광릉 활엽수천연림의 산림식생구조, 입지환경 및 탄소저장량 (Forest Stand Structure, Site Characteristics and Carbon Budget of the Kwangneung Natural Forest in Korea)

  • The study area, Kwangneung Experiment Forest (KEF) is located on the west-central portion of Korean peninsula and belongs to a cool-temperate broadleaved forest Bone. At the old-growth deciduous forest near Soribong-peak (533.1 m) in KEF, we have established a 1 ha permanent plot ($100m{\times}100m$) and a flux tower, and the site was registered as a KLTER(Korean long-term ecological research network) and DK site of KoFlux. In this site, we made a stemmap of trees and analyzed forest stand structure and physical and chemical soil characteristics, and estimated carbon budgets by forest components (tree biomass, soils, litter and so on). Dominant tree species were Quercus serrata and Carpinus laxiflora, and accompanied by Q. aliena, Carpinus cordata, and so on. As a result of a field survey of the plot, density of the trees larger than 2 cm in DBH was 1,473 trees per ha, total biomass 261.2 tons/ha, and basal area $28.0m^2$/ha. Parent rock type is granite gneiss. Soil type is brown forest soil (alfisols in USDA system), and the depth is from 38 to 66 cm. Soil texture is loam or sandy loam, and its pH was f개m 4.2 to 5.0 in the surface layer, and from 4.8 to 5.2 in the subsurface layer. Seasonal changes in LAI were measured by hemispherical photography at the 1.2 m height, and the maximum was 3.65. And the spatial distributions of volumetric soil moisture contents and LAIs of the plot were measured. The carbon pool in living tree biomass including below ground biomass was 136 tons C/ha, and 5.6 tons C/ha is stored in the litter layer, and about 92.0 tons C/ha in the soil to the 30 cm in depth. Totally more than about 233.6 tons C/ha was stored in DK site. These ground survey and monitoring data will give some important parameters and validation data for the forest dynamics models or biogeochemical dynamics models to predict or interpolate spatially the changes in forest ecosystem structure and function.

In this study, we aimed to present basic ecological characteristics and synthetic data of carbon budgets and flows, and some monitoring data which are essential for providing important parameters and validation data for the forest dynamics models or biogeochemical dynamics models to predict or interpolate spatially the changes in forest ecosystem structure and function. Litterfall was collected in circular littertraps (collecting area: 0.25m2) and mass loss rates and nutrient release patterns in decomposing litter were estimated using the litterbag technique employing 30cm30cm nylon bags with l.5mm mesh size. Total annual litterfall was 5,627 kg/ha/year and leaf litter accounted for 61% of the litterfall. The leaf litter quantity was highest in Quercus serrata, followed by Carpinus laxiflora and C. cordata, etc. Mass loss from decomposing leaf litter was more rapid in C. laxiflora and C. cordata than in Q. serrata litter. About 77% of C. laxiflora and 84% of C. cordata litter disappeared, while about 48% in Q. serrata litter lost over two years. The carbon pool in living tree biomass including below ground biomass was 136 tons C/ha, and 5.6 tons C/ha is stored in the litter layer, and about 92.0 tons C/ha in the soil to the 30cm in depth. Totally more than about 233.6 tons C/ha was stored in DK site. And then we have drawn a schematic diagram of carbon budgets and flows in each compartment of the KEF site.

Long-term Ecological Research Programme in Forestry Research Institute, Korea

  • Forest vegetation in Korea can be largely divided into warm temperate, cool temperate and frigid forest zone. The cool temperate forest zone of them occupies the largest part of the Korean peninsula and it is generally divided into three subdivisions such as northern, central and southern subzone. The Forestry Research Institute established three long-term ecological research sites at Kwangnung Experiment Forest in the central subzone of the cool temperate forest zone, at the Mt. Kyebangsan Forest in the northern subzone of the cool temperate forest zone. and at the Mt. Keumsan Forest in the warm temperate forest zone. The objectives of long-term ecological research in the Forestry Research Institute, Korea are to study long-term changes of the forest ecosystems in energy fluxes, water and nutrient cycling, forest stand structure, biological diversity, to quantify nutrient budgets and fluxes among forest ecosystem compartments and to integrate ecological data with a GIS - assisted model. To achieve the objectives, forest stand dynamics. environmental changes in soil properties, stream water quality, nutrient cycling, air pollution and biological diversity have been investigated and plant phonology as an indicator of climate change has been monitored in the LTER sites.

계방산 가문비나무 임분의 개체군구조와 동태 (Population Structure and Dynamics of the Picea jezoensis Stand in Mt. Gyebangsan)

  • 본 연구는 계방산 가문비나무 임분을 대상으로 2012년 3월부터 10월까지 36개의 영구조사구를 설치하여 개체군 구조와 동태를 분석하였다. 가문비나무의 흉고직경급별 개체 분포는 직경 10 cm 미만이 32본(50.0%), 직경 10 cm~30 cm 미만이 20본(31.2%), 직경 30 cm 이상이 11본(18.8%)으로 직경이 커질수록 개체수가 감소하는 역 J자형의 분포 유형을 나타내었다. 가문비나무 유묘 및 치수는 상층임관이 열려있거나 햇볕이 잘 들어오는 곳, 그루터기(stump)와 같이 유기물 및 수분경쟁이 유리한 장소를 선호하는 경향이었다. 연륜생장을 분석하여 가문비나무 임분 내 교란시점을 추정한 결과 1854년, 1915년, 1918년, 1993년, 2002년 전후로 하여 발생하였으며, 숲 틈 형성목(gap-maker)의 유형은 서서 죽는 경우(standing dead)가 23본(45.1%)으로 가장 많았다.

한라산 영실 지역 구상나무림의 6년간(2011년과 2017년)의 임분구조 변화 (Changes for Stand Structure of Abies koreana Forest at the Yeongsil Area of Mt. Hallasan for Six Years (from 2011 to 2017))

  • 본 연구는 국립환경과학원에서 실시한 국가 장기 생태 연구를 위해 구축된 한라산 영실 구상나무림 1 ha ($100m{\times}100m$)를 대상으로 흉고직경급 분포, 수간건강상태, 중요치, 종다양도 분석을 통해 6년간(2011~2017)의 임분 구조 및 동태를 비교하기 위하여 실시하였다. 흉고직경급 분포에서 구상나무는 20-25 cm 직경급을 제외하고 모든 직경급에서 개체수의 감소가 나타났으며, 총 개체수의 변화도 780개체에서 655개체로 감소하였다. 수간건강상태에서 구상나무의 곧게 서서 생육하는 개체(AS)의 비율이 652개체(66.1 %)에서 546개체(60.2 %)로 감소한 반면에 곧게 서서 고사한 개체(DS)의 비율은 106개체(10.7 %)에서 126개체(13.9 %)로, 쓰러져 고사한 개체(DF)의 비율은 16개체(1.6 %)에서 47개체(5.2 %)로 각각 증가하였다. 구상나무의 중요치는 2011년 45.9 %에서 2017년 43.5 %로 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 종다양도의 경우, 2011년 0.513에서 2017년 0.519로 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 2011년에서 2017년까지 6년간의 변화를 살펴보았을 때, 한라산 영실지역에서 구상나무의 세력 약화는 흉고직경급 분포, 수간건강상태, 중요치 등 많은 측면에서 뒷받침 되고 있으며, 앞으로 생태계 변화에 의한 영향을 구명하기 위한 장기적인 모니터링 및 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료되었다.

독일 아이펠의 지역적 관리에 따른 유럽너도밤나무 숲의 생장변화 추정을 위한 시뮬레이션 개발 (Development of Simulation for Estimating Growth Changes of Locally Managed European Beech Forests in the Eifel Region of Germany)

  • 숲을 체계적으로 관리하고 경영하기 위해서는 나무생장 변화에 대한 신뢰성 있는 예측이 필요하다. 독일의 아이펠 지역에서는 주요 목재종인 유럽너도밤나무가 식재되어 관리되어 지고 있다. 본 지역의 산림관리자의 실제 산림경영의 경험과 조언을 토대로, 다양한 산림 관리에 따른 단기 및 장기 효과를 예측하고자 지역 특수성을 지니는 시뮬레이션 모델의 접근방법을 개발하고자 하였다. 시뮬레이션 모델은 (1) 묘목 생성, (2) 나무 사멸 조절 (3) 나무 생장의 세 가지 모듈로 구성된다. 산림관리자에 의해 제공된 너도밤나무 숲의 실제 부피 변화를 근사화하기 위해 다양한 변수(나무수, 나무간 거리, 씨앗의 분포, 경쟁)를 반복적으로 수정하여 세 가지 모듈을 결합한 하이브리드 시뮬레이션 모델을 개발할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 유럽너도밤나무 숲의 350년을 모의하여 생장 변화를 예측하였으며, 아이펠 지역의 세 가지 다른 관리 방법 (숲을 보호한 상태에서 목재벌채, 선택적 벌목, 보호림) 시나리오를 적용하였을 때 모의된 결과를 비교하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 나무 생장의 변화가 현실적으로 잘 반영되었다는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 미래에 장기간 실제 축적된 산림 데이터를 획득하여, 검증과 보정의 과정을 반복한다면 더 높은 정확도의 지역 맞춤형 모델이 개발될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

가변형 단일 궤도를 이용한 장애물 극복방법에 관한 연구 (Study of a Variable Single-tracked Crawler for Overcoming Obstacles)

  • In our paper, we propose an asymmetric single-tracked wheel system, and describe its structure and the method for maintaining the length of a transformable track system. And the method is reducing the gap of lengths. Therefore, we propose an efficient structure for transforming and explain motions with kinematics. Our transformable shape single-tracked mobile system has an advantage to overcome an obstacle or stairs by the variable arms in the single unity track system. But we will make the variable shape of tracked system get a drive that has a force to stand against a wall. In this case, we can consider this system to a rigid body and have a notice that this single tracked system is able to get vary shape with the variable arm angle. Considering forces balance along x-axis and y-axis, and moments balance around the center of the mass we have. If this rigid body is standing against a wall and doesn't put in motion, the force of flat ground and the rigid body sets an equal by a friction. In the same way, the force of a wall and the rigid sets an equal by a friction.

이족보행로보트의 구동부 및 제어부의 설계에 관한 연구 (A study on the driver and controller design of the biped robot)

  • The purpose of this paper is to design and construct the compact type joint driver and controller of the biped robot. This biped robot will be designed to be suitable for the practical usages and applications in the work environment, which is not plat floor, like a stairs by taking the stand-alone style that equipped all the parts except power sources. Generally, highly nonlinear motion dynamics of the biped robot is realized to linear approximations by installing a high-ratio speed reducer at each joint and dividing motions into a several piecewise linear motions, which is realized by the digital controller design techniques. This biped robot has symmetrical structure to get the stable walking ability and also the hierachical structure to control each joint as well. That is, all of the joint controllers are connected to the main controller in the composition of overall controllers. The driver and controller of each joint uses PI controller that compensate the velocity and position errors by the data of the encoder. And the signal characteristics of each joint controller forms a trapezoid speed profile which is predefined by the values of direction, maximum velocity and position.

Changes in Forest Disturbance Patterns from 1976 to 2005 in South Korea

  • Forest disturbances including forest fire, insect pests and diseases, landslides, and forest conversion from 1976 to 2005 were investigated to trace the changes of major forest disturbance agents and their characteristics over time in accordance with changes in natural and social environment in South Korea. While the damaged area by insect pests and diseases continuously decreased for the past 30 years, damaged areas by forest fire and landslide were fluctuating through years. The interval of large forest fires has become shorter with increased tree volume. The precipitation between January and April were significantly correlated with large fire occurrences as Pearson's correlation coefficient -0.400 (P=0.029). The composition of major insect pests and diseases damaging Korean forests has been changed continuously, and become more diversified. While damages by pine caterpillar (Dendrolimus spectabilis) and pine needle gall midge (Thecodiplosis japonensis) decreased, damage by introduced pests has been more serious recently. The change of precipitation pattern that brought more localized heavy rain or powerful typhoon resulted in the recent increase in landslide areas. The major land uses to induce forest conversion have been changed, reflecting the changes in industrial structure in South Korea as agriculture and mining in 1970s, mining and golf ranges classified in pasture in 1980s, and road and housing construction in 1990s and 2000s. Changes in forest disturbance patterns in South Korea show that a country's industrial development is jointly working with global warming on forest stand dynamics. Altering energy structure and land use pattern induced by industrial development accumulates forest volume and reforms microenvironments on forest floor, interacting with climate change, inducing shorter interval of large forest fire and changes in major species composition of forest insect pests and diseases.

금대봉 산림유전자원보호림의 하층식생 분포양상 (Distributional Patterns of Understory Vegetation at Mt. Geumdae's Protected Area for Forest Genetic Resources)

  • 본 연구는 금대봉 산림유전자원보호림의 희귀식물 및 유용 식물자원의 분포실태와 상층식생의 군집구조에 따른 하층식생의 분포양상을 파악하기 위하여 수행되었다. 금대봉 산림유전자원보호림지역내 출현하고 있는 관속식물상은 모두 59과 160속 218종류로 확인되었으며, 산림청 지정 희귀식물은 나도개감채, 연령초, 말나리, 노랑무늬붓꽃, 홀아비바람꽃, 금강제비꽃 등 6종류가 분포하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 전 지역에 걸쳐 대규모 군락지 형태의 분포양상을 나타내는 홀아비바람꽃 등 8종류의 초본종과 소규모 패치상 또는 적은 개체수가 흩어져 출현하는 나도잠자리난 등 15종류의 초본종이 유용 식물자원인 것으로 판단되었다. 한편, 금대봉 산림유전자원보호림의 현존식생은 하층식생의 분포양상을 파악하기 위하여 설정한 방형구의 조사자료를 기준으로 유집분석한 결과 상층식생의 군집은 신갈나무 우점 군집, 일본잎갈나무 우점 군집, 그리고 과거 산림벌채와 풍충성 고산지대의 영향으로 인한 초본식생 우점 군집으로 분류되었다. 하층식생의 분포양상은 임분 내 상층 및 중층식생의 군집구조와 어느 정도 연관성을 갖는 것으로 나타났지만, 다른 한편으로 교란에 따른 입지적 특성과 하층식생의 종 조성의 차이 및 경쟁압력으로 인하여 상당한 차이를 보였다. 따라서 산림유전자원인 주요 하층 식생의 보존을 위해서 상층식생의 밀도조절 등으로 인해 야기되는 하층식생의 동태 및 생육환경의 변화를 정확하게 파악 한 후 간벌 등 산림시업처리를 실행하는 것이 바람직할 것으로 판단되었다.
