The Effect of Smartphone Holding Techniques on Kinematic Variables and Muscle Activities in the Thumb during Tapping Numbers (휴대전화 파지방법이 엄지손가락의 운동학적 변인과 근활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether there are significant differences in kinematic variables and muscle activities of the thumb between two smartphone holding techniques. Twelve right handed university students(age $25.4{\pm}3.9yrs$, height $176.2{\pm}5.1cm$, weight $75.8{\pm}11.4kg$, hand length $19.2{\pm}1.1cm$) who have no musculoskeletal disorder were recruited as the subjects and had experience in using a smartphone for more than one year. Maximum joint angle, angular velocity, muscular activities were determined for each trial. For each dependent variable, paired t-test was used to determine whether there were significant differences between one hand (OH) and two hands ([TH], ${\rho}$ <.05). The results of this study showed that there were no significant differences between OH and TH in the maximum joint angle of the thumb. The angular velocity of each joint was not statistically significant between OH and TH. The statistical analysis revealed that the main effect of the smartphone holding conditions was significant in the peak normalized muscular activities of FDI and APL. Although smartphone holding technique doesn't affect on mobility and movement of the thumb joint, it may affect on active degree of the thumb and the upper extremity in directly and indirectly.

The Effect of CI Technique in PNF and Sport Taping on Pain and Grip Strength in Patients with Lateral Epicondylitis (PNF의 CI기법과 스포츠테이핑이 팔꿉관절 가쪽위관절염 환자의 통증과 악력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of the simultaneous application of the combination of isotonics (CI) in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and sport taping on the pain and grip strength of patients diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis among H badminton club members and to provide intervention methods for lateral epicondylitis. Methods: The subjects included 10 patients diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis. The CI technique in PNF as well as sport taping were applied to the subjects five times per week for two weeks. The visible analogue scale (VAS) was used to measure decreasing changes in pain, and a grip dynamometer was used to measure grip strength (GS). Paired sample t-tests were conducted to compare values measured before and after the experiment in order to determine differences. Results: The intensities of pain of the experimental groups changed significantly between the times before and after the experiment (p<0.05), and grip strength also changed significantly from the time before after the experiment (p<0.05). Conclusion: When the CI technique of PNF as well as sport taping were applied to patients with lateral epicondylitis, the patients showed significant improvements in pain and grip strength. Since the intervention had quite positive effects on the subjects that complained of lateral epicondylitis by reducing their pain and increasing their grip strength, studies of efficient exercise interventions will be continuously conducted to propose the development of intervention programs.

Effects of lower extremity stability by kinesio taping method in elite speed skating athletes' one-leg jumping (엘리트 빙상 선수들의 외발점프 훈련 시 키네시오 테이핑요법이 하지관절 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigating the effect of taping knee by testing the difference on kinetic variables of lower extremity when speed skating athletes jump on one leg. The results were as follows. The height of jumping after taping was higher, but the vertical height was not different according to taping. On take-off(TO), the horizontal and anterior-posterior maximum impulse force were decreased while the vertical maximum impact force was increased after taping. On landing(LD), the anterior-posterior maximum impulse force was decreased but the horizontal and vertical maximum impulse force were increased. TO, the impulse showed low after taping and the impulse dropped largely LD. The knee's moment of extension, eversion were reduced after tapping TO. LD, the flection moment of knee was decreased, but the inversion moment was increased after tapping. This study implies that the knee tapping helps injury prevention and performance enhancement, sports medicine convergence are needed.

Design and Implementation of a Mobile-based Sarcopenia Prediction and Monitoring System (모바일 기반의 '근감소증' 예측 및 모니터링 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper confirmed the technical reliability of mobile-based sarcopenia prediction and monitoring system. In implementing the developed system, we designed using only sensors built into a smartphone without a separate external device. The prediction system predicts the possibility of sarcopenia without visiting a hospital by performing the SARC-F survey, the 5-time chair stand test, and the rapid tapping test. The Monitoring system tracks and analyzes the average walking speed in daily life to quickly detect the risk of sarcopenia. Through this, it is possible to rapid detection of undiagnosed risk of undiagnosed sarcopenia and initiate appropriate medical treatment. Through prediction and monitoring system, the user may predict and manage sarcopenia, and the developed system can have a positive effect on reducing medical demand and reducing medical costs. In addition, collected data is useful for the patient-doctor communication. Furthermore, the collected data can be used for learning data of artificial intelligence, contributing to medical artificial intelligence and e-health industry.

Effects on Threshold Change of Motor Nerve under Controlled Sensory Stimulation (조절된 감각자극이 운동신경의 역치변화에 미치는 효과)

  • If a controlled sensory stimulation is given to the specific receptors, a reflex movement and motor engrams is achieved by the principle of neurophysiology. Based on this theoretical background, we choose 80 healthy person(male 40,female 40) and compare chronaxie of before stimulation with after stimulation. Also we measured chronaxie with same method. Stimulation was applied to the muscle belly by tapping. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The mean value of rheobase measured from the proximal part of upper extremity is 3. 56mA for male, 4.04mA for female. 2. The mean value of rheobase measured from the lower extremity is 4.19mA for male, 4. 37mA for female, which is higher than that of upper extremity for both male and female. 3. The mean value of chronaxie from the proximal part of upper extremity is 0.91msec for male, 0.87 msec for female, which means male is higher than female, and the average is 0.82msec. 4. The mean value of chronaxie from the proximal part of lower extremity is 1.04msec for male, 1.14msec for female, which means female is higher than male. 5. The decrease of rheobase after stimulation is prominent at the triceps brachii for male, biceps brachii for female. 6. The decrease of rheobase after stimulation is prominent at the tibialis anterior for both male and female. 7. The decrease of chronaxie after stimulation is prominent for both male and female at the triceps brachii from upper extremity and at the tibialis anterior from lower extremity for both male and female.
