  • This paper presents a new method to reducing inrush current and energy saving of capacitor starting single-phase induction motor used in air-conditioner. It can be obtained that proposed system is low cost and small size as compared with other controller. Experiments are focused on a capacitor starting single-phase induction motor. The optimal power saving and in-rush current limiting by phase angle control are verified by experimental results. Also, auxiliary winding was controlled by electronic starting switch.

  • The magnitude of output torque in a BLDC Motor depends on torque angle so that the exact initial position of rotor is essentially required for good starting. This paper presents a novel starting control method for smooth starting in a position-sensorless controlled BLDC motor drive for reciprocating compressor of refrigerator. The proposed method starts a BLDC motor using information on the initial position of rotor, determined from current response characteristics, and shows robust starting capability to starting load variations. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through experimental results.

  • We propose a control system consisted of TRIAC PWM module and sequential start control system attenuating voltage-dip and inrush current caused by starting of inductive load network. To minimize the high voltage-dip and inrush current induced from a large capacity inductive load, we developed a TRIAC PWM module. And we also developed a sequential start control system preventing simultaneous starting of the inductive loads within a same power network. According to the experimental results with the proposed control system, the voltage-dip and inrush current could be effectively attenuated such that they can meet the related international standards and resolve the issues associated with simultaneous starting of multiple inductive loads. By employing this system, power cost usually implemented by the estimation of peak power consumption can be reduced and the power quality of a power distribution system connected to the inductive load network can be stabilized efficiently.

  • The most common method of the single phase induction motor(SPIM) is to install a starting condenser and a centrifugal switch in series with the auxiliary winding. Even though this capacitor start method is embodied simply, it is feasible because of motor failure from malfunction of the centrifugal switch and the starting condenser. Moreover, it is hard to improve the performance characteristics of the SPIM. In this paper, the voltage and phase angle sequence, control strategy of the auxiliary winding of the SFIM is employed to eliminate the centrifugal switch and the starting condenser. The proposed control system is superior to a conventional system in the starting performance of SPIM. Finally, the improved starting characteristics of the SPIM is obtained with this strategy through simulation and experimental results.

  • Reactor starting method has the advantage of simplicity and closed transition in spite of lower starting torque per kVA. This method allows a smooth start with almost no observable disturbance on transition and is suitable for applications such as centrifugal pumps or fans. Reactive power doesn't contribute to work but needs to sustain the electromagnetic field required for the induction motor to operate. Starting power factor of induction motor is specially lower than running power factor. Power factor application is needed to compensate for the lower power factor of induction motor. This power factor compensation systems is occasionally being hit by the effects of the starting reactor connection position at the starting, stopping of high-voltage induction motor. This paper describes voltage and current stress affected by the installation position of power factor compensation application at the reactor starting method.

  • The frequency of lightning is increased due to improbable weather condition and global wanning. This phenomenon increases economical damage as well as human damage. Advanced countries like europe and north america have applied the facility standard of lightning by accumulating a store of quantitative data about lightning research. Lightning facility is composed of the lightning accepting part for induction lightning, ground connected electrode which conducts lightning current. The lightning accepting part is composed of normal rod, horizontal conductor, ESE lightning rod. Moreover, lightning accepting part is taken to use by the method of protection. This paper suggests HEC(Hybrid ESE-Conductor) method which mixes horizontal conductor and ESE lightning rod. This is also discovered by experiment that the starting point of corona discharge current is low, so it is efficient for lightning protection comparing with other methods. Moreover, distribution of electric field is analyzed qualitatively by finite element method. It also results in the relation of the starting point of corona discharge current. Corona discharge current makes minute current about some ${\mu}A$ between the electrodes by the strength of electric field. Also it occurs insulation destruction of gas, and it is developed to the shape of streamer by increase of the strength of electric field. We can find that the initial occurrence of streamer and contact probability of lightning can have advantage after researching the starting point of corona discharge current and discharge current of lightning striking point. This research demonstrates that the suggested HEC method is economically competitive as a lightning protection facility, and it takes a capably perfect role.

  • Generally, the motor inside vehicle is exposed to highly ambient temperature and large vibration according to repeatedly starting and stopping for very short time. So, in this paper, the rotor shape design was performed to improve demagnetization endurance by considering the starting current of the Brushless DC (BLDC) Motor through the Finite Element Method(FEM). As a result, the partial irreversible demagnetization was occurred by starting current at the end of Permanent Magnets of the basic model. To solve this problem, the flux barrier design was performed and the flux on the rotor core was limited. Accordingly, demagnetization endurance and operating characteristics were improved.

  • This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a grid-connected wind turbine generation system with respect to wind variations, starting of large induction motor and three-phase fault in the system, and investigates voltage variations of the system for disturbances. It describes the modeling of the wind turbine system including the drive train model, induction generator model, and grid-interface model on MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show the variation of the generator torque, the generator rotor speed, the pitch angle, terminal voltage, system voltage, fault current, and real/reactive power output, etc. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction for wind speed variations, starting of a large induction motor causes a voltage sag due to a large starting current, and a fault on the system influences on the output of the wind turbine generator.

  • From standstill to medium speed which enough to sensing back EMF, it is not easy to drive without additional equipments due to directly proportional to flux. Conventional method to drive is 'align and go' method, so called v/f control that is increased voltage duty in proportion to the increase of frequency. Because it isn't consider load of motor and doesn't know rotor position exactly, current is supplied too much current or not enough to rotate motor. This paper is proposed starting method without any poison sensor and can drive a BLDC motor from standstill to the medium speed smoothly without any rattling and time delay compared with the conventional starting algorithm. To verify algorithm of this paper, experimental results are presented.
