  • Adaptive cluster sampling design is known as a sampling method for rare clustered population. Three modified adaptive cluster sampling designs are proposed. The adjusted Hansen-Hurwitz estimator and the Horvitz-Thompson estimator are considered. Efficiency issue of the proposed sampling designs is discussed in a Monte-Carlo simulation study.

  • Distribution-free estimation methods are proposed for slope, $\beta$ in the simple linear regression model. In this paper, we suggest the point estimators using the sequential slope based on sign test and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Also confidence intervals are presented for each estimation methods. Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to compare the efficiency of these methods with least square method and Theil´s method. Some properties for the proposed methods are discussed.

  • We introduce a high breakdown point estimator referred to as data partitioning robust regression estimator (DPR). Since the DPR is obtained by partitioning observations into a finite number of subsets, it has no computational problem unlike the previous robust regression estimators. Empirical and extensive simulation studies show that the DPR is superior to the previous robust estimators. This is much so in large samples.

  • Shewhart X-chart, which is most widely used in practice, is shown to be inappropriate for the cases where the process distribution is one-sided asymmetrical, and thus some nonparametric Shewhart type charts are developed instead. These schemes may be applied usefully when there is not enough information in determining the process distribution. The average run lengths are obtained to compare the efficiency of control charts for various shifts of the location parameter and for some typical one-sided asymmetrical distributions.

  • This paper addresses issues of robustness in Bayesian optimal design. We may have difficulty applying Bayesian optimal design principles because of the uncertainty of prior distribution. When there are several plausible prior distributions and the efficiency of a design depends on the unknown prior distribution, robustness with respect to misspecification of prior distribution is required. We suggest a new optimal design criterion which has relatively high efficiencies across the class of plausible prior distributions. The criterion is applied to the problem of estimating the turning point of a quadratic regression, and both analytic and numerical results are shown to demonstrate its robustness.

  • The use of pooled standard deviation can reduce the efficiency loss in optimum allocation when strata standard deviations are estimated and several of them are equal. Also shown is that the pooled standard deviation is useful in optimum allocation under a multivariate setting. In addition to theoretical development, we provide the result of simulation study to support the theory.

  • This study reviews several well-known control charts for the location parameter with a discussion of the relationship between the maintenance of the control chart and a series of hypotheses testing. As a by-product, we then propose a new median control chart with the sign test statistic. We also modify the nonparametric control charts to easily understand the relation. Then we illustrate the construction of several median control charts with the industrial data and compare the efficiency among several control charts. Finally, we discuss some interesting features for the median control charts as concluding remarks.

  • In this paper, a method based on group divisible designs is presented for constructing some partial diallel crosses. We discuss in detail a particular inbred line, i.e., p lines divided into two groups with p$_1$ lines and p$_2$ lines. These designs are obtained by regarding the number of lines as treatments. In specially we study and compare the efficiency factors of the constructed partial diallel crosses with or without repeated blocks.

  • To test the equality of survival distributions in the presence of arbitrary right censorship, the choice of weights which are functions of the number of individuals at risk at the time of each death is very important in increasing the power of the test. In this paper a weight by probit scale is derived and the efficiencies relative to the other weight's are also investigated.

  • When the disturbances in the linear repression medel are generated by a seasonal autoregressive scheme the Cochrane Orcutt transformation estimator (COTE) is a well known alternative to Generalized Least Squares estimator (GLSE). In this paper it is analyzed in which situation the Ordinary Least Squares estimator (OLSE) is always better than COTE for positive autocorrelation in terms of efficiency which is here defined as the ratio of the total variances.
