  • This study investigated Kevlar fabric impregnated with shear thickening fluid (STF). The STF performance was assessed by comparing bullet-proof characteristics of STF impregnated and pure Kevlar material. The analysis employed a circular steel ball as the nominal warhead, and bulletproof characteristics were evaluated by the warhead residual velocity. Various initial velocity conditions were employed, with different bulletproof characteristics apparent for each velocity region. The results of this study provide effective data for future bulletproof material design and application.

  • The production of recycling aggregate is used to process in the crushing that recycling aggregate isn't perfect the concrete aggregate in Korea. This study is examine to the properties of recycling aggregate used method of trituration. Test item is the fineness, density and percent of absorptance, solid volume percentage of aggregate. The result is that first, the method of trituration is excellent to increase the time of trituration and steel ball but decrease washing water. Second, method of trituration is improve to the properties of recycling aggregate but aggregate of production is irregularity. And method of trituration have to study of the many test items.

  • Thicknesses of the hase concrete blocks supportmg large machmes were estimated by analyzing the res- 0 ¬nance modes of mechanical Vibrations The vibration was produced by the mechanical impact with steel ball drop and detected by a wideband comcal piezoelectric transducei. The detected signals were analyzed by FFT and thicknesses of specimen were determined by the resonant frequency of vibratIon. For the layered concrete block, the estimated thickness is dependent on the acoustic reflective index at the boundary between layers. The estimated thickness up to 100em were in goo:l agreement with the real value. In additlOn. this technique could be applicable to the estimation of the bondmg status of the layered structures.

  • In this paper, when CF/PEEK laminates for high efficiency space structure are subjected to FOD(Foreign Object Damage), the effects of temperature change on the impact damages(interlaminar separation and transverse crack) of CF/PEEK laminates and the relationship between residual lift and impact damages are experimentally investigated. Composite laminates used in this experiment are CF/PEEK orthotropic laminated plates, which have two-interlaces [$0^{\circ}_4/90^{\circ}_8/0^{\circ}_4$]. A steel ball launched by the air gun collides against CF/PEEK laminates to generate impact damages. And then CF/PEEK specimens with impact damages are observed by a scanning acoustic microscope under room and high temperatures. In this experimental results, various relations are experimentally observed including the delamination area vs. temperature change, the bending strength vs. impact energy and the residual bending strength vs. impact damage of CF/PEEK laminates.

  • LCD panels are used widely in all sorts of devices. Since glass is the main material used to make the panels, scratch resistance is an important issue in acquiring high quality LCD panels. In this work the wear behaviors of three types of commercially available LCD panel glasses were investigated. A pin-on-reciprocating tribotester was used to perform the wear tests using the glass specimens against a stainless steel ball. The hardness of the specimens was initially obtained. It was shown that the wear amount varied with respect to the applied load as well as the type of glass. The wear pattern of the glass specimen was also characterized using confocal microscopy. It is expected that the results of this work will aid in improving the tribological properties of LCD panel glass.

  • A new process of pulsed electric current sintering was developed. It combines compaction with activated sintering effectively and can manufacture bulky nano-crystalline materials very quickly. A nano-structured steel is obtained with high relative density and hardness by this process. The average grain size of iron matrix is 58nm and the carbide particulate size is less than 100 nm. The densification temperature of ball-milled powders is approximately $200^{\circ}C$ lower than that of blended powders. When the sintering temperature increases, the density of as-sintered specimen increases but the hardness of as-sintered specimen first increases and then decreases.

  • In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to find the dimensions of impact stresses with using the dimensions of impact loading parameter regardless of mass of impactor, velocity of impactor, and plate thickness. In analytical method of Impulsive stresses, the three-dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity using rectangular coordinates and the potential theory of displacement are utilized, and when the measurement of Impact loading is difficult especially for a steel ball colliding on an infinite plate, the impact loading can be obtained by using the classical plate theory and Hertz’s contact theory. And in the numerical analysis, the fast Fourier transform (F. F. T.) algorithm and the numerical inverse Laplace transformation are used because the analysis of impact loading Is difficult to obtain solutions by using the thress-dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity.

  • An experimental study was performed to discover the tribological behaviors of pure silver coated 52100 bearing steel. Pure silver coatings ranging from 80 nm to several micrometers were produced by a thermal evaporation coating method. Experiments using a thrust ball bearing-typed rolling test-rig were performed for the investigations of the influence of coating thickness on the tribological rolling behavior. The existence of optimum film thickness which revealed minimum rolling resistance was discovered. A careful analysis on the contact surfaces for the optimum film thickness has been performed. The contact patches produced by the transferred silver films played an important role for the rolling resistance to keep low.

  • Recently, there are an increasing needs for high speed rotating spindle which is an important mechanical ele- ment for a high efficiency machine tool in order to shorten machining time and cut production costs. The heat gen- eration is the most important problem in the motor integrated spindle. In this study, the effects of temperature distribution and thermal behavior according to the oil-air lubrication and cooling conditions are investigate theo- retically and experimentally on the motor-integrated spindle under unloading condition. The experimental spin- dle system is composed with the angular contact steel ball bearings, oil-air lubrication, air or oil jacket cooling system. To analyze the thermal behavior and cooling characteristics for the motor integrated spindle, the analysis using the finite element method is carried out. The analytical results are compared with the experimental results.

  • This study is to investigate experimentally relationships between the impact energy and moisture absorption characteristies vs.the residual bending strength with the variation of stacking seqences. When Carbon-fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP) impact-induced laminates are subjected to the high temperatures and hygrothermal effects, it is found that what CFRP laminates are impacted by a steel ball (5 mm in diametar) ; thus, the generated delamination is observed by the ultrasonic microscope. And the residual bending strength is evaluated by a three-point bending test. Also, a thermostat is used in test with the unimpacted and impacted specimens for the moisture experimentaiton. The percision electro lever scles is used to measure the moisture content(1/10, 000g).
