  • Radial, tilting-pad proceeding bearings are applied in high speed rotating machines operating at stable small and mean loads and the peripheral speeds of proceeding reaching 150 m/s. The operation of bearing can be determined by static characteristics including the oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions, minimum oil film thickness, load capacity, power loss, oil flow. The operation of 5-lobe tilted-pad proceeding bearing has been introduced at the assumption of adiabatic oil film. The oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions habe received by iterative solution of the Reynolds', energy and viscosity equations. The resulting oil film force, minimum oil film thickness, power loss. oil flow, maximum oil film pressure, maximum temperature were computed for different sets of bearing geometric parameters as: bearing length to diameter ratio, pad angular length and width as well as pad relative clearance.

  • The main object of this study is to investigate the collection characteristics of an electro-static multi-staged impaction system, experimentally. The experiment is carried out to analyze the characteristics of pressure drop and collection efficiency for the present system with the experimental parameters such as the inlet velocity, stage number, applied voltage and shape of discharge electrode, etc. In results, the pressure drop is shown below $148mmH_2O$ lower than that of the conventional bag filter at inlet velocity 3.46 m/s and 5 stage. For 5 stage, the collection efficiencies are to be 97.4, 99.0% with the applied voltage 0 kV at the inlet velocity 2.07, 3.46 m/s, while 98.4, 99.9% with 40 kV of a sharp edge discharge electrode. Additionally, the present system is to be considered as an effective compact system for a removal of particulate pollutants from marine diesel engines due to much higher collection efficiency and appropriate pressure drop.

  • Internal and external heat sources will cause to deform to machine elements in the contact joint of structure, which results in the change of contact pressure distribution different from initial assembly. Heat induced variations of contact pressure will change the static and dynamic properties such as contact stiffness, damping as well as contact heat conduction in the structure In order to design and control the intelligent machine tool operating in variant conditions more sophisticatedly, the good prediction for the changes of prescribed properties are strongly required especially in the contact elements adjacent to the rotational or linear bearing. This paper presents some computational and experimental results in regard to static and dynamic characteristics of the press-fitted bush and shaft assembly which is a model of the bearing innerrace and shaft assembly. In the condition of heat generation on the outer surface of the bush, the effects of changes in the negative clearance and the heat flux on pressure distribution and dynamic properties are investigated. Results of this study show that the edge effect of the bush and the initial clearance have effects on the transient dynamic characteristics significantly.

  • This paper experimentally investigates the characteristics of dual coaxial jet issuing from inner supersonic nozzle and four kinds of outer converging nozzle of 40, 50, $60^{\circ}$ and $70^{\circ}$ in outer ejection angle. The pressure ratio of the stagnation to the exit ambient pressures in the inner supersonic nozzle of constant expansion rate is 7.5, which is corresponded to the condition of a slightly underexpanded, and that of outer nozzle is 4.0. Flow visualizations by using of shadowgraph method, impact pressure and centerline static pressure measurements are presented. It is found that the jet structure is changed significantly by the variation of outer nozzle ejection angle. Impact pressure level is lower and undulation of static pressure is higher, as the injection angle of outer jet increases.

  • The analysis of an air spring characteristics is necessary to design and control automotive air suspension system properly. A mathematical model of an air spring was derived in light of energy conservation first. Then static and dynamic experiments of the air spring have been fulfilled. The static stiffness with various initial pressures and effective areas were obtained from the static experimental results. Theoretical static stiffness obtained by using the mathematical model and effective area data is in close accordance with the experimental estimation. The dynamic experimental results show that the hysteresis in displacement-force cycle decreases when the frequency of the harmonic displacement excitation signal increases, but it does not change too much as the frequency is higher than 1Hz. And the dynamic stiffness goes up with increasing of the initial pressure and the excitation frequency.

  • The effects of oil supply conditions on the static and dynamic properties of journal bearings supporting high speed rotors were investigated. The initially unknown hydrostatic pressure in oil pockets were determined by iteration with the aid of the equation of oil flow balance for given oil supply pressure and flow coefficients of oil inlet. For the calculation of dynamic characteristics, the dynamic changes of pressure in lubricating gaps and oil pockets were linearised with a perturbation method.

  • The fluid mechanics and operating conditions of gas-lubricated proceeding bearings in micro rotating machinery such as micro polarization modulator and micro gas turbine are different from their larger size ones. Due to non-continuum effects, there is a slip of gas at the walls. Thus in this paper, the slip flow effect is considered to estimate the pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity of micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearings as the local Knudsen number at the minimum film thickness is greater than 0.01. Based on the compressible Reynolds equation with slip flow, the static characteristics of micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearings are obtained. Numerical predictions compare the pressure distribution and load capacity considering slip flow with the performance of micro proceeding bearings without slip f]ow for a range of bearing numbers and eccentricities. The results clearly show that the slip flow effect on the static characteristics is considerable and becomes more significant as temperature increases.

  • In order to analyze the static and dynamic structural characteristics of the Obermeyer gate under overflow conditions, the force characteristics and vibration characteristics of the shield plate structure are studied based on the fluid-solid coupling theory. In this paper, the effects of the flow rate, airbag pressure and overflow water level on the structural performance of shield plate of air shield dam are explored through the method of controlling variables. The results show that the maximum equivalent stress and total deformation of the shield plate decrease first and then increase with the flow velocity. In addition, they are positively correlated with the airbag pressure. What's more, we find that the maximum equivalent stress of the shield plate decreases first and then increases with the overflow water level, and the total deformation of the shield plate decreases with the overflow water level. What's more importantly, the natural frequency of the shield structure of the Obermeyer gate is concentrated at 50 Hz and 100 Hz, so there is still the possibility of resonance. Once the resonance occurs, the free edge of the shield vibrates back and forth. This work may provide a theoretical reference for the safe and stable operation of the shield of the Obermeyer gate.

  • The static friction coefficients of 4 samples against each different temperatures were similar values. Compared against RT, at $80^{\circ}C$ the static friction coefficients decreased from 0.130 to 0.116 that was equal from 88% to 90% of the static friction coefficients respectively. Otherwise the dynamic friction coefficients compared against RT, decreased from 0.138 to 0.088 which was from 71% to 77.5% respectively at $80^{\circ}C$. The noise characteristics were judged by s/d value. And when the s/d value was limited less than 0.8, noise concerns were released. At 3000 engaging cycles the static friction and the dynamic friction coefficient were 0.137 and 0.073 respectively. When plate pressure rose up to $195kg_f/cm^2$, the static friction coefficient decreased from 0.137 to 0.125 but this decreasing could be considered as stable. When speed rose up to 2200rpm, the static friction coefficient decrease from 0.14 to 0.13 but this decreasing could be considered as stable. At 3000 engaging cycles the amount of worn out was 0.04 : the thickness of disc was decrease from 4.72mm to 4.68mm. But regarding the normal operation condition, further more worn-out could not be expected. Therefore concerning worn-out, the basic oil could be considered as appropriate.

  • The pressure reducing valve for water is controlled by the load of the compression spring and the force of the fluid acting on the diaphragm of the stem. Repeated upward and downward reciprocation of the pressure-reducing valve stem damages the diaphragm, resulting in leakage. In this study, we designed a stem without a diaphragm and adjusted the stiffness of the compressing spring. In order to select the spring stiffness, springs offering a stiffness of -20%, -10%, 0%, and 10% with respect to the stiffness of the compression spring attached to the existing pressure reducing valve stiffness. A prototype for the pressure reducing valve was fabricated and the pressure change was evaluated for the target static pressure (6 bar) by testing the pressure characteristics after mounting the modified stem and each compression spring. Evaluation of the pressure characteristics was carried out using ASSE 1003 and KS B 6153. In addition, the flow rates were compared by internal flow analysis of the conventional pressure reducing valve and the pressure reducing valve using the modified stems, and the flow analysis was performed using Solidworks flow simulation 2018. The spring stiffness was constantly discharged at the target static pressure of 3.793 kgf/mm, and the flow rate was increased by about 15% compared with the conventional pressure reducing valve.
