  • A direct torque control(DTC) based sensorless speed control system which employs a new closed loop flux observer is proposed. The flux observer is an adaptive gain scheduling observer where motor speed is used as the scheduling variable. Adaptive nature comes from the fact that the estimates of stator resistance and speed are included as observer parameters. Simulation results show that the proposed flux observer gives better control and estimation results than conventional flux estimator specially in low speed region.

  • This paper describes a new approach to estimating permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) speed and position from measured terminal voltages and currents for speed-sensorless vector control. The proposed system is based on observing the instantaneous reactive power of the motor. The described technique is very simple and robust to variations of motor parameters. The new approach is not dependent upon the value of the stator resistance. Also, MRAS schemes are chosen for determining the adaptive law for the speed and the position estimator. The effectiveness is verified by simulation.

  • This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on the sliding mode observer. Since the parameter of the dynamic equation such as machine inertia or viscosity friction coefficient are not well known and these values can be easily changed generally during normal operation, there are many restrictions in the actual implementation. The proposed adaptive sliding mode observer applies adaptive scheme so that observer may overcome the problem caused by using the dynamic equation. Furthermore, using the Lyapunov Function, the adaptive sliding mode observer can estimate rotor speed as well as stator resistance. The feasibility of the Proposed observer is verified cia the experiments.

  • In this study, the stator form-winding sample coils based on silicone resin and polyimide were made for fault prediction and reliability estimation on the C-Class(200$\^{C}$ ) insulation system of traction motors. The complex accelerative degradation was periodically performed during 10 cycles, which was composed of thermal stress, fast rising surge voltage, vibration, water immersion and overvoltage applying. After aging of 10 cycles, the condition diagnosis test such as insulation resistance '||'&'||' polarization index, capacitance '||'&'||' dielectric loss and partial discharge properties were investigated in the temperature range of 20 ∼ 160$\^{C}$. Relationship among condition diagnosis tests was analyzed to find a dominative degradation factor and an insulation state at end-life point.

  • In this paper, a novel dead time compensation method is presented which produces inverter output voltages equal to reference voltages. An experimental result is also presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method. It shows that the compensation of the dead time is possible up to a sub-microsecond range. And the reference voltage can be used as a feedback value, which is essential for sensorless vector control and flux estimation. The method is based on space vector PWM strategy and can be carried out automatically by an inverter controller for initial set-up without any extra hardware.

  • The linearized models on per for mance dynamics of the pulse motor have been already proposed by many others. These models exhibit certain advantages of their own because of their simple formulation, but in many cases the models are proved to be inadequate for further accurate analysis of the motor dynamics, owing to impractical and rather rough assumptions in the derivation. In this study a dynamic state transition model is induced, using the equivalent circuit obtained from the operating principle of the variable reluctance pulse motor which turns out to be nonlinear equation. This nonlinear dynamic state equation is numerically analysed by the use of UNIVAC System/3(OS/3) digital computer at hand. In the course of the dynamic analysis of the performance characteristics of a testing motor, dependance of the inertia of rotor and load, the coefficient of viscous friction between rotor and housing, and the winding resistance of the stator is discussed and a comparative study of the machine constants is carried on as related to the design problem of the motor.

  • This test was performed to assess the insulation deterioration condition of the stator winding of 3.3kV class induction motors which have been in service for 15 years after being installed in 1988. The insulation diagnostic tests include resistance, polarization index(P.I). dissipation factor(${\Delta}tan{\delta}$) and maximum partial discharges(Qmax). The results of diagnostic tests were compared to the visual inspection in overhaul.

  • This paper deals with design of Synchronous Reluctance Motor with conventional laminated rotor for driving an air conditional compressor in a vehicle. To design both stator and rotor, design parameters, such as laminated axial length, rotor diameter, resistance and inductance are considered. The design variables are selected to get the highest power by analyzing the characteristics. The current angle in which torque is maximum is accomplished by finite element method(FEM).

  • This paper proposes a new speed and flux estimation method which has the robustness against the variation of the electrical parameters of the motor and the superiority in the dynamic characteristics compared with the conventional sensorless schemes. In the proposed method, the stator currents and the rotor fluxes are observed on the stationary reference frame using the sliding mode concept. And the rotor speed is estimated using the current estimation errors and the observed rotor fluxes based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Also a design method of the observer gain is proposed to minimize the effect of the speed estimation error on the rotor flux observation. The experimental results verified that the proposed method shows more robust and improved performances than the previous estimation method under the variations of motor resistance and inductance.

  • Vector control schemes are used in inverter-fed induction motor drives to obtain high performance. Crucial to the success of the vector control scheme is the knowledge of the instantaneous position of the rotor flux. However, the position of the rotor flux change with temperature and magnetic saturation of the motor. This variation cause deterioration of both steady state and dynamic operation of the motor drives. Performance degradation is in the form of input-output torque nonlinearity and saturation of the motor. Analytic expressions are derived to evaluate the effects due to parameter sensitivity. Also, dynamic response is shown by speed command with the variation of stator and rotor resistance.
