  • This paper presents a novel design of indoor airship having a passive wheeled mechanism and its stationary position control. This wheeled blimp can work both on the ground using wheeled vehicle part and in the air using the floating capability of the blimp part. The wheeled blimp stands on the floor keeping its balance using a caster-like passive wheel mechanism. In tele-guidance application, stationary position control is required to make the wheeled blimp naturally communicate with people in standing phase since the stationary blimp system responds sensitively to air flow even in indoor environments. To control the desired stationary position, a computed torque control method is adopted. By performing a controller design through dynamic analysis, the control characteristics of the wheeled blimp system have been found and finally the stable control system has been successfully developed. The effectiveness of the controller is verified by experiment for the real wheeled blimp system.

  • This paper describes a stationary position control of a wheeled blimp. The wheeled blimp is composed of a blimp filled with helium gas and a wheeled vehicle part. The wheeled blimp is designed to enable both flying in the air and standing on the floor. The wheeled blimp stands on the floor keeping its balance. However, it is difficult for the wheeled blimp to maintain a stationary position in standing phase since the stationary blimp system responds sensitively to air current even in indoor environments. In order to keep the stationary position restraining motion caused by an uncertain airflow, a position controller for the wheeled blimp is needed. Controller design based on dynamic m...

  • This paper describes a capacitively reading apparatus for determining the angular orientation, speed and/or direction of rotary objects such as shaft, dial hand, counter wheel and the like. The apparatus consists of sensing device and circuit accompanying with said sensing device. The sensing device is provided by arranging many stationary electrodes lying substantially on a surface of a stationary plane member and by arranging rotary electrode lying substantially on a surface of rotary objects to be monitored, in which said rotary electrode is in confronting relationship to some stationary electrodes so as to construct unique capacitors according to the angular position of rotary objects. The angular position of said rotary electrode is determined by sets of stationary electrodes which are in confronting relationship to rotary electrode. A carrier signal is generated by scanning device while scanning said stationarelectrodes, whose periods are in corresponding relationship to said stationary electrodes, respectively. The periods of carrier corresponding to the angular position of said rotary electrode is modulated by a modulation signal generated by detecting device according to said rotary electrode. This apparatus is applied to automatically monitor any kind of storage tank, as well as to automatically read the conventional utility meters such as Watthour meters, Gas meters, Water meters, etc..

  • In this study, a novel rotor position sensorless estimation method of an interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor is proposed. A square-wave pulsating voltage signal is injected in the estimated synchronous reference frame. This signal is interpreted in the stationary reference frame regardless of the estimated rotor position. Thus, assuming that the position error is nearly zero is unnecessary because the variables in the estimated synchronous reference frame are not used. The rotor position can be exactly calculated from two voltage references and three sampled current feedbacks in the stationary reference frame. The proposed method is easy to implement and helps enhance the bandwidth of the current controller. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper proposes tip position control system which uses a visual marker to determine the tip position of a robot manipulator. The main idea of this paper is to introduce visual marker for the tracking control of a robot manipulator. Existing researches utilize stationary markers to get pattern information from them. Unlike existing researches, we introduce visual markers to get the coordinates of them in addition to their pattern information. Markers need not be stationary and the extracted coordinate of markers are used as a reference trajectory for the tracking control of a robot manipulator. To build the proposed control scheme, we first obtain intrinsic parameters through camera calibration and evaluate their validity. Secondly, we present a procedure to obtain the relative coordinate of a visual marker with respect to a camera. Thirdly, we derive the equation for the kinematics of the SCORBOTER 4pc manipulator which we use for control of manipulator. Also, we provide a flow diagram of entire visual marker tracking system. The feasibility of the proposed scheme will be demonstrated through real experiments.

  • In this paper, the uniform observability and the error characteristics for stationary SDINS error are analyzed. The use of the Lyapunov transformation is proposed for transforming te conventional SDINS error model and the sufficient conditions for the uniform observability of SDINS error model are analytically derived. A complete characterization for the SDINS error characteristics during two position alignment is presented which allows us to predict the performance of two position alignment in SDINS.

  • A control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) is an electromechanical equipment that provides linear movement for the control rods to control the nuclear reactivity in a nuclear reactor. A rod position indication system (RPIS) detects the control rod's position. To enhance the measurement accuracy of the system, a magnetostrictive type sensor with capability of generating operation limiting signals would be adapted instead of a conventional RPIS for a CRDM. An RPIS was modelled for a numerical analysis with the permanent magnets at the stationary limit positions and magnetic shielding plates with a moving permanent magnet. The performance analysis of the RPIS were conducted, and the results were discussed here.

  • The rotor position of a PM synchronous motor is commonly estimated from the mathematical model for the sensorless control without rotor position sensors. For the magnet flux-based rotor position estimator in the stationary reference frame, the magnet flux estimator for estimating rotor position and speed includes the integrator. The integrator in the magnet flux estimator may accumulate the offset of the current sensors and the voltage drift. This continuous accumulation of the offset may cause the drift and overflow in the integrator, such that the estimated rotor position and speed may fail to track the real rotor position and speed. In this paper, the magnet flux estimator without integrator is proposed to avoid overflow in the integrator. The proposed rotor position and speed estimator based on magnet flux estimator are verified through simulation and experiment.

  • The gas turbine static starter rotates the stationary synchronous machine by the interaction of the rotor and the stator. The detection from the initial position of the rotor has been an important issue to drive with optimum torque. Previously, the gas turbine starter was used by attaching the encoder to the synchronous machine, but the position and velocity of the rotor have been estimated by sensor-less method until recently due to the difficulty in attaching and detaching and damage caused by the shaft voltage noise. In this paper, Rotor initial(stationary state) position estimation, forced commutation control(speed less than 10%), and natural commutation control(speed more than 10%) method using magnetic flux with integrated terminal voltage were presented and the sensor-less speed control performance was verified. As a result of making and evaluating the 29 kVA synchronous machine and the starting device, the performance of each control mode was satisfactory. Furthermore, the applied technology is expected to be used for the development of the gas turbine starter of tens of MW class and the field application.

  • This study is concentrated on the development of real-time estimation model and vision control method as well as the experimental test. The proposed method permits a kind of adaptability not otherwise available in that the relationship between the camera-space location of manipulable visual cues and the vector of manipulator joint coordinates is estimate in real time. This is done based on a estimation model ta\hat generalizes known manipulator kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation as well as uncertainty of manipulator. This vision control method is roboust and reliable, which overcomes the difficulties of the conventional research such as precise calibration of the vision sensor, exact kinematic modeling of the manipulator, and correct knowledge of position and orientation of CCD camera with respect to the manipulator base. Finally, evidence of the ability of real-time vision control method for manipulator's position control is provided by performing the thin-rod placement in space with 2 cues test model which is completed without a prior knowledge of camera or manipulator positions. This feature opens the door to a range of applications of manipulation, including a mobile manipulator with stationary cameras tracking and providing information for control of the manipulator event.
