A vibrational model of powder transfer equipment based on the lumped parameter method was developed, in which the operating motion consists of surging, bouncing, and pitching. After decoupling the equation of motion, the vibrational excitation source of the pitching motion was removed. So the designers are able to plan the optimum design to adjust the motion trajectory of the powder transfer equipment. That is, a procedure to adjust the motion trajectory of powder transfer equipment by changing design specifications such as the installation position, the direction of the motor, the driving speed, the mass unbalance, the stiffness coefficient, and the installation position of the support spring, is presented in this paper. The powder transfer equipment manufactured according to the results of this study did not suffer fatigue destruction, since the maximum stress on the basket structure was sufficiently small.

The airframe ground vibration tests were conducted on the KC-100 aircraft according to the regulation requirement, KAS 23.629(a)(2) and the modal characteristics for the target modes were measured. To make FE model tuning, a design sensitivity approach with engineering judgment was implemented using MSC/Nastran and Attune, a genetic algorithm based parameter optimization software. Based on the comparison between initial prediction and test results, design variables such as beam cross-sectional properties and spring stiffnesses were devised. As the results, the correlation of the FE model to the GVT results was made appropriately, meeting the goal of matching the target frequencies within 5%.

A linear quarter model of a vehicle suspension system is built and simulated. Especially the so-called sensitivity analysis is conducted in order to show its applicability to design problems, and sensitivity function is determined in the frequency domain. The change of frequency response function is predicted, which depends on the design parameter variation and the property is verified by computer simulation. Typical performance measures, namely, sprung mass acceleration, suspension deflection, and tire deflection are examined. The vehicle model is analyzed for ist performance sensitivity as a function of the system's feedback gains. The variable feedback gains are selected as the spring and damping coefficients. Frequency response, RMS response, and performance index of the performance evaluation variables are considered and three-dimensional and contour plots of response surfaces are formed to examine output sensitivity to suspension feedback. Performance trade-offs over the entire frequency spectrum are identified from the FRF, and that between ride quality and handling characteristics are examined from the RMS responses.

Lever mechanisms are usually employed to enlarge output displacements in precision stages. In this study, theoretical analysis is done for a precision stage employing a lever and flexure hinges, including bending effect. This study presented relations between design parameters and magnification ratio. This study presents optimal values for the parameters to achieve a longer stage displacement. The analysis is verified by finite element analysis. It is found that adjusting stiffnesses can increase the travel range significantly.

The objective of this paper is to design stamping die of inner reinforcement panel with DL 950 advanced high strength steel as stamping materials through numerical analyses and experiments. The stamping process was designed as bending dominant process consisting of 1 step of notching and 4 steps of bending processes. In order to obtain a proper design of the stamping die, various three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analyses were performed using a commercial code AUTOFORM V4.2. Design parameter of stamping die was chosen as the corner radius of the stamping die for each step. From the results of the FE analysis, feasible corner radii of the stamping die, which can minimize the deviation of corner angle of the stamped part from design data, and forming load for each part were estimated. Stamping experiments were carried out using the manufactured stamping die according to the proposed die design. The results of experiments were shown that the stamping die can successfully manufacture the inner reinforcement panel with DL 950 advanced high strength steel as base stamping material.
In recent years, study of the static response of pavements to moving vehicle and aircraft loads has received significant attention because of its relevance to the design of pavements and airport runways. The static response of beams resting on an elastic foundation and subjected to moving loads was studied by several researchers in the past. However, most of these studies were limited to steady-state analytical solutions for infinitely long beams resting on Winkler-type elastic foundations. Although the modelling of subgrade as a continuum is more accurate, such an approach can hardly be incorporated in analysis due to its complexity. In contrast, the two-parameter foundation model provides a better way for simulating the underlying soil medium and is conceptually more appealing than the one-parameter (Winkler) foundation model. The finite element method is one of the most suitable mathematical tools for analysing rigid pavements under moving loads. This paper presents an improved solution algorithm based on the finite element method for the static analysis of rigid pavements under moving vehicular or aircraft loads. The concrete pavement is discretized by finite and infinite beam elements, with the latter for modelling the infinity boundary conditions. The underlying soil medium is modelled by the Pasternak model allowing the shear interaction to exist between the spring elements. This can be accomplished by connecting the spring elements to a layer of incompressible vertical elements that can deform in transverse shear only. The deformations and forces maintaining equilibrium in the shear layer are considered by assuming the shear layer to be isotropic. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of the position of moving loads on the response of pavement.
This study investigated the degradation of N, N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, indicator of the generation of OH radical) by using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma. The DBD plasma reactor of this study consisted of a quartz dielectric tube, titanium discharge (inner) and ground (outer) electrode. The effect of shape (rod, spring and pipe) of ground electrode, diameter (9~30 mm) of ground electrode of spring shape and inside diameter (4~13 mm) of quartz tube, electrode diameter (1~4 mm), electrode materials (SUS, Ti, iron, Cu and W), height difference of discharge and ground electrode (1~15.5 cm) and gas flow rate (1~7 L/min) were evaluated. The experimental results showed that shape of ground electrode and materials of ground and discharge electrode were not influenced the RNO degradation. The thinner the diameter of discharge and ground electrode, the higher RNO degradation rate observed. The effect of height gap of discharge between ground electrode on RNO degradation was not high within the experimented value. Among the experimented parameters, inside diameter of quartz tube and gas flow rate were most important parameters which are influenced the decomposition of RNO. Optimum inside diameter of quartz tube and gas flow rate were 7 mm and 4 L/min, respectively.

Viscoelastic damping materials are widely used to reduce noise and vibration because of its low cost and easy implementation, for examples, on the body structure of passenger cars, air planes, electric appliances and ships. To design the damped structures, the material property such as elastic modulus and loss factor is essential information. The four-parameter fractional derivative model well describes the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the viscoelastic damping materials with respect to both frequency and temperature with fewer parameters than conventional spring-dashpot models. However the identification procedure of the four-parameter is very time-consuming one. An efficient identification procedure of the four-parameters is proposed by using an FE model and a gradient-based numerical search algorithm. The identification procedure goes two sequential steps to make measured FRFs coincident with simulated FRFs: the first one is a peak alignment step and the second one is an amplitude adjustment. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is efficient and robust in identifying the viscoelastic material parameters of fractional derivative model.

Automatic washing machines have been improved and popularized steadily since the first electric washing machine was produced in the early 1900's. Appliance industry has tried to obtain the performance of washing machine with large capacity, high energy efficiency, low vibration and low noise levels. As the installation peace of a washer becomes closer to the living space, vibration and noise problems become more important challenges. In general, a washing machine has four legs to support its body. Four legs of the washing machine should be attached on a floor. If not so, it may cause severe vibration or walking in the spin-drying process. Unfortunately, the floor of an ordinary house is bumpy in general, and the consumers will not accept bolting washing machines to a foundation; moreover, sometimes they move the location of their washing machines to utility rooms or bath rooms or kitchens and don't care for leveling the legs exactly. In this study, we devise an auto-leg system that prevents the occurrence of abnormal vibration and walking of washing machines. It is simply composed of a spring and a friction damper. Some experiments are implemented to show the dynamic characteristics of the three-dimensional auto-legged washing machine model that is located on the even or uneven ground. A spring parameter is optimized to adjust the length of the auto-leg system automatically up to 10 mm irregularity, and the friction damper is designed to decrease a resonance induced by the spring of the auto-leg system. Some numerical results show that placing the proposed auto-leg system in a washing machine makes good performance with low vibration, as well as low noise, regardless of the unevenness of the floor.
