  • The purpose of this study was to examine the necessity of collaboration between local community and college, and to develop a sport socialization model through the collaboration of local community and college. It's basically meant to create a leisure culture easily accessible to local residents and to suggest some of the right directions for the symbiotic development of local communities and colleges. As for data collection, a data research analysis was implemented by consulting relevant literature and reports, and a content analysis was additionally carried out. The findings of the study were as follows: A sport socialization model was presented to represent the mutual relationship between local community and college by preparing sport socialization programs(a youth sport program and a dementia-preventive exercise program) that were respectively of circulatory relationship type and of reciprocal type. Sport intervention through the collaboration of local community and college(a youth sport program and a dementia-preventive exercise program) serves to accelerate socialization into sport, which leads, in turn, to socialization via sport and then is followed by desocialization from sport.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the usefulness of the Mathcad program as a tool for the studying and teaching the sport biomechanics. A projectile motion was analyzed because it is the one of the most popular motion in sports activities. A 3 dimensional CG data for the high jump bar clear phase was used to calculate the initial velocity vector of the CG. Linear regression function and other functions such as cubic spline and derivative of Mathcad were used to calculate this vector. Finally, the approach angle to the bar and peak jump height was calculated. Programming in Mathcad was relatively easy compare to traditional computer language such as Fortran and C, because of the unique documentation method of Mathcad. Additionally the 2 and 3 dimensional graph function was very easy and useful to describe the mechanical data. If the use of Mathcad program is more popular in the field of sport biomechanics, it could greatly contribute to overcome the limit of research caused by the lack of proper programming ability.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a acute ankle mobility exercise (AE) program on the range of motion and pain levels associated with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Twenty adult women with an average score of 24 or less on both sides in the ankle instability questionnaire were selected and divided into two groups: the Ankle Mobility Exercise Program group (AE, n=10) and the control group (CON, n=10). The AE treatment involved a one-time, 20-minute exercise session for each ankle, conducted separately on the left and right ankles, to examine the response to a acute exercise. Measures of ankle instability, pain, and ankle range of motion were evaluated before and after the treatment. In the AE group, which underwent the AE program, a significant decrease in pain was observed post-AE compared to pre-AE (p<.01). In addition, an increase in dorsiflexion was observed in the AE group post-AE compared to pre-AE following the AE program(p<.05). These results suggest that a acute AE program can effectively alleviate some aspects of ankle instability by improving ankle pain and range of motion in adult women with chronic ankle instability (CAI).

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a body alignment correction program on asymmetrically developed squash players. Method : 30 experienced squash players who showed asymmetric body development, after evaluation of moire topography contour line shape, were involved in the experiment. All of them were right-handed and had more than five years of experience playing squash. Variables of body composition, moire topography and EMG were statistically compared between pre- and post- application of the 12-week body alignment correction program. The program consisted of 10-minute, left-handed forehand and backhand drive movements and 36 minutes performing 12 different yoga postures. Results : First, the body alignment correction program showed significant effects on the total weight, body fat percentage, and body mass index of the participants. Second, a decrease of right side inclined angles and an increase of left side inclined angles might result in a higher left-right symmetry rate and a better left-right balance; however the data was not statistically significant. Third, the EMG left-right deviation of erector spinae and latissimus decreased and the erector spinae muscle was thought to be more essential for vertebral movement and left-right asymmetry correction. Conclusion : A body alignment correction program, including yoga and opposite side exercises, could reduce left-right asymmetry.
