ShadowCam is a National Aeronautics and Space Administration Advanced Exploration Systems funded instrument hosted onboard the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) satellite. By collecting high-resolution images of permanently shadowed regions (PSRs), ShadowCam will provide critical information about the distribution and accessibility of water ice and other volatiles at spatial scales (1.7 m/pixel) required to mitigate risks and maximize the results of future exploration activities. The PSRs never see direct sunlight and are illuminated only by light reflected from nearby topographic highs. Since secondary illumination is very dim, ShadowCam was designed to be over 200 times more sensitive than previous imagers like the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera Narrow Angle Camera (LROC NAC). ShadowCam images thus allow for unprecedented views into the shadows, but saturate while imaging sunlit terrain.
For detecting requirement errors in early system development phase, the behaviors of a system should be described in formal methods and be analyzed with analysis techniques such as reachability analysis and cycle detection. However, since they are usually based on explicit exploration of system state space, state explosion problem may be occurred when a system becomes complex. That is, the memory and execution time for exploration exponentially increase due to a huge state space. In this paper, we analyze the fundamental causes of this problem in concurrent systems and explore the state space without composing concurrent state spaces for reducing the memory requirement for exploration. Also our new technique keeps a visited history minimally for reducing execution time. Finally we represent experimental results which show the efficiency of our technique.

ShadowCam is a high-sensitivity, high-resolution imager provided by NASA for the Danuri (KPLO) lunar mission. ShadowCam calibration shows that it is well suited for its purpose, to image permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) that occur near the lunar poles. It is 205 times as sensitive as the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC). The signal to noise ratio (SNR) is greater than 100 over a large part of the dynamic range, and the top of the dynamic range is high enough to accommodate most brighter PSR pixels. The optical performance is good enough to take full advantage of the 1.7 meter/pixel image scale, and calibrated images have uniform response. We describe some instrument artifacts that are amenable to future corrections, making it possible to improve performance further. Stray light control is very challenging for this mission. In many cases, ShadowCam can image shadowed areas with directly illuminated terrain in or near the field of view (FOV). We include thorough qualitative descriptions of circumstances under which lunar brightness levels far higher than the top of the dynamic range cause detector or stray light artifacts and the size and extent of the artifact signal under those circumstances.

Lunar permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) never see direct sunlight and are illuminated only by secondary illumination - light reflected from nearby topography. The ShadowCam imaging experiment onboard the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter is acquiring images of these PSRs. We characterize and discuss the nature of secondary illumination for the Shackleton PSR from ShadowCam radiance-calibrated images. We also use modeling to understand the magnitude and direction of the secondary illumination. Results from our analysis highlight the non-homogeneous, dynamic, and complex nature of PSR secondary lighting. Knowledge of the direction of the secondary illumination is crucial for reli-able interpretation of contrasts observed in ShadowCam images. This preliminary analysis of the floor of Shackleton crater from images acquired over multiple secondary illumination conditions does not reveal indications of exposed surface ice, even though temperatures are constantly below 110K.

The Time Domain Field is one of the future GTO program fields of JWST(JWST/GTO TDS), surveying about 14' diameter field at the North Eliptical Pole(NEP) with NIRCam/NIRISS. As a part of the multi-wavelength study of the field, we have obtained SCUBA-2 850㎛ mapping which reaches a depth of σrms = 0.9mJy/beam and detect 93 sources at S/N > 3.5 ― which are expected to be highly star-forming (SFR>400M◉/yr) galaxies at z ≳ 1.5-4 and pinpoint the location at <0. " 1 accuracy of 68 sub-mm sources by identifying VLA 3GHz radio counterparts. In this talk, we will introduce the SCUBA-2 JWST/GTO TDS project and the newly discovered sub-mm sources in this field.
One of the most fundamental challenges when designing controllers for dynamic systems is the adjustment of controller parameters. Usually the system model is used to get the initial controller, but eventually the controller parameters must be manually adjusted in the real system to achieve the best performance. To avoid this manual tuning step, data-driven methods such as machine learning were used. Recently, reinforcement learning became one alternative of this problem to be considered as an agent learns policies in large state space with trial-and-error Markov Decision Process (MDP) which is widely used in the field of robotics. However, on initial training step, as an agent tries to explore to the new state space with random action and acts directly on the controller parameters in real systems, MDP can lead the system safety-critical system failures. Therefore, the issue of 'safe exploration' became important. In this paper we meet 'safe exploration' condition with Control Barrier Function (CBF) which converts direct constraints on the state space to the implicit constraint of the control inputs. Given an initial low-performance controller, it automatically optimizes the parameters of the control law while ensuring safety by the CBF so that the agent can learn how to predict and control unknown and often stochastic environments. Simulation results on a quadrotor UAV indicate that the proposed method can safely optimize controller parameters quickly and automatically.

In terms of deep Reinforcement Learning (RL), exploration can be worked stochastically in the action of a state space. On the other hands, exploitation can be done the proportion of well generalization behaviors. The balance of exploration and exploitation is extremely important for better results. The randomly selected action with ε-greedy for exploration has been regarded as a de facto method. There is an alternative method to add noise parameters into a neural network for richer exploration. However, it is not easy to predict or detect over-fitting with the stochastically exploration in the perturbed neural network. Moreover, the well-trained agents in RL do not necessarily prevent or detect over-fitting in the neural network. Therefore, we suggest a novel design of a deep RL by the balance of the exploration with drop-out to reduce over-fitting in the perturbed neural networks.

In this paper, we propose an improved method of state exploration called the extended circular exploration (ECE) for the efficiency of state exploration and the reduction of explosively growing state. The ECE does not need to explore all the reachable global states, and It can be applied to JV($\boxDr$$\geq$ 2) -party protocol with alternative routes, i.e., it is applicable to the protocol In which adaptiverouting mechanism can be performed. The ECE eliminates a restriction of topology of the conventional circular exploration(CE) by exploring only those global states which are reachable, provided that the participant processes of any group of transitions proceed at the same speed, and that they can be formed as a cycle. Thus the state space explored if not exhaustive. The algorithm presented can detect deadlock error and unspecified reception error It requires storage space and /or execution time much less than those of the conventional perturbation(CP) . It might be used for a solution of the N-process collision and the interference mechanism.
To investigate the impact of the high-redshift quasars on cosmic reionization, the faint end slope of the quasars luminosity function has to be determined precisely. More quasars with low luminosity are needed to constrain the contribution to reionization in the early universe. However, finding these quasars has been regarded as tough process owing to the improper shallow depth of imaging data. In recent days, the release data of Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Strategic Program survey which provide the deep images reaching ~ 25 mag facilitates searching the faint quasars candidates. To find faint quasar candidates in ELAIS-N1 field, along with the HSC data, two near-infrared (NIR) data sets also be used : The Infrared Medium-deep Survey (IMS) and The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) - Deep Extragalactic Survey (DXS). Quasar candidates selected from the multi-band color cut were observed by the SED camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (SQUEAN) instrument. To trace the redshifted Lyman break efficiently, appropriate medium bands comparable to targeted redshift range are chosen. The most reliable quasar candidates are finally determined through SED fitting. Using this less luminous quasars candidates, we can speculate the relation between the quasar growth and the host galaxy unbiasedly and estimate the contribution to the cosmic reionization.

Since interstellar objects like 1I/'Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov originate from exoplanetary systems, even if we do not visit the exoplanetary systems, flyby, rendezvous, and sample return missions of interstellar objects can provide clues to solve the mysteries of cosmic life phenomena such as the origin of exoplanetary systems, galactic evolution, biosignatures (or even technosignatures), and panspermia. In this paper, we review space missions for interstellar object exploration in the stage of mission design or concept study such as Project Lyra, Bridge, Comet Interceptors, and LightcraftTM. We also review space missions, OSIRIS-REx and NEA Scout, designed for Near Earth Asteroids(NEA) explorations, to investigate the current state of basic technologies that can be extended to explore interstellar objects in a velocity of ~ 6AU/year. One of the technologies that needs to be developed for interstellar object exploration is a spacecraft propulsion method such as solar sail, which can catch up with the fast speed of interstellar objects. If this kind of propulsion becomes practical for space explorations, interstellar object explorations will mark a new era and serve as a driving force to provide evidences of cosmic life.
