Fusion of decisions in wireless sensor networks having flexibility on energy efficiency is studied in this paper. Two representative distributions, the generalized Gaussian and $\alpha$-stable probability density functions, are used to model non-Gaussian noise channels. By incorporating noise channels into the parallel fusion model, the optimal fusion rules are represented and suboptimal fusion rules are derived by using a large signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) approximation. For both distributions, the obtained suboptimal fusion rules are same and have equivalent form to the Chair-Varshney fusion rule(CVR). Thus, the CVR does not depend on the behavior of noise distributions that belong to the generalized Gaussian and $\alpha$-stable probability density functions. The simulation results show the suboptimality of the CVR at large SNRs.

Wireless sensor networks consist of numerous small-sized nodes equipped with limited computing power and storage as well as energy-limited disposable batteries. In this networks, nodes are deployed in a large given area and communicate with each other in short distances via wireless links. For energy efficient networks, dynamic clustering protocol is an effective technique to achieve prolonged network lifetime, scalability, and load balancing which are known as important requirements. this technique has a characteristic that sensing data which gathered by many nodes are aggregated by cluster head node. In the case of cluster head node is exposed by attacker, there is no guarantee of safe and stable network. Therefore, for secure communications in such a sensor network, it is important to be able to encrypt the messages transmitted by sensor nodes. Especially, cluster based sensor networks that are designed for energy efficient, strongly recommended suitable key management and authentication methods to guarantee optimal stability. To achieve secured network, we propose a key management scheme which is appropriate for hierarchical sensor networks. Proposed scheme is based on polynomial key pool pre-distribution scheme, and sustain a stable network through key authentication process.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for character recognition using the subdivided type and the stable structure information. The subdivided type of character is acquired from the stable structure information of character which is extracted from an input character. Firstly, the character is obtained from a scanner and classified into on of 6 types by using directional density vector. And then, the stable structure information is extracted from each character and the character is subdivided into on of 26 types. Finally, the classified character is recognized by using neural network which is inputted the directional density vector equivalent to JASO area or recognized direct. Aa a result of experiment with KS C 5601 2350 printed Hangeul characters, we obtain the recognition rate of 94%.

Ad hoc networks are a type of mobile network that function without any fixed infrastructure. One of the weaknesses of ad hoc network is that a route used between a source and a destination is to break during communication. To solve this problem, one approach consists of selecting routes whose nodes have the most stable link cost. This paper proposes a method for improving the low power distributed MAC. This method is based on the context awareness of the each nodes energy in clustering. We propose to select a new scheme to optimize energy conserving between the clustering nodes in MANET. And this architecture scheme would use context-aware considering the energy related information such as energy, RF strength, relative distances between each node in mobile ad hoc networks. The proposed networks scheme could get better improve the awareness for data to achieve and performance on their clustering establishment and messages transmission. Also, by using the context aware computing, according to the condition and the rules defined, the sensor nodes could adjust their behaviors correspondingly to improve the network routing.
In this paper, we present a virtual laboratory platform (VLP) baptized Mercury allowing students to make practical work (PW) on different aspects of mobile wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Our choice of WSNs is motivated mainly by the use of real experiments needed in most courses about WSNs. These experiments require an expensive investment and a lot of nodes in the classroom. To illustrate our study, we propose a course related to energy efficient and safe weighted clustering algorithm. This algorithm which is coupled with suitable routing protocols, aims to maintain stable clustering structure, to prevent most routing attacks on sensor networks, to guaranty energy saving in order to extend the lifespan of the network. It also offers a better performance in terms of the number of re-affiliations. The platform presented here aims at showing the feasibility, the flexibility and the reduced cost of such a realization. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithms that contribute to the familiarization of the learners in the field of WSNs.
Forwarding in opportunistic networks shows low performance because there may be no connecting paths between the source and the destination nodes due to the intermittent connectivity. Currently, social network analysis has been researched. Specifically, similarity is one of methods of social networks analysis. In this paper, we propose forwarding schemes based on representative similarities, and evaluate how much the forwarding performance increases. As a result, since the forwarding schemes are based on similarities, these schemes only forward messages to nodes with higher similarity as relay nodes, toward the destination node. These schemes have low network traffic and hop count while having stable transmission delay.

For enhancing the coverage of wireless networks and increasing the spectrum efficiency, small cell networks (SCNs) are considered to be one of the most prospective schemes. Most of the existing literature on resource allocation among non-cooperative small cell base stations (SBSs) has widely drawn close attention and there are only a small number of the cooperative ideas in SCNs. Based on the motivation, we further investigate the cooperative approach, which is formulated as a coalition formation game with power control algorithm (CFG-PC). First, we formulate the downlink sub-channel resource allocation problem in an SCN as a coalition formation game. Pareto order and utilitarian order are applied to form coalitions respectively. Second, to achieve more availability and efficiency power assignment, we expand and solve the power control using particle swarm optimization (PSO). Finally, with our proposed algorithm, each SBS can cooperatively work and eventually converge to a stable SBS partition. As far as the transmit rate of per SBS and the system rate are concerned respectively, simulation results indicate that our proposed CFG-PC has a significant advantage, relative to a classical coalition formation algorithm and the non-cooperative case.
Cognitive radio (CR) is considered an attractive technology to deal with the spectrum scarcity problem. Multi-radio access technology (multi-RAT) can improve network capacity because data are transmitted by multiple RANs (radio access networks) concurrently. Thus, multi-RAT embedded in a cognitive radio network (CRN) is a promising paradigm for developing spectrum efficiency and network capacity in future wireless networks. In this study, we consider a new CRN model in which the primary user networks consist of heterogeneous primary users (PUs). Specifically, we focus on the energy-efficient resource allocation (EERA) problem for CR users with a special location coverage overlapping region in which heterogeneous PUs operate simultaneously via multi-RAT. We propose a two-tier crossover genetic algorithm-based search scheme to obtain an optimal solution in terms of the power and bandwidth. In addition, we introduce a radio environment map to manage the resource allocation and network synchronization. The simulation results show the proposed algorithm is stable and has faster convergence. Our proposal can significantly increase the energy efficiency.

In this paper, we investigate the differential game theoretic approach for distributed dynamic cooperative power control in cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRANETs). First, a payoff function is defined by taking into consideration the tradeoff between the stock of accumulated power interference to the primary networks and the dynamic regulation of the transmit power of secondary users (SUs). Specifically, the payoff function not only reflects the tradeoff between the requirement for quickly finding the stable available spectrum opportunities and the need for better channel conditions, but also reveals the impact of the differentiated types of data traffic on the demand of transmission quality. Then the dynamic power control problem is modeled as a differential game model. Moreover, we convert the differential game model into a dynamic programming problem to obtain a set of optimal strategies of SUs under the condition of the grand coalition. A distributed dynamic cooperative power control algorithm is developed to dynamically adjust the transmit power of SUs under grand coalition. Finally, numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for efficient power control in CRANETs.

One inevitable problem in Ad Hoc networks is the limited battery capacity, which explains why portable devices might shut down suddenly when the power of hardware is depleted. Hence, how to decrease the power consumption is an important issue in ad hoc networks. With the development of wireless technology, mobile devices can transmit voices, surf the Internet, download entertaining stuffs, and even support some P2P applications, like sharing real-time streaming. In order to keep the quality stable, the transmission must be continuous and it is thus necessary to select some managers to coordinate all nodes in a P2P community. In addition to assigning jobs to the staffs (children) when needed, these managers (ancestors) are able to reappoint jobs in advance when employees retire. This paper proposed a mechanism called Cluster-based Power Management (CPM) to stabilize the transmissions and increase Time to Live (TTL) of mobile hosts. In our new proposed method, we establish the clusters according to every node's joining order and capability, and adjust their sleep time dynamically through three different mathematical models. Our simulation results reveal that this proposed scheme not only reduces the power consumption efficiently, but also increases the total TTLs evidently.
