Due to a recent growth of the area of MEMS and a trend moving toward smaller scale, a micro manufacturing that is usually related with lithography is now emerging. Differently from traditional manufacturing processes, the micro or miniature manufacturing usually requires expensive sophisticated equipments and its characteristics are of high cost and of low productivity. However, a miniature stamping, which makes small sized product with a thin metal usually in the range of meso-scale, can be realized in a low cost and in a high productivity with relatively inexpensive equipments. For a successful development of miniature stamping, lots of obstacles, including material properties related with formability, have to be overcome. Since the thin metal shows distinctive characteristics, e.g., size effect and statistically scattered material properties, the formability of miniature stamping is not good in general and the possible shape with the miniature stamping is limited relatively simple shapes. Since the optimal blank improves formability and the improved formability can make up for problems of material properties, the possibility of success can be increased. This study is carried out to show the possibility of miniature stamping and to verify the effect of optimal blank for the miniature stamping.

In this paper, the influence of the stamping effect is investigated in the performance analysis of a side structure. The analysis covers the performance evaluation such as the crashworthiness and NVH. Stamping analyses are carried out for the center pillar and the side sill made of high strength steels. Then, numerical simulations are carried out in order to identify the stamping effect on the crashworthiness, the natural frequency and the normal mode. The result shows that the analysis of the side structure considering the forming history leads to a different result from that without considering the forming effect. The variation of the system response fully reveals effects of thinning and hardening of members on the performance prediction of vehicle parts. The analysis results demonstrate that the design of auto-body members should be carried out considering the stamping history for accurate assessment of various performances.
This study is to investigate the effects of cold forming method with steel sheet of SCP3C to improve continuous productivity. Experiments were carried out in various working conditions, such as the number of stamping and the punch temperature. The effects of the punch temperature and the number of stamping on drawability of steel sheet of SCP3C as well as clearance and draw-in in the number of stamping were examined and discussed. More improvement of continuous productivity in case of cold stamping rather than by conventional stamping at room temperature is obtained. The optimum forming condition for drawing trunk floor panel of SCP3C is shown as the punch is cooled by coolant of $-5^{\circ}C$ and at the same time both the die and the blankholder are heated by stamping and frictional heat.
Partial-hardened hot stamping has been well known to be very effective to absorb more energy in automotive lateral crash. Hardness distribution and dimensional change after partial-hardened hot stamping have been studied to find out effect of thermal deformation of the heated hot stamping die on dimensional accuracy of automotive center pillar. Soft zone of commercial center pillar showed 275~345 in Vickers hardness, indicating bigger non-uniformity which resulted from thermal deformation of heated die. Dimensional changes in soft zone of the commercial center pillar measured by three dimensional scanner were much bigger than that in hard zone. It has been found that hot stamping die compensation considering thermal deformation in soft zone causes a significant decrease in hardness deviation in the soft zone, corresponding to 20 percent of commercial center pillar and subsequently leads to much higher dimensional accuracy.
Hot stamping, which is the hot pressing of special steel sheet using a cold die, can combine ease of shaping with high strength mechanical properties due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching. In this paper, a thermo-mechanical analysis of hot stamping using the finite element method in conjunction with phase transformations was performed in order to investigate the plastic deformation behavior, temperature history, and mechanical properties of the stamped car part. We also conducted a fully coupled thermo-mechanical analysis during the stamping and rapid quenching process to obtain the mechanical properties with the consideration of the effects of plastic deformation and phase transformation on the temperature histories at each point in the part. The finite element analysis could provide key information concerning the temperature histories and the sheet mechanical properties when the phase transformation is properly considered. Such an analysis can also be used to determine the effect of cyclic cooling on the tooling.
In this study, the effect of laser source($CO_2$ and Nd:YAG) on the microstructure and tensile properties of laser welded Al-Si coated boron steel(1.2mmt) was investigated with before and after hot-stamping. In case of as welds condition, fracture occurred in base metal unrelated to the laser source. It could be explained that tensile strength of fusion zone composed of martensite and bainite is higher than that of base metal that contains a lot of ferrite despite dilution of Al and Si from coating layer to fusion zone. In case of hot-stamping condition, the fracture occurred in fusion zone irrelevant to laser source and the tensile strength was lower than hot stamped base metal. In the $CO_2$ laser welds, $Fe_3$(Al,Si) formed near the bond line was transformed into ferrite during hot-stamping. Therefore tensile strength of bond line is lower than that of base metal and center of fusion zone and the fracture occurred in the bond line. On the other hand, in the Nd:YAG laser welds, the higher concentration of Al formed the ferrite in the fusion zone during hot-stamping treatment. Also, the thickness of centerline was thinner than that of base metal. Therefore, it is considered that fracture occurred in centerline of fusion zone due to effect of concentration stress, and it leaded to a lower tensile strength and elongation.

A fracture was generated by change of clearance and deterioration of material properties on the sheet metal through temperature. This paper describes the results of a prediction about the temperature of the sheet metal during continuous stamping process, because the temperature increase of the sheet metal has a detrimental effect on formability. To analyze the temperature increase of the sheet metal during continuous stamping process, tensile and friction tests were performed from room temperature to 300$^{\circ}C$ at warm condition in this study. As temperature increase, tensile strength, elongation, strain hardening exponent and anisotropy coefficient for each specimens were decreased. On the other hand, friction coefficients were increased. From the FE-simulation results, temperature upward tendency was identified on dies and sheet metal. These observations are rationalized on the basis of the material properties, friction coefficient vs. temperature relationship for the sheet.

To examine the residual stress field resulting from stamping process for the lower control arm of a car, the explicit finite element analysis is performed for the stamping process by way of the ABAQUS Explicit. The residual stress is obtained in terms of the Von Mises stress and other parameters such as equivalent plastic strain, the change of blank thickness, the final configuration of the blank and the spring back effect are also considered. Moreover, discussed is the convergence of the explicit FEM versus the punch sped and the element discretization

The Hot Stamping process, which is the hot pressing of steel parts using cold dies. can utilize both case of shaping and high strength due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching during the pressing. We carried out experiments of quenching rate and tempering treatments at temperatures of $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$ and different soaking times. Tn this study, the mechanical properties and microstructure of micro boron alloyed steels after heat treatments are compared.
