This study was carried out to investigate the morphological characteristics of the plants and seeds of Ainsliaea acerifolia and to determine the optimum condition for producing sprouts from the seeds. Plant height, flower stalk length, and pod number were higher in natural habitat than in campus farm. Average 1.2 seeds per pod was set but only 0 to 2 seeds per plant was set in plants with the enveloped flower stalks, indicating that this is an outcrossing species. Most of seeds were 9-11mm long and 1.1-1.4mm wide. Fresh weight of seeds was ranged from 10mg to 17mg. Seeds germinated well at 15$^{\circ}C$ and 2$0^{\circ}C$. Mean germination period was 11.5 day at 15 to $25^{\circ}C$. Sprouts grown at 15$^{\circ}C$ was longest(5.4cm) and heaviest(738mg/10 sprouts). Chlorophyll content was 333mg per fresh weight 110g. Protein, Fe, vitamin Bl, vitamin B2, and vitamin C were respectively 23.7mg, 6.4mg, 1.82mg, 0.49mg, and 10..7mg.
This study examined the irradiation effect of high energy x-rays on the growth of sprout plants seeds. particularly with regard to acidity, salinity and sugar content change. The experimental groups were one day old sprout plants seeds irradiated with 6MV x-rays at doses of 2, 5, 8, 10 Gy using a linear accelerator. The control group was not irradiated. After two weeks, sprout plants were grown and harvested for component analysis. The acidity of the x-ray irradiated radish and red radish groups were significantly higher than that of the control group and bok choi and buckwheat groups lower than that of the control group. The salinity and sugar content of the x-ray irradiated 5 groups were significantly lower than that of the control group and Soybean and Red radish groups higher than that of the control group. The cause of plants component change were estimated to have occurred by generate basic ions and radiation sensitivity by moisture content. Further genetic studies will be needed to confirm the correlation between high energy x-rays and the cause of plants component change.

The changes of carnitine levels including nonesterified-carnitine(NEC), acid-soluble acylcarnitine(ASAC) and total carnitine (TC) were investigated in developing soybean sprouts. The concentrations of carnitines were determined in ungerminated and germinated soybean seeds, and in dissected axis segments and cotyledone of the germinated sprouts. Soybean seeds contain 136 nmol of TC per gram dry weight. the contents of NEC, ASAC, and TC were increased during the germination of soybean seeds. The concentrations of NEC and ASAC were highest in cotyledone and inmeristematic tissues, respectively. These data indicate that developmental differences of carnitine levels do exist in plants, and that in delveoping soybean sprouts the levels of NEC and ASAC are highest in the cotyledone and in the youngest meristem, respectively.

Biofuctionality of soybean seeds and soy-bean products have been fortified by the uncovering of the multifuctional beneficial effects of isoflavones. As one way to fully utilize beneficial effects of isoflavones in soybean sprout is through the enhancement of isoflavone contents in soybean seeds, genetic selection for higher isoflavone and cultivational measures to increase isoflavone content in soybean seeds were attempted. Isoflavones (daidzein, gemstein) contents in soybean seeds and soybean sprouts were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. Total isoflavone contents in soybean seeds ranged from 756 to $1,682{\mu}g/g$ and Iksan #13 $(1,682{\mu}g/g)$ showed highest content among the 21 germplasms analyzed. Onetime treatment of soybean plants with Antipol or Piaster at the $V_4$ stage yielded seeds with higher isoflavones as $2,472{\mu}g/g\;or\;2,052{\mu}g/g$, respectively, which were higher by 37% and 14% than that of seeds in the control plants, respectively. In Eunhakong, Isoflavone contents of soybean sprout changed during sprouting. Daidzein content in hypocotyl increased to maximum on the third day of cultivation and decreased there-after, whereas the content changed little in cotyledon. In sprouts of Pungsannamulkong, daidzein content in hypocotyl showed a maximum level on the first day and decreased gradually thereafter but, the content changed little in cotyledon. Total isoflavone contents in lateral roots which developed on the 6th day after sprouting ranged from 4,416 to $5,232{\mu}g/g$ DW.

The hipped roof on the research building, which was constructed 51.9m above sea level on a hillock by Korea National University of Education in June 1999, is composed of four inclined planes which are 12m in breadth, 8m in length and have a 30 degree gradient. For the roof vegetation, the yellow earth collected from around the building was laid on top. It was designed to supply the soil on the slope with water for a considerable period by making rainfall pool at the edges. In order to prevent the soil on the slope from being swept away, 31 sorts of grass seeds were imported from Germany and sown in the soil. At the present day, 10 years after the seeds began to sprout and inhabit the settled slope, 30 individual plant species were identified in the period between April 2008 and March 2009. Out of 31 species were seeded on the slanted, soiled roof, only 8 were still alive. It was confirmed that the Artemisia Princeps var, Chrysantheum, Prunella Vulgaris and Lespedeza Cuneata have been the major species inhabiting the east, west, south and north inclined planes respectively. The Phragmites Communis was inhabiting the edge of the roof where the water supply was adequate, while the Dianthus Barbatus was primarily inhabiting the south-east side of the roof. As a whole, 26 identifiable plants and 4 unidentified plants were observed on the inclined planes of the hipped roof. In consideration of the plant distribution on the slope, it was confirmed that the selection of seeds may have had an effect on the slope vegetation. As for the yellow earth laid on the roof, it was discovered that about 2~3cm thickness around the ridge was swept away, but the rest of the slope was in relatively good condition. Accordingly, it has been proven that vegetations can be applied to hipped roofs by using ordinary plants without any special structural measures.
All the seeds of rape (Brassica napus) sprout vegetables were germinated within three days after seeding irrelevant to the light colors. The total fresh weight of rape sprout vegetables at 6 days after seeding have been increased when grown under green and white color lights by 0.339g/10plants and 0.339g/10plants compared with the control. The total flavonoid contents in rape sprouts were increased under red and blue lights by 72.5 and 70.9mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$. Those DPPH radical scavenging activities at 2,000mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$ were increased by 90.0 and 90.3% which were sprouted and grown under blue and white lights. Nitrite radical scavenging activity of sprouts were most decreased compared with the control when grown under the red light by 57.4mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$. And mushroom tyrosinase inhibition activity of rape sprouts was extremely increased under the green light by 22.5mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$.
Soybean sprouts are the third-most consumed vegetable in Korea. Several studies on cultivation techniques, including use of medicinal plants extracts, have been performed to enhance the quality and yield of soybean sprouts. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of lacquer, a medicinal plant extract, on the yield and nutritional value of soybean sprouts. Linolenic acid content was significantly (p<0.05) increased in the sprouts produced by soaking seeds in lacquer extract diluted with equal volume of water. Lacquer extract significantly increased the flavonoid and phenolic contents (p<0.05). The content of total free amino acids, including ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid, was higher in lacquer extract-treated sprouts than in the untreated control. Results of this study suggest that lacquer extract could be used for enhancing the yield and nutritional values of soybean sprouts.

'Aram' is a soybean cultivar developed for soy-sprout. It was developed from the crossing of 'Bosug' (Glycine max IT213209) and 'Camp' (G. max IT267356) cultivars in 2007. F1 plants and F2 population were developed in 2009 and 2010. A promising line was selected in the F5 generation in 2011 using the pedigree method and it was evaluated for agronomic traits, yield, and soy-sprouts characteristics in a preliminary yield trial (PYT) in 2012 and an advanced yield trial (AYT) in 2013. Agronomic traits and yield were stable between 2014 and 2016 in the regional yield trial (RYT) in four regions (Suwon, Naju, Dalseong, and Jeju). Morphological characteristics of 'Aram' are as follows: determinate plant type, purple flowers, grey pubescence, yellow pods, and small, yellow, and spherical seeds (9.9 g 100-seeds-1) with a light brown hilum. The flowering date was the 5th of August and the maturity date was the 15th of October. Plant height, first pod height, number of nods, number of branches, and number of pods were 65 cm, 13 cm, 16, 4.5, and 99, respectively. In the sprout test, germination rate and sprout characteristics of 'Aram' were comparable to that of the 'Pungsannamulkong' cultivar. The yield of 'Aram' was 3.59 ton ha-1 and it was 12% higher than that of 'Pungsannamulkong' in southern area of Korea. The yield of 'Aram' in the Jeju region, which is the main region for soybean sprout production, was 20% higher than that of 'Pungsannamulkong'. The height of the first pod and the tolerance to lodging and pod shattering, which are connected to the adaptation to mechanized harvesting, were higher in 'Aram' compared to those in 'Pungsannamulkong'. Therefore, the 'Aram' cultivar is expected to be broadly cultivated because of its higher soybean sprout quality, and seed yield and better adaptation to mechanized harvesting. This study was carried out to investigate into the effect of light-emitting diode (LED) for the light quality as a light source on the broccoli seed germination and the physiological activity of vegetable sprouts. We have also germinated seeds of the broccoli and applied LED as a light quality such as blue, green, red, white, yellow and red + blue color lights to their sprouts for 14 hours and kept dark for 10 hours at the temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ (day)/$18^{\circ}C$ (night). Broccoli sprouts were extracted by methanol and their physiological activities were examined. All broccoli seeds were germinated at 3 days after seeding regardless of the light color. Total sprout fresh weight were mostly became highest by 0.389g (10 plants) at 8 days after seeding when their sprouts were grown under blue color light. Total phenol compound contents in broccoli sprouts were extremely increased by $83.0\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ under the white light, and total flavonoid contents were most much more by $72.6\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ under the blue light. DPPH radical scavenging activity at $2,000\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ were most highest by 93.5% in broccoli sprouts grown under the white light. Nitrite radical scavenging activity at the concentration of $500\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in sprout extracts were the most increased by 66.9% under the yellow light, and tyrosinase inhibition activity at $2,000\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in sprout extracts were by 14.5% under red light.
Buckwheat sprouts are a vegetable; a functional food should provide health benefit and enhance performance as high nutritionally important substances. Buckwheat noodles are the major buckwheat food in Japan, Korea and China. In addition, Buckwheat as preventive medicine has undergone a great advancement in the last decade. Comparison of the functional properties distribution and utilization in tatary buckwheat is required of understanding the metabolites. The study was conducted to identify the sorts of phenolic compounds and metabolites in tatary buckwheat seedling at 4, 7, and 10 days seedling under the different combinations of light-emitting diode (LED) such as blue, red, mix (red, blue, and white), dark, and natural lights in stem and leaves. After breaking the dormancy, buckwheat seeds were grown in culture room under lights for 14 hrs and the dark condition for 10 hrs, at $25^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. Length of buckwheat was gradually increased under all of the conditions. Using HPLC, rutin was highest at 7 days under mix and natural light in stem and leaf, respectively. Quercetin was highest at 4 and 7 days under natural light in both. Chlorogenic acid was highest at 7 days under mix and natural in stem and leaf, respectively. Taken Together, this study indicates that phenolic compounds and metabolites present in those plants could be helpful for the human health and nutritional additive.
