Reliability in tunnel analysis is necessary to accomplish technically sound design and economical construction. For this, a thorough understanding of the construction procedure including the ground-support interaction has to be obtained. This paper describes a proper modelling technique to simulate the behavior of the steel fiber reinforced shotcrete (SFRS) which maintain the supporting capability in post-failure regime. The additional supporting effect of the steel support was also verified by 3-D analyses and a new load distribution factor were proposed. The use of the plastic moment limit (PML) alone can eliminate the occurrence of the awkwardly high tensile stress in the shotcrete and can successfully model the post-peak ductile behavior of the SFRS. But with this method, moment is limited whenever the stress caused by moment reaches tensile strength of the shotcrete irrespective of the stress by axial force. Therefore, it was necessary to find a more comprehensive method which can reflect the influence of the moment and axial force. This can be accomplished by the proper use of "liner element" which is the built-in model in FLAC. In this model, the peak and residual strength as well as the uniaxial compressive strength of the SFRS can be specified. Analyses were conducted with these two models on the 2-lane road tunnels excavated in class IV and V rock mass and results were compared with the conventional elastic beam model. Results showed that both models can reflect the fracture toughness of the SFRS which could not be accomplished by the elastic beam model.

The Nuclear containment building is a main safety-related structure that performs shielding and conservation functions to prevent highly radioactive materials from leakage to the outside environment in the case of various environmental conditions and postulated accidents. The containment building contains a reactor, steam generator, pressurizer, tank, reactor coolant system, auxiliary system and engineering safety system, and is designed so that highly radioactive materials above the limits specified in 10 CFR 100 do not escape to the outside environment in the case of LOCA(Loss of Coolant Accident) for instance. The containment metal liner plate(CLP) is a carbon steel plate with a nominal plate thickness of 6 mm, which functions as a mold for the wall and dome of the containment building when concrete is filled, fulfills airtightness to prevent leakage of seriously radioactive materials. In recent years, backside corrosion was found on the liner plate in some domestic nuclear power plants. The main cause of backside corrosion was unfilled concrete. In this paper, an inspection technique of assessing filling suitability for CLP backside concrete is developed. Results show that the validity of inspection technique for CLP backside concrete using vibration sensor is successfully verified.
Recently, the demand for pollution-free demolition work of old reinforced concrete and steel structure has rapidly increased as the redevelopment of urban area has been accelerated. This study deals with linear shape charges for explosive jet cutting on steel structure. We have tested material and shape of steel structure, characteristics of thickness and strength, shape of linear shape charges, type of shape charges, cumulative charges, type of liner, stand-off distance, detonation method. effect of sound and vibration by air blast in explosive jet cutting method. So, We developed linear shape charges in order to take advantage of optimum explosive jet cutting condition. Shape charges were made of PETN explosives. We obtained the experimental formula to decide the amount of explosive needed for thickness of steel structure plate. There are prospects for application of the explosion curving technology under the open space conditions for dismantling the steel structure and steel bridge, scrapped old boats, which are going out of service.

Ultrasonic testing are far superior to other nondestructive tests for detecting the disbond interface which occurred in adhesive interface. However, a solid rocket motor consisting of a steel case, rubber insulation, liner, and propellant poses many difficulties for analyzing ultrasonic waves because of the superposition of reflected waves and large differences in acoustic impedance of various materials. Therefore, ultrasonic tests for detecting the disbond interface in solid rocket motor have been applied in very limited areas between the steel case and rubber insulation using an automatic C-scan system. The existing ultrasonic test cannot detect the disbond interface between the liner and propellant of a solid rocket motor because most of the ultrasonic waves are absorbed in the rubber material which has low acoustic impedance. This problem could be overcome by analyzing the resonance frequency from the frequency spectrum using the ultrasonic resonance method. In this paper, a new technique to detect the disbond interface between the liner and propellant using ultrasonic resonance characteristics is discussed in detail.

The microstructure of the 1020 mild steel target in the region ahead of craters, made by colliding against Cu and W-Cu shaped-charge jets. has been investigated in the present work. The region ahead of the crater impacted by the Cu shaped-charge jet reveals grain refinement implying the formation of sub-grains, while that of W-Cu one leads to martensitic transformation indicating that the region was heated up to an austenitic region which was followed by rapid cooling. The pressure of W-Cu shaped-charge jet impacting against the target when calculated is higher than that of Cu one. The microhardness of the region ahead of the crater impacted by the W-Cu shaped-charge jet is also higher than that of the Cu one. The microstructure of W-Cu slug that remains inside of the crater depicts the occurrence of the remarkable elongation of W particles during the liner collapse. The microstructural evolution of the region ahead of the crater is discussed on the basis of the pressure dependency of the ferrite/austenite transformation in the steel.
Locally damaged structures caused by earthquake or extraordinary external forces have been required to rapidly be dismantled because of its possibility of additional collapses. Particularly, steel frame structures were demolished by the shaped charge blasting method. Recently a research suggested a shape charge blasting technique which uses bent-shaped charge holder of copper plate and emulsion explosive charge to cut thick steel plates. This study simulated the cutting performance of the bent-shaped charge holder with considering types of explosives, thickness of copper liner and stand-off distances using LS-DYNA software. The shape charge blasting test of a 25mm thickness steel plate were used to calibrate the input parameters of the numerical models. The penetration depth and penetration width were analysed with different types of explosives, thickness of copper liner and stand-off distances.

Because of the various excellent characteristics of cast basalt materials. such as, anti-corrosion, anti-wearing, good hardness. high chemical stability, of which steel may not possess, the steel-basalt composite pipes are used in severe environments for compensating the defects of steel. However. without sufficient mechanical investigation prior to application. the basalt liners in steel-basalt composite pipes may be cracked and broken or the basalt liners are omitted from steel pipes in applications. In these cases, the merits of basalt materials may disappear and the basalt liners may not play their good roles as expected. Therefore, it is required that mechanical behavior of steel-basalt composite pipes and surrounding environments be fully examined before installation. The limit of bending moment with which steel-basalt composite pipe may safely endure is calculated and the limit curvature of the composite pipe in the safe range is presented in this paper. The temperature distributions and the thermal stresses are also computed and the limit difference of temperatures between inner and outer side of composite pipe is given together.
The Purpose of this study was to investigate material differences in stress transmission among various artificial teeth and denture base materials. For this study, a two-dimensional finite element model and a two-dimensional photoelastic model of a mandible with complete denture were made. A resin tooth and a porcelain tooth were used as artificial teeth, and a resin base, a metal lined base, and a soft-liner lined base were used as denture bases. An occlusal load was applied and principal stresses generated in the supporting tissues were compared. To test the impact stress transmission, strain gauge attached to the denture base specimens made of the different materials were made in thick and thin groups. Voltage outputs from hitting the specimen with a steel ball were compared. The results were as follows : 1. In FEM, increasing the mucosal thickness reduced the maximum principal stresses in the supporting tissues, but altering the tooth materials and the base materials induced no difference in the stresses. 2. In photoelastic model study, no difference in fringe order among the specimens were observed, but the thick mucosa group and the soft-liner lined group revealed a more uniform distribution of the load. 3. In strain measuring, the impact force transmission was highest in the soft-liner lined group, and was the lowest in the metal lined group(p<0.01). 4. In the thin group using the resin base, the porcelain tooth showed higher impact stress transmission than the resin tooth(p<0.01), but no difference was observed between them in the thick group. In the soft-liner lined group, the porcelain tooth showed higher impact stress transmission than the resin tooth(p<0.01), but no difference was observed between them in the metal lined group. 5. The thick group showed lower impact stress transmission than the thin group(p<0.01).
[ $9\%$ ] nickel steel LNG storage tank have double containments that can store cryogenic LNG independently. Inner tank material is used as $9\%$ nickel steel and outer tank is constructed by concrete. Comer protection which is installed on inner surface of concrete corner is consist of $9\%$ nickel steel liner and form glass insulator that make reduce tension at corner when LNG is leaked from inner tank. It is very difficult to design corner protection because expansion and contraction of liner make stress state complex. Corner protections of operating tank in KOGAS are designed by Japanese engineering company such as TKK, KHI and England company of WHESSOE. This paper is mainly focused on the integrity comparison of them according to requirements of Appendix 4 in ASME Section VIII Div. 2 by using FEM.
In this work, the thermal properties of epoxy coating system on the liner plate in the containment structure of nuclear power plants had been examined by irradiation and design basis accident (DBA) conditions. The effect of immersion in hot water on adhesion strength of the coating system had been also studied. The glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and thermal stability of ET-5290/carbon steel A 32 epoxy coating systems were measured by DSC and TGA analyses, respectively. Contact angle measurements were used to determine the effect of immersion on the surface energetics of epoxy coating system, with a viewpoint of surface free energy. Adhesion tests were also executed to evaluate the adhesion strength at interfaces between carbon steel plate and epoxy resins. As a result, it was found that the irradiation led to an improvement of internal crosslinked structure in cured epoxy systems, resulting in significantly increasing the thermal stability, as well as the $T_g$. Also, the immersion in hot water made a role in the post-curing of epoxy resins and increased the mechanical interlocking of the network system, resulting in increasing the adhesion strength of the epoxy coating system.
