more force is applied to steer the wheels in the appropriate direction. Since the pumps employed are of the positive displacement type, the flow rate they deliver is directly proportional to the speed of the engine. And for a long time, the type of hydraulic pump pulley was boss welding type. But recently, monolith type driving pulley is widely used. Therefore in this paper we studied the safety of monolith type driving pulley to the extracting force and endurance by FEM analysis and experiments.
This paper focuses on the modeling and analysis a novel two-axis rotary normal-stress electromagnetic actuator with compact structure for fast steering mirror (FSM). The actuator has high force density similar to a solenoid, but its torque output is nearly a linear function of both its driving current and rotation angle, showing that the actuator is ideal for FSM. In addition, the actuator is designed with a new cross topology armature and no additional axial force is generated when the actuator works. With flux leakage being involved in the actuator modeling properly, an accurate analytical model of the actuator, which shows the actuator's linear characteristics, is obtained via the commonly used equivalent magnetic circuit method. Finally, numerical simulation is presented to validate the analytical actuator model. It is shown that the analytical results are in a good agreement with the simulation results.

This study determined the optimal positions of the movable steering wheel and pedal systems of industrial vehicle by various body dimensions. The position of objects and starting driving posture were measured by Martin-type anthropometer and goniometer. The X, Y and Z axis of movable steering wheel and pedal systems were measured horizon distance from right side to left side, horizon distance from front side to rear side and vertical distance from floor to ceiling. During the experiment in order to exclude learning effectiveness with forklift driving, 27 subjects who had male not experiences in driving a forklift used in the experiment. The relationship between the position of steering wheel and driver's posture with body dimensions was analyzed by using correlation relation and paired comparison t-test based on the measured data. The pedal location in X and Z axises was not related with various body dimensions. Also, the steering wheel was different among the angles of the right elbow and shoulder depending on the various body dimensions.
