A combined hydrogen generator of plasma and catalytic reformer was developed, and was applied to stabilize unstable flame of 200,000 Kcal/hr LPG combustor. The role of the plasma reformer was to generate hydrogen in a short period and to heat-up the catalytic reformer during the start-up time. After the start-up period, the catalytic reformer generates hydrogen through steam reforming with oxygen (SRO) reactions. The maximum capacity of the hydrogen generator was enough 100 lpm to stabilize the flame of the present combustor. In order to reduce NOx and CO emissions simultaneously, 1) FGR (Flue Gas Recirculation) technique has been adopted and 2) the hydrogen was added into the fuel supplied to the combustor. Test results showed that the addition of 25% hydrogen and 30% FGR rate lead to simultaneous decrease of CO and NOx emissions. The technique developed in the present study showed good potential to replace $NH_3$ SCR technique, especially in the small-scale combustor applications.

Noncatalytic partial oxidation of methane for producing synthesis gas was studied in a lab-scale experimental apparatus. Partial oxidation developed for high-temperature, fuel-rich combustion and it is exothermic process. but Steam reforming and Caron reforming is highly endothermic process to need much energy. Noncatalytic partial oxidation of methane is affected by temperature and equivalent ratio, so we studied effect about composition of synthesis gas at lab scale reactor. We used electronic heater to control the temperature of reactor. The quality of synthesis gas is improved and reduced heat value to require at Noncatalytic partial oxidation because the reacting temperature is lower at oxy condition.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the optimal condition of the Syngas production by reforming of fuel using plasmatron. Plasma was generated by air and arc discharge. The effects of applied steam, $CO_2$ or Ni-catalyst on fuel conversion, as well as hydrogen yield and $H_2$/CO ratio were studied. When the variations of $O_2$/fuel ratio, $H_2O$/fuel flow ratio and $CO_2$/fuel flow ratio were $0.94{\sim}1.48$, $4.3{\sim}10$ and $0.8{\sim}3.05$, respectively. Under the condition mentioned above, result of $H_2O$/fuel flow ratio was maximum $H_2$ concentration, or $28.2{\sim}31.6%$, and result of $H_2O$/fuel flow ratio with catalyst was minimum CO concentration or $6.6{\sim}7.1%$. and $H_2$/CO ratio were $3.89{\sim}4.86$.

Currently, hydrogen has been produced by Steam Reforming or partial oxidation reforming processes mainly from oil, coal, and natural gas and results in the production of $CO_2$. However, these are influenced greatly on the green house effect of the earth. so it is important to find the new way to produce hydrogen utilizing water without producing any environmentally harmful by-products. In our research, we use microwave water plasma and photocatalyst to improve dissociation rate of water. At low pressure plasma, electron have high energy but density is low, so temperature of reactor is low. This may cause of recombination in the generated hydrogen and oxygen from splitting water. If it want to high dissociation rate of water, it is necessary to control of recombination of the hydrogen and oxygen using photocatalyst. We utilize the photocatalytic material($TiO_2$, ZnO) coated plasma reactor to use UV in the plasma. The quantity of hydrogen generated was measured by a Residual Gas Analyzer.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the optimal condition for the hydrogen-rich gas production and the CO removal by reforming of gliding arc plasma reforming system using biogas. The parametric screening studies were carried out according to changes of steam feed amount, catalyst bed temperature in water gas reactor and catalyst bed temperature, input air flow rate in preferential oxidation reactor. The standard condition is as follows. The steam/carbon ratio, catalyst bed temperature, total gas flow rate, input electric power and biogas composition rate ($CH_4$ : $CO_2$) were fixed 3, $700^{\circ}C$, 16 L/min, 2.4 kW and 6 : 4, respectively. The results are as follow, HTS optimum operating conditions were S/C ratio of 3 and reactor temperature of $500^{\circ}C$. LTS were S/C ratio of 2.9 and temperature of $300^{\circ}C$. Also, PROX I optimum conditions were input air flow rate of 300 mL/min and reactor temperature of $190^{\circ}C$. PROX II were 200 mL/min and $190^{\circ}C$ respectively. After having passed through each reactor, the results were as follows: 55% of $H_{2}$ yield, 0% of CO selectivity, 99% of $CH_4$ conversion rate, 27% of $CO_2$ conversion rate, respectively.

Various additives were added in small amounts on Ni/YSZ anode of SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) in order to improve reactivity and to inhibit deactivation due to coke deposition during methane reforming using a low mole ratio steam ($H_2O/CH_4=1.5$) at $800^{\circ}C$. Ni/YSZ catalysts added with various perovskites did not show any improvement but exhibited a gradual decrease in the methane conversion. K-doped Ni/YSZ showed a steady increase and maintenance of the conversion up to 42 hours, after which there was an abrupt deactivation of catalyst owing to potassium loss by volatilization. Addition of 5% of $K_2Ti_2O_5$ on Ni/YSZ showed a stable maintenance of the conversion without K loss, and was able to prevent coke formation during a long time operation. Deactivation of catalyst during the reaction was mainly caused by the accumulation of graphidic carbon on the catalyst surface.

In this study, CFD model for a Heat Exchange Steam Reformer (HESR) used for a 10kW SOFC system is developed for the design optimization of the HESR. The model is used to explore the effect of design parameters on the performance of the HESR. In the HESR, heat is delivered from the hot gas channel to the fuel channel to supply the heat required for the fuel reforming. In the fuel channel where the fuel is reformed, thermo-fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and chemical reaction are considered to predict the performance of the reformer. The model is validated with experimental data within 2~3% error. The validated model is used for the parametric study of the HESR design. Channel length, channel diameter, and flow direction are selected as the design parameters. The effects of the HESR design parameters on the outlet temperature, outlet H2 mole fraction, and pressure drop across the reformer are presented using the model.
Methanol synthesized from renewable hydrogen and captured CO2 has recently attracted great interest as a sustainable energy carrier for large-scale renewable energy storage. In this study, molten carbonate fuel cell's performance was investigated with the direct conversion of methanol into syngas inside the anode chamber of the cell. The internal reforming of methanol may significantly improve system efficiency since the heat generated from the electrochemical reaction can be used directly for the endothermic reforming reaction. The porous Ni-10 wt%Cr anode was sufficient for the methanol steam reforming reaction under the fuel cell operating condition. The direct supply of methanol into the anode chamber resulted in somewhat lower cell performance, especially at high current density. Recycling of the product gas into the anode gas inlet significantly improved the cell performance. The analysis based on material balance revealed that, with increasing current density and gas recycling ratio, the methanol steam reforming reaction rate likewise increased. A methanol conversion more significant than 90% was achieved with gas recycling. The results showed the feasibility of electricity and syngas co-production using the molten carbonate fuel cell. Further research is needed to optimize the fuel cell operating conditions for simultaneous production of electricity and syngas, considering both material and energy balances in the fuel cell.
