Most of all combustion system has combustion instability. It is a serious problem in combustion system. Unstable injection is one of the source of combustion instability. The experimental investigation of spray characteristics for simplex swirl injector were conducted experimentally. Two kerosene based fuels were chosen as the atomizing fluid. As the major operating parameters, fuel temperature and injection pressure were chosen, and varied in the range from 253 K to 293 K and from 0.2 MPa to 1.0 MPa, respectively. Direct spray images and mean diameter were measured for the various combination of operating parameters in the flow field. The results of present study show that the injection pressure and spray cone angle are fluctuated at specific conditions while it is continuous steady injection. As the fuel temperature changes continuously, spray cone angle varies discontinuously through the region of injection instability.
Wall wetting in diesel engines has been considered as a bad phenomenon because of fuel deposition which makes fuel/air mixing and evaporation worse. In order to avoid the problem, many research works have been carried out. One of the studies is on new combustion chamber systems which are using spray impacting on a wall. In this study a new type of chamber system is analysed using wall impaction model introduced and assessed in the coupled paper. The gas phase is modelled in terms of the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction, The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form. With various conditions the spray distribution, vapor contour and gas flows are analyzed, and then design factors of those combustion systems are recommended.
Metal matrix composites(MMCs) reinforced with ceramic particulates are receiving increasing attention because their high specific strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent wear resistance. Especially, Al-based composites(AMCs) have been widely applied for the aerospace and automotive industries. Such composites are mainly fabricated by the cast, powder metallurgy and infiltration process. In this study, SiC particulate reinforced Al-based composites were fabricated by thermal spray process and their wear behavior were investigated. Composites with different spray parameter were fabricated by using flame spray apparatus. Microstructure and wear behavior of the composites were observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and electron probe micro-analysis(EPMA).

In this study, the spray cooling heat transfer and working characteristics of the screen wick heat pipe with ultrasonic spray cooling system in condenser were experimentally investigated. The heat pipe was made of copper tube 300 mm long with inner diameter of 11.1 mm. The evaporator and condenser lengths of heat pipe were 40, 200 mm and the wick structure consists of two layer of 100 mesh copper screen. The experimental results show that the ultrasonic spray cooling increases the heat transfer rate on the condenser surface, and the total thermal resistance of heat pipe system decreases remarkably. A comparison is made for the two working fluids, water and ethanol. The surface temperature of the ethanol tube in evaporator section becomes higher than that of the water tube. Thus, the experimental result shows that water is more useful than ethanol as the working fluid because of increasing the operational limit within this experimental conditions.
In order to obtain the flame Propagation speed in freely falling droplet suspension Produced by an ultrasonic atomizer, a light collecting probe named Multi-color Integrated Cassegrain Receiving Optics (MICRO) is applied to spark-ignited spherical spray flames. Two MICRO probes are used to monitor time-series signals of OH chemilumine-scence from two different locations in the flame. The flame propagation speed is calculated by detecting the arrival time difference of the propagating flame front. In addition, time-series images of OH chemiluminescence are simultaneously obtained by a high-speed digital CCD camera to ensure the validity of the MICRO system. Furthermore, relationship between the spray properties measured by phase Doppler anemometer (PDA) and the flame propagation speed are discussed with k different experimental conditions by changing the fuel injection rate. It was confirmed that the MICRO probe system was very useful and convenient to obtain the flame propagation speed and that the flame propagation speed was different depending on the spray properties.
In this study, an analysis of evaporative diesel spray and an usefulness of a general-purpose program, ANSYS CFX release 11.0, are investigated through the comparison and investigation of the experimental results carried out under an evaporative field, in which there is phase transition, by an exciplex fluorescence method and the results analyzed by the CFX program. The diesel fuel called n-Tridecane, $C_{13}H_{28}$, is injected from a single-hole nozzle (l/d=1.0mm/0.2mm) into a constant volume chamber under a high temperature and pressure. In the same condition as the experimental condition, the analysis was carried out. Both results of the spray tip penetration were almost coincident at each time. The results have validated the usefulness of this analysis. As a result, if the ambient pressure is high, the spray tip penetration will be shortened and move toward the nozzle exit.
In recently, a study on the lean combustion is investigated intensively, because it is expected that this method may decrease the harmful exhaust gas and improve fuel economy in gasoline engine. The problems of lean combustion system in gasoline engine are ignition difficulty, misfire and instability of combustion. The investigation on the optimization of fuel metering and the control of mixing gas flow may be critical to improve the performance of lean combustion. In the fuel injection gasoline engine, the formation of mixture influences strongly on the engine performance such that the importance of fuel metering system becomes apparent. First of all, a study on the fuel breakup characteristics of gasoline fuel injector was carried out in this paper. Fuel injectors are pintle and 4hole-2spray type. The purpose of this study is to clarify the atomization mechanism of spray injected into atomosphere field through electronic controlled-fuel injectors, and to analyze spray characteristics such as drop size distribution and mean drop diameter produced at fuel injector. In this paper, the spray development is observed by taking photograps using 80mm still-camera system, and drop sizes are measured by PMAS. From these experiment, spray pattern injected from gasoline fuel injectors was investigated clearly. Also, it was found that SMD and drop size distribution of injected fuel spray from gasoline fuel injectors.

The goal of this study is to provide fundamental information on the design of a new diesel injector system. The cylindrical disk spray was made by an impinging disk insited below the exit of air-assist atomizor. The disintegration processes on a twin-fluid atomization by air-assist atomizor were investigated. Liquid jet was disintegrated at the condition that wavelength was equal and longer than the circumference of the liquid jet, .lambda. .geq. .pi.do. However, the wavelength and the diameter of the liquid jet were decreased according to the increasing of air velocity. The relative density distribution of droplets and pattern of spray by impinging disk were investigated with a C-CCD. Optimum design conditions for cylindrical disk spray were also achieved. The pattern of cylindrical spray can classified according to the size of the disk and the distance from the nozzle tip to the disk. When the space of the disk and the nozzle tip was narrow and the diameter of the disk was larger than that of the air orifice of the nozzle exit, the good distribution of spray could be achieved. When the air flowrate was constant, the spray width was decreased according to the increasing of the liquid flowrate. When the liquid flowrate was constant, the spray width was decreased according to the increasing of the air flowrate.
This paper describes the macroscopic behavior and atomization characteristics of the high-pressure gasoline swirl injector in direct-injection gasoline engine. The global spray behavior of fuel injector was visualized by shadowgraph technique. The atomization characteristics of gasoline spray such as mean diameter and mean velocity of droplets were measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer system. The macroscopic visualization and experiment of particle measurement on the fuel spray were investigated at 7 and 10 MPa of injection pressure under different spray cone angle. The results of this work show that the geometry of injector was more dominant over the macroscopic characteristics of spray than the fuel injection pressure and injection duration. As for the atomization characteristics, the increase of injection pressure resulted in the decrease of fuel droplet diameter and the atomization characteristics differed as to the spray cone angle. The most droplets had under $25{\mu}m$ diameter and for the large droplets(upper $40{\mu}m$) as the spray grew the atomization presses were very slow. Comparison results between the measured droplet distribution and the droplet distribution functions revealed that the measured droplet distribution is very closed to the Normal distribution function and Nukiyama-Tanasawa's function.
The objective of this study is to compare atomization characteristics for differently made an ultrasonic twin-fluid nozzle. A spray system, an ultrasonic system, and three different type(Nozzle type, Tube type. Conventional type)are made and compared experimental and numerical results. In this investigation, the measurement and numerical analysis of spray droplet are to analyze the effects of ultrasonic energy on the agricultural atomization spray system in order to protection of dispersion droplets. It is clarified that ultrasonic energy forcing into a nozzle is valid to obtain atomization enchancement. As the result of comparing the experimental and numerical result, it is confirmed that nozzle type is highest efficiency than that of tube type and conventional type, also well fit, respectively.
