Accumulation of coal ash at the boiler wall reduces combustion and fuel efficiency. The design of a wall blower is important to effectively remove coal ash. We present numerical results for the removal of coal ash from boiler walls of domestic coal-fired power plants, associated with the computational fluid dynamics for the flow from spray nozzle to boiler wall. The numerical model simulates an erosion process in which the multiphase fluid comprising saturated vapor and fluid water is sprayed from the nozzle, and the water particles impact the boiler wall. We adopt the Finnie erosion model for water particles. We obtain the erosion rate density as a function of nozzle angle and its injection angle. As excessive coal ash removal usually induces damage to the boiler wall, the removal operation typically focuses on a large area with uniform depth rather than the maximum removal of coal ash at a specific location. In order to estimate the removal performance of the wall blower nozzle considering several functionality and reliability factors, we evaluate the optimal injection and nozzle angles with respect to the biggest cumulative and highest erosion rates, as well as the widest range and lowest standard deviation of the erosion rate distribution.
Feedwater heaters of many nuclear power plants have recently experienced severe wall thinning damage, which will increase as operating time progresses. Several nuclear power plants in Korea have experienced wall thinning damage in the area around the impingement baffle inside feedwater heater installed downstream of the turbine extraction stream line. At that point, the extract steam from the turbine is two phase fluid at high temperature, high pressure, and high speed. Since it flows to reverse direction after impinging the impingement baffle, the shell wall of feedwater heaters may be affected by flow-accelerated corrosion. In this paper, to compare degree of shell wall thinning mitigation rate to squared type with mitigation rate of other type baffle plate, four different types of impingement baffle plate-squared, curved, mitigating type and multi-hole type-applied inside the shell. With these comparison data, this paper describes operation of experiments and numerical analysis which is composed similar condition with real feed water heater. And flow visualization is operated for verification of experiments and numerical analysis. In conclusion, this study shows that mitigating type and multi-hole type baffle plate are more effective than other baffle plate about prevention of pressure concentration and pressure value decrease.
In computational study of the flow in piston engines and the flow through moving valves, the use of moving vertices is essential for modelling flows with moving boundaries. The positions of cell vertices in such cases must be allowed to vary with time. To simulate 3-dimensional port-valve and piston-cylinder of HIMSEN 6H21/32 engine, a commercially available code, STAR-CD, was used. Changes in mesh geometry was specified by PROSTAR commands.(i.e. the Change Grid operation in the EVENTS command module.) Control of the intake flow is expected to play an important role as designers seek to obtain better fuel spray characteristics, fuel mixing and mixture preparation, combustion performance, and emissions reductions to meet national standards. As a result of analysis, velocity fields indicate the presence of a structured flow comprised of one pair of counter-rotating vortices under the intake valve during the early induction process. These flow structures remain visible for most of the intake process. As the piston moves towards BDC, these vortices develops into a larger tumbling motion that dominates the flow structure.
Recently, global warming and environmental pollution are becoming more important, and fuel economy is becoming important. Each automobile company is actively developing various new technologies to increase fuel efficiency. CVVD(Continuously Variable Valve Duration) system means a device that continuously changes the rotational speed of the camshaft to change the valve duration according to the state of the engine. In this paper, VVT(Variable Valve Timing) and CVVD were applied to a single-cylinder diesel engine, and the characteristics of intake and exhaust flow rate and in-cylinder pressure characteristics were analyzed by numerical analysis. In order to analyze the effect of CVVD on the actual engine operation, the study was performed by setting the valve control and injection pressure as variables in two sections of the engine operating region. As a result, In the case of applying CVVD, the positive overlap with the exhaust valve is maintained, thus it is possible to secure the flow smoothness of air and increase the volumetric efficiency by improving the flow rate. The section 2 condition showed the highest peak pressure, but the pressure rise rate was similar to that of the VVT 20 and CVCD 20 conditions up to 40 bar due to the occurrence of ignition delay.

Films of glass-ceramics $Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$(LAS)system were prepared on substrate of an iron plate(SCP) by sol-gel technique using metal alkoxide such as Si$(OC_2H_5)_4$,Al$(OC_2H_9)_3$) and Ti$(OC_2H_6)_4$). Sol which was made by means of simple spray coating, on the substrate was hydrolyzed at 75~$80^{\circ}C$ in moisture cabinet (80~90 % humidity) to form the multicomponent gel. The films up to about 0.8~1.0$mu extrm{m}$ in thickness can be obtained by repeating operation, spraylongrightarrowhydrolysis and condensationlongrightarrowdryinglongrightarrowheating and crystallization at $700^{\circ}C$ for 3~5min. The far-infrared radiation spectra of the coated films on substrate were examined by FT-IR and of films was also observed by scanning electron micrograph technique. The thermal evaluation of the gel-film is followed by TG/DTA measurements. The structure evaluation is followedd X-ray diffraction. These results suggest that this process is applicable to far-infrared radiat at thin film technique.

Difficult airway management including difficult intubation, difficult ventilation and difficult mask ventilation is a life threatening issue during anesthesia care. A 23-year-old woman with Treacher Collins syndrome was scheduled for distraction osteogenesis. She had hypoplasia of mandible and malar bone, bilateral deformities of auricles with partial deafness and antimongoloid slant of the palpebral fissures. A 56-year-old woman with mandibular hypoplasia due to childhood trauma was scheduled for distraction osteogenesis. She had a history of difficult intubation. We anticipated a difficult intubation and ventilation. Fiberoptic bronchoscopic guided awake intubation was selected for anesthesia induction. After intravenous injection of midazolam and remifentanil, 10% lidocaine pump spray on the pharyngolarynx with a direct laryngoscope and on the nasal canal. However fiberoptic bronchoscopic guided awake intubation was failed due to severe gag reflex. After intravenous injection of propofol and remifentanil using the target controlled infusion (TCI), mask ventilation was easily performed and, after intravenous injection of vecuronium, fiberoptic bronchoscopic guided intubation was easily performed using a wire reinforced endotracheal tube. The operation was completed successfully without any adverse events.
Due to its carbon-neutral nature, biogas generated from anaerobic digestion or fermentation of biodegradable wastes is one of the important renewable energy sources to reduce global warming. It is mainly composed of methane and various inert gases such as $CO_2$ and $N_2$, and the actual composition of biogas significantly varies depending on the origin of anaerobic digestion process. Therefore, in order to effectively utilize this fuel as an energy source for electricity, it is important to develop power generation engines which can successfully apply biogas with significant composition variations. In this study, efforts have been made to develop a diesel-biogas duel fuel engine as a way to achieve such a stable power generation. The effects of diesel fuel injection quantity and pressure on stable combustion and engine performance were investigated, and an impact of diesel fuel atomization was discussed. The engine test results show that there exists a 2 stage combustion which consists of diesel pilot fuel burning and premixed biogas/air mixture burning in dual fuel engine operation and optimum diesel injection parameters were suggested for biogases with various compositions and heating values.
As world attention has focused on global warming and air pollution, high efficiency diesel engines with low $CO_2$ emissions have become more attractive. Premixed diesel engines in particular have the potential to achieve the more homogeneous mixture in the cylinder which results in lower NOx and soot emission. Early studies have shown that the operation conditions such as the EGR, intake conditions, injection conditions and compression ratio are important to reduce emissions in a PCCI (Premixed Charge Compression Ignition) engine. In this study a modified cam was employed to reduce the effective compression ratio. While opening timing of the intake valve was fixed, closing timing of the intake valve was retarded $30^{\circ}$. Although Atkinson cycle with the retarded cam leads to a low in-cylinder pressure in the compression stroke, the engine work can still be increased by advanced injection timing. On that account, we investigated the effects of various injection parameters to reduce emission and fuel consumption; as a result, lower NOx emission levels and almost same levels of fuel consumption and PM compared with those of conventional diesel engine cam timing could be achieved with the LIVC system.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the nano-particle emission characteristics by 3-different biodiesel blending rates in a CI engine. Nano-particle number density emitted from various operating conditions of compression ignition engine can be investigated by using the PPS (Pegasor Particle Sensor) system. Namely, some particle charged through the corona discharge in real-time can be measured by PPS system. Under the steady state operation of the 2.0L CRDi diesel engine with different operating condition and biodiesel blending rates, the nano-particle number density was analyzed at the downstream position of DOC system. As this research result, more engine load speed and higher the concentration of biodiesel blending rate showed that the nano-particle number density decreases. Also we found that DOC system for clean diesel engine is effectively useful instrument to reduce diesel particulate matter as resource of nano-particle generation.
When designing a redox flow battery system, compression of battery stack is required to prevent leakage of electrolyte and to reduce contact resistance between cell components. In addition, stack compression leads to deformation of the porous carbon electrode, which results in lower porosity and smaller cross-sectional area for electrolyte flow. In this paper, we investigate the effects of electrode compression on the cell performance by applying multi-dimensional, transient model of all-vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). Simulation result reveals that large compression leads to greater pressure drop throughout the electrodes, which requires large pumping power to circulate electrolyte while lowered ohmic resistance results in better power capability of the battery. Also, cell compression results in imbalance between anolyte and catholyte and convective crossover of vanadium ions through the separator due to large pressure difference between negative and positive electrodes. Although it is predicted that the battery power is quickly improved due to the reduced ohmic resistance, the capacity decay of the battery is accelerated in the long term operation when the battery cell is compressed. Therefore, it is important to optimize the battery performance by taking trade-off between power and capacity when designing VRFB system.
