On the hydrodynamic resistance and stabilization of the coonstripe shrimp pot to reduce catch of a small size shrimp (자원관리형 반구형 새우통발의 형상 변화에 따른 유체저항 특성과 수중안정성)

  • For the optimal design of a shrimp pot to control the catch size and to reduce catch the small size shrimp, tank experiments were carried out to study the pot stability under water. Tank experiments were carried out to measure the drag with 4 kinds of model pots that have 50% selection on the individual of 25mm carapace length. The drag of each pot was measured every 10 times with changing the current speeds from 0.1m/s to 0.7m/s in 0.1m/s intervals and the pot attack angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$ in $15^{\circ}$ interval in a flume tank. The relation between the current speed and drag was presented. The stability of pot was estimated using the drag data and the friction data of Kim et al. (2008b). The results showed that, the drag was shown lower as small as the projected area of pot depending on the current speeds and angles. The model pots were showed to slide on the seabed in case of rock at the current speeds 0.35-0.38m/s and the possibility of turn over at the current speeds 0.77-0.89m/s. In conclusion, the stability of a shrimp pot showed more stable as the pot of the lower the height and the smaller projected area on current.

Chemically modulated polystyrene surface using various ion beam exposure time for liquid crystal alignment of high brightness mobile display (고휘도 휴대용 디스플레이를 위한 액정소자의 폴리스타일렌 배향막에 관한 연구)

  • This paper introduces homogeneous liquid crystal (LC) orientations on chemically modulated polystyrene (PS) surfaces using various ion beam (IB) exposure time. Transparent PS was replaced with conventional polyimde material. Especially, PS has higher transparent property than conventional polyimide thin film and it means PS is more suitable material for producing high brightness mobile LCD. As a non-contact process, IB bombardment process induced LC orientation in the direction parallel to the IB process. Through x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, it was shown that the chemical compositional changes of the IB-irradiated PS surfaces were determined as a function of IB exposure time. Using this analysis, the optimal IB bombardment condition was determined at IB exposure time of up to 15 s. Moreover, thermal stability on IB-irradiated PS surfaces were carried out which showed that a relatively high IB exposure time induced a thermally stable LC alignment property. And it has a highly potential of mobile high transparent mobile LCD such as smart phone display and mobile information device.

Microbe Adhesion and Organic Removal from Synthetic Wastewater Treatment using Polypropylene Media Modified by Ion-Assisted Reactions (이온 보조 반응에 의하여 활성화된 폴리프로필렌 담체를 이용만 합성폐수 처리시 미생물 부착 및 유기물의 제거)

  • The surface of polypropylene was modified by 1 keV $Ar^+$ ion beam in an $O_2$ environment in order to enhance wettability. Contact angle of deionized water on modified polypropylene was reduced from $78^{\circ}$to $22^{\circ}$. The enhanced wettability is originated from newly formed functional groups such as ether, carbonyl, and carbonyl groups. During immersion in deionized water, the enhanced wettability has remained nearly same. After washing in water, the hydrophilic functional groups on the polymer surface have been very stable. The modified polypropylene was adopted as bio-film media to remove organics in synthetic wastewater. Microbe adhesion on the polypropylene surface was improved due to the newly formed hydrophilic groups.

A Study on Ignition Characteristic with Supply Leading Time of Propellants in Liquid Rocket Engine (액체 로켓 엔진에 있어서 추진제 공급 선점 시간에 따른 점화 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Experimental studies on determination of the supply leading time of propellants to combustion chamber have been made to stably and efficiently guarantee the ignitions process with liquid rocket engine. The propellant used is a Kerosene as fuel and a liquid oxygen as oxidizer. FOOF type of three injectors are set with an angle of 135。 and the combustion chamber pressure is 200psi. The present experiment program also includes the stability on the quadlet type of ignitor using the triehylaluminum (TEAL) as an ignition source. Experimental results clarifies that the propellant supply through LOx leading to combustion chamber is proper for stable ignition and combustion processes based on the fuel and oxidizer manifold pressures, combustion chamber pressure, and the variation of flame length from the nozzle exit with lapse time, and shows that the leading supply time pf propellants effects the engine performance little.

Geometrically Invariant Image Watermarking Using Connected Objects and Gravity Centers

  • The design of geometrically invariant watermarking is one of the most challenging work in digital image watermarking research area. To achieve the robustness to geometrical attacks, the inherent characteristic of an image is usually used. In this paper, a geometrically invariant image watermarking scheme using connected objects and gravity center is proposed. First, the gray-scale image is converted into the binary one, and the connected objects according to the connectedness of binary image are obtained, then the coordinates of these connected objects are mapped to the gray-scale image, and the gravity centers of those bigger objects are chosen as the feature points for watermark embedding. After that, the line between each gravity center and the center of the whole image is rotated an angle to form a sector, and finally the same version of watermark is embedded into these sectors. Because the image connectedness is topologically invariant to geometrical attacks such as scaling and rotation, and the gravity center of the connected object as feature points is very stable, the watermark synchronization is realized successfully under the geometrical distortion. The proposed scheme can extract the watermark information without using the original image or template. The simulation results show the proposed scheme has a good invisibility for watermarking application, and stronger robustness than previous feature-based watermarking schemes against geometrical attacks such as rotation, scaling and cropping, and can also resist common image processing operations including JPEG compression, adding noise, median filtering, and histogram equalization, etc.

  • Indoor hydrant facilities are used to fight initial fires before more intense fire extinguishing activities. Fire extinguishing facilities should ensure good fire extinguishing performance and the safety of users. Indoor hydrant facilities are mostly installed in buildings and facilities, and users must manipulate valves, hoses, and nozzles manually. When the discharge pressure is higher than 0.70 MPa, there is a high possibility that problems with manipulation and hose breakdown can occur. To prevent these problems, a method to attach orifice-type decompression valves to the angle valves of indoor hydrant discharge outlets has frequently been used for decompression methods. However, the decompression performance was reduced due to structural problems of the decompression valves over time. Accordingly, based on three-stage initial pressures, applicable pressure ranges were selected by measuring the decompression performance according to the diameter of the decompression orifices. Based on the data, stable decompression valve models are proposed. These models have the lowest decrease in decompression performance, regardless of time.

Lead-free Solder for Automotive Electronics and Reliability Evaluation of Solder Joint (자동차 전장용 무연솔더 및 솔더 접합부의 신뢰성 평가)

  • Automotive today has been transforming to an electronic product by adopting a lot of convenience and safety features, suggesting that joining materials and their mechanical reliabilities are getting more important. In this study, a Sn-Cu-Cr-Ca solder composition having a high melting temperature ($>230^{\circ}C$) was fabricated and its joint properties and reliability was investigated with an aim to evaluate the suitability as a joining material for electronics of engine room. Furthermore, mechanical properties change under complex environment were compared with several existing solder compositions. As a result of contact angle measurement, favorable spreadability of 84% was shown and the average shear strength manufactured with corresponding composition solder paste was $1.9kg/mm^2$. Also, thermo-mechanical reliability by thermal shock and vibration test was compared with that of the representative high temperature solder materials such as Sn-3.5Ag, Sn-0.7Cu, and Sn-5.0Sb. In order to fabricate the test module, solder balls were made in joints with ENIG-finished BGA and then the BGA chip was reflowed on the OPS-finished PCB pattern. During the environmental tests, resistance change was continuously monitored and the joint strength was examined after tests. Sn-3.5Ag alloy exhibited the biggest degradation rate in resistance and shear stress and Sn-0.7Cu resulted in a relatively stable reliability against thermo-mechanical stress coming from thermal shock and vibration.

Neural Network PID Controller for Angle and Speed Control of Two Wheeled Inverted Pendulum Robot (이륜 역진자 로봇의 각도 및 속도 제어를 위한 신경회로망 PID 제어기)

  • In this paper, a controller for two wheeled inverted pendulum robot, i.e., Segway type robot that is a convenient and easily handled vehicle is designed to have more stable balancing and faster velocity control compared to the conventional method. First, a widely used PID control structure is applied to the two wheeled inverted pendulum robot and proper PID control gains for some specified weights of users are obtained to get accurate balancing and velocity control by use of experimental trial-and-error method. Next, neural network is employed to generate appropriate PID control gains for arbitrarily selected weight. Here the PID gains based on the trial-and-error method are used as training data. Simulation study has been carried out to find that the performance of the designed controller using the neural network is more excellent than the conventional PID controller in terms of faster balancing and velocity control.

  • Recently, navigation systems based on wireless communication have been applied to the internal structures such as building or ship. If a stable azimuth information is obtained, these systems can effectively guide the direction of the user's progress through the information and then can improve the performance of guidance. Since conventional method which has acquired an azimuth information using geomagnetic and acceleration sensor(azimuth sensor hereafter) is sensitive to the effects of the magnetic field, it has unstable error range according to the surrounding environment. In order to improve these problems, this paper presents a new relative azimuth estimation algorithm using the displacement of a mobile node and its rotation angle based on Wireless communication. For the performance assessment of the proposed algorithm, experiments using rotating arm are performed and the results are confirmed that the proposed system can estimate the relative azimuth without using additional sensors.

  • The steel members are applied to high rise building since they have high strength compare to the concrete member. On the other hand, the elastic buckling is likely to occur in steel member because of their small section. When the elastic buckling occur, the steel structure lose a load carrying capacity. The steel frame would be unstable due to a rapid decline in strength by buckling. The purpose of this study is the development of FLD(Force Limiting Device) to prevent a elastic buckling for a slender member. Further, the behavior of steel structures with FLD would be stable by high energy absorption capacity. The proposed type of FLD is the type of out-of-plane resistance. In this study, member test and FEM analysis for proposed type were performed. The test parameters are thickness and gradient angle of out-of-plane plate. The proposed type may be effective method for FLD.
