Impact tests on high-strength membrane materials under biaxial loads were experimentally conducted in order to evaluate influence of biaxial loads on impact fracture of the membrane materials for the inflated applications. Cruciform specimens of the membrane materials were fabricated for applying biaxial loadings during the impact test. A steel ball was shot using a compressed nitrogen gas gun, and struck the membrane specimen. Impact tests on uniaxial strip specimens were also conducted to obtain the effect of specimen configuration and boundary condition on the impact fracture. The results of the measured crack length and the ultra-high speed photographs indicate the impact fracture properties of the membrane fabrics under biaxial loadings. Crack length due to the impact increased with applied tensile load, and the impact damages of the cruciform membrane materials under biaxial loadings were smaller than those of under uniaxial loadings. Impact fracture of the strip specimen was more severe than that of the cruciform specimen due to the difference of boundary conditions.
CFRP strips are widely used nowadays for repair/strengthening or capacity increase purposes. Sharp bending at the ends of the CFRP strips is frequently encountered at these applications. In this study, Reinforced Concrete (RC) beam specimens that were produced with 10 MPa compression strength concrete were strengthened by using bonded CFRP strips with end anchorages to tension region. The parameters that were investigated in this study are the width of the strip, the number of applied fan anchorages and whether additional layer of CFRP patch is used or not at the strip ends. Specimens were strengthened with 100 mm wide CFRP strips with one or two anchorages at the ends. In addition CFRP patch with two and three anchorages at the ends were tested for investigating the effect of the patches. Specimens that were strengthened with three anchorages at the ends with patches were repeated with 60 and 80 mm wide CFRP strips. The most successful result was obtained from the specimen that was strengthened with 80 mm wide CFRP strips with 3 end anchorages and patches among the others at the experimental program. The numbers of anchorages that were applied to ends of CFRP strips were more effective than the width of the CFRP strips onto strength and stiffness of the specimens. Due to limited space at the ends of the strips at most three anchorages could be applied.
Sink roll has been used in molten 55%Al-Zn alloy bath of continuous galvanizing line for sinking and stabilizing working steel strip in molten metal bath. In the process, the sink roll body inevitably build up dross compounds and pitting on the sink roll surface during 55%Al-Zn alloy coated strip production, and the life time of the sink roll is shorten by build up dross compounds and pitting. The present study examined the application of thermally sprayed ceramic coatings method on sink roll body for improving erosion resistance at molten 55% Al-Zn pool. In this experiment, the stainless steels such as STS 316L and STS 430F were used as the substrate materials. The CoNiCr and WE-Co powder were selected as bond coating materials. Moreover $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-SiO_2 and ZrO_2-SiO_2$ powders selected as the top coating materials. Appearances of the specimens before and after dipping to molten 55%Al-Zn pool were compared and analyzed. As a result of this study, STS430F of substrate, WC-Co of bond spray coatings, $ZrO_2-SiO_2$ power of top spray coatings is the best quality in erosion resistance test at molten 55%Al-Zn pool

Investigations of the fatigue damage of roughing mill roll and experimentally. By the computer simulation for analysing the stresses on the roll surface and experimental hot rolling, the following results were drawn : The crakcs observed on the roll surface were initiated thermally in the initial stage of the rolling and propagated by repeated thermal and bending stresses. The size of the roll surface cracks smaller than 4.87mm could avoid the occurrence of tiny scab, surface defect of hot steel strip. Since the size of surface cracks observed on the roughing mill roll was very small, the fatigue damage of roll surface was found not to be the major factor for the formation of the scab.
The U-draw bending operation is known as a representative test method for springback evaluation of sheet metals since the sheet in U-draw bending operation undergoes stretching, bending and unbending deformations occurred at the stamping process. In this study, a simplified approach was proposed for predicting springback and side-wall curls of tailor-welded blank in U-draw bending operations, using moment-curvature relationships derived for sheets undergoing stretching, bending and unbending deformation. Two different welded strips were adopted to compare the effects of weld-line locations on the springback. One (type A) was welded along the centerline of the strip-width and the other (type B) was welded along the centerline of the strip-length. To investigate the effect of different thickness combination on the springback, the tailor-welded strips were joined by the laser welding process and consisted of three types of thickness combinations of sheets, SCP1 0.8t * SCP1 1.2t, SCP1 0.8t * SCP1 1.6t and SCP1 0.8t * TRIP 1.0t. Some calculated results by the simplified formula were compared with experimental results.
The aim of the current study was to predict the plastic deformation behavior of a heated slab during hot rough rolling. FE-simulations were performed to investigate the metal flow and to locate the position of surface material from the slab through the rough rolling and onto the strip, using a material point tracking technique. In addition, experimental hot rolling trials were conducted where artificial defects were impressed onto a heated slab in order to validate the FE-simulation results. The simulated results show the same tendency of deformation behavior as the experimental measurements. The movement of slab defects from the side surface towards the strip center is directly linked to the extent of lateral spread during the rolling.
Many methods are developed for strengthening of reinforced concrete structural members against the effects of shear. One of the commonly used methods in recent years is turned out to be bonding of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP). Impact loading is one of the important external effects on the reinforced concrete structural members during service period among the others. The determination of magnitude, the excitation time, deformations and stress due to impact loadings are complicated and rarely known. In recent year impact behavior of reinforced concrete members have been researched with experimental studies by using drop-weight method and numerical simulations are done by using finite element method. However the studies on the strengthening of structural members against impact loading are very seldom in the literature. For this reason, in this study impact behavior of shear deficient reinforced concrete beams that are strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) strips are investigated experimentally. Compressive strength of concrete, CFRP strips spacing and impact velocities are taken as the variables in this experimental study. The acceleration due to impact loading is measured from the specimens, while velocities and displacements are calculated from these measured accelerations. RC beams are modeled with ANSYS software. Experimental result and simulations result are compared. Experimental result showed that impact behaviors of shear deficient RC beams are positively affected from the strengthening with CFRP strip. The decrease in the spacing of CFRP strips reduced the acceleration, velocity and displacement values measured from the test specimens.

The results of an experimental investigation are presented in this paper for retrofitting of shear damaged reinforced concrete beams by using U shaped CFRP strips. The experimental program is consisted of seven shear deficient T cross sectioned 1/2 scale simply supported beam specimens. One beam was used as reference specimen, and the remaining six specimens were tested in two stages. At the first stage, specimens were shear damaged severely, and then were retrofitted by using CFRP strips with or without fan type anchorages. Finally, retrofitted beams were tested up to failure. Three different CFRP strip spacing were used such as 125 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm. The effect of anchorages on shear strength and behavior of the retrofitted specimens is investigated. CFRP strips without anchorages improved the shear strength, but no flexural failure mode was observed. Specimens showed brittle shear failure due to peeling of CFRP strip from RC beam surface. Shear damaged specimens retrofitted with anchoraged CFRP strips showed improved shear strength and ductile flexural failure. Maximum strains at anchoraged strips were approximately 68% larger than that of strips without anchorages.

This paper presents the effects of cryogenic temperature on the wear behavior of 22MnB5 blank under cold stamping. After immersing the blank in liquid nitrogen (LN2) for 10 min, a strip drawing test was performed within 10 s. The hardness was measured using the Rockwell hardness test, which increased from 165 HV at 20℃ to 192 HV at cryogenic temperature. The strip drawing test with 22MnB5 blank and SKD61 tool steel shows that for the different wear mechanisms on the tool surface with respect to temperature; adhesive wear is dominant at 20℃, but abrasive wear is the main mechanism at cryogenic temperature. As the friction test is repeated, sticking gradually increases on the tool surface at 20℃, whereas the scratch increases at cryogenic temperature. For the friction behavior, the friction coefficient rapidly increases when adhesive wear occurs, and it occurs more frequently at 20℃. The results for nanoindentation near the worn blank surface indicate a difference of 1.3 GPa at 20℃ and 0.8 GPa at cryogenic temperature compared to the existing hardness, indicating increased deformation by friction at 20℃. This occurs because thermally activated energy available to move the dislocation decreases with decreasing temperature.
The membrane of the LNG carriers consists of thin strips of INVAR(Fe-36%Ni) steel plates, and the junction between INVAR strips is fabricated by welding. Thousands of the raised edge joints, regularly spaced, are located around all the side of the tank corner near the transverse bulkhead, and TIG welding is manually made on the top of the raised edges. Since the thickness of all the laminated edge plies is extremely thin and the weld position is under a bad accessibility, highly skilled workers are required to perform welding relatively for a long welding time. An alternative scheme for the corner membrane fabrication is proposed in the study to improve the installation workability and thus productivity. The scheme replaces the welded edges with the preformed corrugation ones. A panel strip with regularly-spaced corrugations is installed at the corner instead of the individual flat strip of which edge is vertically raised to be welded with the adjacent strip. In the study, a series of the evaluation on the corrugated edge members was performed to assess the applicability to the real LNG carrier fabrication. Opening displacement at the raised edge was experimentally examined. Elastic stiffness regressed from the displacement was nearly same in both edge types. Edge displacement and local stresses were calculated under hydrostatic pressure and temperature change due to liquefied cargo. Fatigue test was performed on both corrugated and welded edge specimens consisting of two or five plies of invar strips. Fatigue strength of the corrugated specimens was not less than that of the welded specimens.
