The operation of proceeding bearing in the conditions of misaligned axis of proceeding and bush leads to the load concentration on the bearing edges causing further mixed lubrication conditions, unstable operation and intensive wear of mating parts. For the design process of proceeding bearing the knowledge of static characteristics determined from the oil film pressure and temperature distribution is very important. For the 3-lobe proceeding bearing, the pressure, temperature and viscosity fields, load capacity, minimum oil film thickness, power loss, oil flow and maximum oil film temperature have been determined by iterative solution of the Reynolds', energy and viscosity equations. The paper introduces the results of theoretical investigations of static characteristics of 3-lobe proceeding bearing operating at misaligned axis of proceeding and bush. An effect of misalignment ratio, length to diameter ratio of the proceeding bearing, the lobe clearance ratio on the static characteristics was investigated. Laminar, adiabatic model of oil film for the solution of Reynolds, energy and viscosity equations was applied.
Knowledge of seismic earth pressure against rigid retaining wall is very important. Mononobe-Okabe method is commonly used, which considers pseudo-static approach. In this paper, the pseudo-dynamic method is used to compute the distribution of seismic earth pressure on a rigid cantilever retaining wall supporting dry cohesionless backfill. Planar rupture surface is considered in the analysis. Effect of various parameters like wall friction angle, soil friction angle, shear wave velocity, primary wave velocity, horizontal and vertical seismic accelerations on seismic earth pressure have been studied. Results are presented in terms of tabular and graphical non-dimensional form.

The effects of casing shape on the performance and interaction between the impeller and casing in a small-size turbo-compressor are investigated. Numerical analysis is conducted for the compressor with circular and single volute casings from inlet to discharge nozzle. In order to predict the flow pattern inside the entire impeller, vaneless diffuer and casing, calculations with multiple frames of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For compressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and three-dimensional time-averaged Wavier-Stokes equations are employed. To evaluate the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure and loss coefficients are obtained with various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load. To prove the accuracy of numerical results, measurements of static pressure around casing and pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the compressor are peformed for the circular casing. Comparisons of these results between the experimental and numerical analyses are conducted, and reasonable agreement is obtained.

The effects of casing shapes on the performance and the interaction between an impeller and a casing in a small-sized centrifugal compressor are investigated. Especially, numerical analyses are conducted for the centrifugal compressor with both a circular casing and a volute one. The optimum design for each element (i.e., impeller, diffuser and casing) is important to develop an efficient and compact compressor using alternative refrigerant as working fluids. Typical rotating speed of the compressor is in the range of 40,000∼45,000 rpm. The impeller has backswept blades due to tip clearance and a vane diffuser has wedge type. In order to predict the flow pattern inside an entire impeller, vaneless diffuser and casing, calculations with multiple frames of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For computations of compressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are employed. To evaluate the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure recovery and loss coefficients are obtained for various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load. The static pressure around the casing and pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the compressor are measured for the circular casing.
The unsteady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional large-eddy simulation(LES) was carried out to evaluate the vorticity distribution of a small-size axial fan(SSAF). The X-component vorticity profiles developed around blade tips turn from axial to radial, and diminish the density of distribution according to the increase of static pressure. Otherwise, the Z-component vorticity profiles evenly develop at the region larger than the half radial distance of blade at the operating points of A and B, partly at the trailing-edge region of blade and radially over bellmouth according to the increase of static pressure.

Background: The purposed of this study is to examine the static and dynamic plantar foot pressure in chronic low back pain patients and normal adults. Methods: The subjects were divided into a group of 30 patients with chronic low back pain and a control group of 30 healthy persons. While static posture and dynamic posture at comfortable walking speeds, the low back pain group and the control group measured their plantar foot pressure and the trajectory of their center of pressure (COP) using the Matscan(R) system. Independent t-tests were measured to compare differences in plantar foot pressure characteristics between the left side and right side of the low back pain group and the control group. Results: In the comparison of differences in plantar foot pressure characteristics between the left side and right side of the low back pain group and the control group, the anteroposterior (AP) displacement of COP showed significant differences (p<.05). Although the low back pain group and the control group did not show any significant differences in leg length, weight distribution, mediolateral (ML) displacement of COP, static contract area, dynamic contract areas (p>.05), increases in the contract area values were shown in the hind foot in general. Conclusion: In this study, it was shown that patients with chronic low back pain were walking with short AP displacement of the COP as a compensatory action to avoid pain.

Internal and external heat sources will cause to deform to machine elements in the contact joint of structure, which results in the change of contact pressure distribution different from initial assembly. Heat induced variations of contact pressure will change the static and dynamic properties such as contact stiffness, damping as well as contact heat conduction in the structure In order to design and control the intelligent machine tool operating in variant conditions more sophisticatedly, the good prediction for the changes of prescribed properties are strongly required especially in the contact elements adjacent to the rotational or linear bearing. This paper presents some computational and experimental results in regard to static and dynamic characteristics of the press-fitted bush and shaft assembly which is a model of the bearing innerrace and shaft assembly. In the condition of heat generation on the outer surface of the bush, the effects of changes in the negative clearance and the heat flux on pressure distribution and dynamic properties are investigated. Results of this study show that the edge effect of the bush and the initial clearance have effects on the transient dynamic characteristics significantly.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between static pressure recovery and velocity distributions in case of swirling flow into a conical diffuser. In this research, velocity distribution is measured by a multi-hole yaw-meter. The following conclusions can be drawn from the experiments. (1) The static pressure recovery depends strongly on the strength of a swirl. (2) A high pressure recovery coefficient is achieved by inserting a solid core into the diffuser center.

The fluid mechanics and operating conditions of gas-lubricated proceeding bearings in micro rotating machinery such as micro polarization modulator and micro gas turbine are different from their larger size ones. Due to non-continuum effects, there is a slip of gas at the walls. Thus in this paper, the slip flow effect is considered to estimate the pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity of micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearings as the local Knudsen number at the minimum film thickness is greater than 0.01. Based on the compressible Reynolds equation with slip flow, the static characteristics of micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearings are obtained. Numerical predictions compare the pressure distribution and load capacity considering slip flow with the performance of micro proceeding bearings without slip f]ow for a range of bearing numbers and eccentricities. The results clearly show that the slip flow effect on the static characteristics is considerable and becomes more significant as temperature increases.
The supersonic combustion experiments are carried out using T3 free-piston shock tunnel. Different shock tube fill pressures have various inflow conditions. $15^{\circ}$ inclined hydrogen fuel injection is located before the cavity. Oblique shock is generated at the trailing edge of the cavity and reflects off the top and bottom wall. For non-reacting flow, static pressures in low equivalence ratio are similar to those in no fuel injection. As equivalence ratio is increased, static pressures are increased in the duct. In the similar equivalence ratio, static pressures are increased when total enthalpy is decreased. For reacting flow, the flame is occurred near the cavity. The combustion is weak locally in the middle of the duct. The up and down pressure distribution in the duct means that the supersonic combustion is generated.
