An insecticidal isoflavon glycoside was isolated from the roots of Maakia ammurensis. Its structure was shown to be formononetin-7-O-$\beta$ glucosy [1-6] glucoside [1] by chemical and spectroscpic methods and to have insecticidal activities against Brown planthopper female adults by spray and topical applications.
For development of SDI(Spark-ignited Direct Injection) engine, stratified mixture formation with adequate strength at spark plug was required in wide range of engine operating conditions. So, spray structure under high ambient pressure and spray distribution after impingement on piston bowl in motoring engine was visualized by using laser equipments. Also, incylinder bulk flow structure was measured by using PIV (Paiticle Image Velocimetry) system. Counter-rotating tumble port and bowl piston was found effective to conserve bulk motion directed to spark plug in compression stroke. In addition, mask attached near valve seat in intake port was proposed to attenuate conventional tumble component and enhance counter-rotating tumble component.
This study is to investigate the dispersion characteristics of diesel fuel spray in the initial stage of the beginning of the injection under the condition of room temperature and atmospheric pressure. It is difficult to analyse that the diesel fuel spray in diesel engine has unsteady intermittent spray. So author installed a fuel accumulator and an electromagnetic controller in order to keep the constant fuel injection rate with the time variation. With this modified fuel injection system, spray tip penetration, spray angle and initial spray development process are investigated by instantaneous photographic method. The results obtained in this study are as follows : 1) The initial shape of injection of diesel fuel spray shows the form of non-disintegrated intact core, but the formation of ligaments increasingly grows as the time increases. It can also be shown that fine droplets become disintegrated out from the ligaments. 2) The slope of spray tip penetration was changed to two different tendencies with time. The transition point of the slope is shown at the time of around between 0.09 msec and 0.4 msec from the beginning of injection. This is transition time from non-disintegrated intact core to formation of ligaments.
The effect of fuel injection spray on engine performance has been known as one of the major concerns for improving fuel economy and reducing emissions. In general, reducing the spray droplet size could prevent HC emission in gasoline engine. As far as PFI gasoline engine is concerned, the mixture of air and fuel may not be uniform under a certain condition, because breakup and production of spray droplets are made in a short distance between the fuel injector and intake valve. This study, by constituting PFI gasoline spray system, was performed to study the transient spray characteristics and dynamic behavior of droplets from two-holes two-sprays type injector used in DOHC gasoline engine. Mean droplet size and optical concentration in accordance with various conditions were measured by LDPA and CCD camera. Through this study, the variation of drop size and optical concentration could be used for understanding the behavior of unsteady spray was declared and the existing the small droplets between each pulse spray could be estimated caused to the development of wall film was conformed.
Experimental investigation of unsteady impinging diesel spray on the flat plate have been carried out using high speed camera and Malvern system. The density ratios of ambient gas to diesel fuel were varied using $N_2$ and Ar gas in the case of 14.9, 21.2, 28.4, 35.1, 40.4, and 50.1. With the increase of gas density ratio, the radial penetration is decreased due to the resistance of the ambient gas. With the increase of the gas density ratio and the distance between nozzle tip and flat plate, the height of spray is increased due to the entrance and circulation. With the increase of gas density ratio, SMD is decreased on the nearby position at the center of flat plate, but SMD is increased on the far position. As the distance between nozzle tip and flat plate is increased, SMD is always decreased.
The disintegration process of initial spray from high-pressure swirl injector was investigated at different injection pressures. The transient breakup phenomena that were difficult to observe at high injection pressure were easily observed at the low injection pressure of 0.4MPa. The effect of fuel remained inside a nozzle hole volume on the penetration of initial spray was also investigated. The disintegration process of initial spray could be classified four regions: the formation of mushroom shape, the first collision, the second collision, and the development of spray, The liquid film of cup shape was particularly found in the second collision region, and the growth ratio of its length and width at low and high injection pressures were compared.
Simulation is performed to analyze the characteristics of turbulent spray combustion in a diesel engine condition. An extended Conditional Moment Closure (CMC) model is employed to resolve coupling between chemistry and turbulence. Relevant time and length scales and dimensionless numbers are estimated at the tip and the mid spray region during spray development and combustion. The liquid volume fractions are small enough to support validity of droplets assumed as point sources in two-phase flow. The mean scalar dissipation rates (SDR) are lower than the extinction limit to show flame stability throughout the combustion period. The Kolmogorov scales remain relatively constant, while the integral scales increase with decay of turbulence. The chemical time scale decreases abruptly to a small value as ignition occurs with subsequent heat release. The Da and Ka show opposite trends due to variation in the chemical time scale. More work is in progress to identify the spray combustion regimes.
The object of this work is to analyze the macroscopic spray performance and atomization characteristics between diesel and biodiesel fuels. In this study, the effects of mixture ratios of biodiesel fuel on the spray tip penetration, fuel injection rate, spray cone angle, and the atomization characteristics such as droplet size, droplets distribution, and spray arrival time according to the axial distance were investigated at various injection parameters. It is revealed that the injection rate is more affected by injection pressure than mixture ratio. And, the spray development process is closely matched between diesel and biodiesel fuels. However, the droplet atomization characteristics of biodiesel shows deteriorated results as the mixture ratio of biodiesel increased because of the high viscosity and density.
Dimethyl ether (DME) as an alternative fuel for compression ignition engine was investigated by measuring spray development processes, injection rate profiles, engine performance, and exhaust emission characteristics. The results of DME fueled engine were compared with those obtained by fueled with diesel. The experimental results showed that DME has approximately 0.03ms shorter injection delay and higher maximum injection rate than those of diesel fuel at a constant injection pressure of 50MPa. The spray visualization indicates that DME has shorter spray tip penetration due to its low density and faster evaporation. The combustion characteristics of DME operated engine provided faster ignition delay and three times shorter combustion duration. It is believed that the better evaporation and atomization characteristic of DME contributes the faster combustion. At all operating condition, soot emission was not detected due to the clean combustion of DME.
