The effect of sheet steel properties and lubrication on the optimal range of blank holding force of stamping processes (프레스가공의 최적 성형범위에 미치는 강판특성 및 윤활조건의 영향)

  • The effect of sheet steel properties and lubrication on the optimal range of blank holding force (BHF) was investigated by means of the model die stamping of various sheet steels. The optimal range of blank holding force was expressed as the range between the lower BHF at flange wrinkling and the upper BHF at local necking. It showed that mechanical properties, thickness of sheet steel and lubrication condition were important factors affecting the optimal range of BHF in sheet steels. Especially, lubrication played an important role in the case of coasted sheet steels.

  • Fine blanking is a high-precision process combining principles of metal stamping and cold forming. Unlike conventional metal stamping, fine blanking uses a special triple action such as V-ring force, counter force, shearing force. This study performed the effect of pocket-shaped compression molding on the mold life of the fine blanking using the 7.4mm thick SM45C material. In order to determine the lifespan of the punch and die in the fine blanking molds, a trial mold was manufactured and various punch materials were selected to perform the mold life test. A study on the life of a fine blanking mold by applying a thick plate material was experimentally performed through a mold test.

A Study on Design Automation of Cooling Channels in Hot Form Press Die Based on CATIA CAD System (CATIA CAD 시스템 기반 핫폼금형의 냉각수로 설계 자동화에 관한 연구)

  • This paper focuses on the development of a support system that can rapidly generate the design data of a hot-form die with cooling channels, commonly known as hot stamping technology. We propose a new process for designing hot-form dies based on our (automated) system, whose main features are derived from the analysis of the design requirements and design process in the current industry. Our design support system consists of two modules, which allow for the generation of a 3D geometry model and its 2D drawings. The module for 3D modeling automation is implemented as a type of CATIA template model based on CATIA V5 Knowledgeware. This module automatically creates a 3D model of a hot-form die, including the cooling channels, that depends on the shape of the forming surface and the number of STEELs (subsets of die product) and cooling channels. It also allows for both the editing of the positions and orientations of the cooling channels and testing for the purpose of satisfying the constraints on the distance between the forming surface and cooling channels. Another module for the auto-generation of the 2D drawings is being developed as a plug-in using CAA (CATIA SDK) and Visual C++. Our system was evaluated using the S/W test based on a user defined scenario. As a result, it was shown that it can generate a 3D model of a hot form die and its 2D drawings with hole tables about 29 times faster than the conventional manual method without any design errors.

  • The This research paper deals with research on the 3D strip layout design of HEV UV terminal by utilizing the Cimatron Die Design, an automation module. To ensure smooth stamping of the product, strip layout was corrected for 33.5 degrees of slope, and blank layout of the double-width, 1-line, 1-pull out inner carrier was then optimized as a single arrangement. To mass-produce two different terminals from one common die, 3D strip layout design and die design were completed in 29 different processes.

  • This paper concerns the die face design for a heat protect panel aided by the finite element forming analysis in order to eliminate the surface defect and to improve the surface quality. The CAE procedure of the stamping process is introduced in order to reveal the reason of surface inferiorities and to improve surface quality. Complicated shape of the product induces the surface inferiorities such as wrinkling due to the insufficient restraining force of the forming blank and the non-uniform contact of the blank with the tools. This paper proposes a new guideline for the die design which includes the modification of tool shapes and addition of the draw-beads on the tool surface for ensuring the increased the restraining force with the uniform contact condition. The effectiveness of the proposed design is verified by the forming analysis and is confirmed by the tryout operation in the press shop. The analysis and test results show that the modified process parameters such as tool shapes and draw-beads can reduce the tendency of wrinkling and improve surface quality.

  • Seats in autonomous vehicles must be able to rotate to fully utilize the interior space. Generally, ultra-high strength steel is used for the rotation module because it should have high strength and high rigidity. In addition, the rotating parts are difficult to form because they have complex shapes. In this study, the upper plate of the rotating module, whose complex shape makes it difficult to form, was formed by applying the hot stamping method. The drawing method and the form-drawing method, which are generally used to form components of complex shapes, were compared. We showed that the form-drawing method increased the degree of freedom of the material flow to improve the formability, thus enabling the forming of the plate. In addition, the die and blank shapes were found to be important factors in determining the success of the hot stamping. The validity of the analysis results was confirmed through forming analysis and experiments.

  • 역설계란 제품에서부터 역으로 그것의 수학적인 형상을 얻는 기법이다. 생산현장과 설계분야에서 역설계의 응용사례는 많다. 예를 들면 자동차 외형설계자는 자유곡면(free form)을 만들고, 이것 에서 역으로 스템핑 다이(stamping die)를 가공한다. 물론 외형 설계자는 자유곡면을 생성하기 위해 스틸이나 커크사이트(kirtsite)보다는 원하는 형상을 만들기 쉬운 진흙을 사용한다. 생산부 서에서는 가공물의 설계도가 분실되거나 훼손되어 완성된 제품에서 도면이 복사되어야 할 경우가 생기게 된다. 역설계는 복제가 요구되는 어떤 형상도 적용이 가능하다. 응용대상은 특히 완구, 인조팔, 스템핑다이, 폼 블록(from block), 욕조기, 가구, 일상용품 등이며 적용대상은 광범위하다. 역설계는 설계자가 습득해야 할 필요기술이고, 현재의 CAD/CAM 적용영역을 새로운 세계로 확대시킬 것이다.

  • Springback simulation is receiving increasing attention throughout the automotive industry and the academic world. The knowledge of the real springback of stamped parts can help the stamping technicians to modify the process parameters or die geometry in order to reduce the shape defect. This paper presents the results of springback simulation after aluminium square cup deep drawing and trimming simulation, and results of springback optimization using response surface method.

  • Springback after forming is the critical factor affecting the product quality. It is very difficult to predict the amount of springback not only because of complex geometry and material characteristics of the stamping product but because the methodology has not been established. In this study springback mechanism is introduced and experimental tryout and computer simulation are carried out for die design of automotive rear side frame. Futher springback was verified by comparing the result of computer simulation with the measured tryout result.
