  • Various organic- and bio-conjugated nanoparticles have been studied extensively for biological applications in medical diagnoses and drug delivery systems. Gold nanoparticles (AuNP) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) are known biocompatible materials to be used in vivo and are becoming increasingly important in biomedical applications. In this work, we investigated the stability of PEG-conjugated AuNPs, dialysis and centrifuge effects after synthesis or pegylation of AuNPs as a function of elapsed time by using ToF-SIMS imaging technique along with dynamic light scattering (DLS), UV-visible absorption spectroscopic and statistical analyses. Roughly 15-nm-sized AuNPs were synthesized in a citrate-conjugated form, and then converted into the thiol-terminated PEG (O-[2-(3-Mercaptopropionylamino)ethyl]-O'-methylpolyethyleneglycol, M.W.=5 kDa) form. Based on our data, we will show that ToF-SIMS imaging analysis along with DLS, UV-visible absorption and statistical analyses would be a useful method to evaluate stability of PEG-conjugated AuNPs in various environmental conditions.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to compare health habit and self-rated health status among early adulthood women in 1995, 2001, and 2007. Also, it was performed to determine correlations between health habits and self-rated health status. Methods: This research was investigated to identify a transition of health habits and self-rated health status. Participants who agreed to participate in the study were 18~25years old college women. Data was collected from 380 college students in 1995, 196 college students 2001, and 411 college students in 2007. Health habit assessment questionnaire was developed by authors. The reliability of the questionnaire were Cronbach $\alpha$=.87. Cronbach $\alpha$=.85, Cronbach $\alpha$=.90. The visual analogue scale which had 100 self-rating scores was used. All statistical analyses were used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Windows, Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, Levene's test, repeated measure ANOVA, Brown-Forsythe test, Turkey test, Games-Howell test, and Pearson correlation coefficient test. Results: Health habit level, and self-rated heath status were significantly increased over time after 1995. Health habits was correlated with self-rated health status. Conclusion: Health habits and self-rated health status were influenced by health environments. Health practitioner can use perceived health status to access health habits.

  • The goal of this study is an exploratory statistical analysis of the university and college library statistics in the Academic Information Statistics System(rinfo.kr) governed of Korean Education and Research Information Service(KERIS) with performance measures based on sustainability. For the goal, we adopt a preprocessing method to develop change-rate variables by considering preceding predictive elements and succeeding performance elements, and to control external factors, such as size and socioeconomic factors. Then we execute a series of factor analyses and multiple linear regression analyses. 13 factors are extracted by the factor analyses and some sets of significant variables affecting the performance measures are identified through the regression analyses. Based on the results, we discuss the problem of out-lier and low correlation between variables. A suggestion for developing new variables is also discussed based on low effect sizes of the developed regression models. We hope that this study contributes to diffuse discussions on statistics system, evaluation, and further library management based on sustainability.

  • The study of water environment system in Changnyeong-Haman weir section using a statistical analysis has been conducted. Statistical analyses used in this study were the correlation analysis, the principal components, and the factor analysis. The purpose of the study is to establish better understanding of relationships between water quality factors in the Changnyeong-Haman weir section which can provide useful information to manage Nakdong river. According to correlation analyses on COD and TOC, it revealed that the value of correlation coefficient was 0.844. Furthermore, the results from the principal component analysis categorized the water quality factors into three factor groups, the first principal factor group included COD, TOC, BOD, pH, water temperature (WT). And, it was observed that the concentration of cyanobacteria in the water body decreased, while the concentrations of the diatoms and the green algae increased after the events of rainfall.

  • Objectives: The study investigated the difficulties experienced by endodontics researchers around the world in conducting studies and writing papers. Materials and Methods: A survey consisting of 18 questions on the difficulties experienced by endodontics researchers in performing studies and writing papers was e-mailed to academics in the field of endodontics working at 202 universities. The independent risk factors were analyzed using binary logistic regression at a significance level of 0.05. Results: A total of 581 individuals (10.7%) agreed to participate in the study. Almost half the participants (48.2%) reported that they had received some type of training in conducting studies and writing papers. In response to the question, "Do you get help from a statistician to perform the statistical analyses of your studies?," 77.1% answered "yes." Around 40% of the participants stated that the need to obtain ethical approval negatively affected their desire to conduct studies. The participants' regions had no effect on the reported difficulties associated with writing papers in English or conducting statistical analyses (p > 0.05). Most participants (81.8%) reported difficulties in writing the Discussion section, regardless of their region, academic degrees, or years of experience. Conclusions: The participants stated they experienced difficulties in many areas, such as conducting statistical analyses, finding new ideas, and writing in English. Engaging in a detailed examination of ethics committee rules, expanding biostatistics education, increasing the number of institutions providing research funding, and increasing the number of endodontics journals can increase the enthusiasm of endodontics researchers to publish papers.

  • This paper deals with an empirical study to statistically analyse various business performance on research and development(R&D) as an independent variables. The major results of statistical analyses have come up with the followings : First, the regression analyses between the growth rate and the opportunity of education showed the positive relationship. Second, the regression analyses between the productivity and the expenses of R&D showed the positive relationship. Third, the regression analyses between the profit and the mutual cooperation showed the positive relationship.

  • This paper describes the procedures to estimate for the design thermal loads on prestressed concrete box girder bridges on th basis of the extreme analysis of the temperature data obtained from long-term thermal analyses. Long-term thermal analyses using the environmental data for three years were conducted, and the extreme distributions of th thermal loads are then determined by the tail-equivalence method, and the thermal loads corresponding to selected return period are calculated. Finally, the results are compared to the specifications suggested in a current design code for thermal loads.

  • This paper studies the computer programming of statistical methods. A few computer programs are developed for * computing the basic statistics and the coefficients of process capability for raw and grouped data * drawing the frequency table and histogram * goodness of fit testing for normality with the analyses for stratifications if necessary. A special emphasis is laid on the significant digits and rounding-off for the output. A running result appears in the Appendix for a hypothetical example.

  • In this paper we propose an estimation method for regression quantiles with left-truncated and right-censored data. The estimation procedure is based on the weight determined by the Kaplan-Meier estimate of the distribution of the response. We show how the proposed regression quantile estimators perform through analyses of Stanford heart transplant data and AIDS incubation data. We also investigate the effect of censoring on regression quantiles through simulation study.
