The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of spiritual education for spiritual care competence reinforcement of nursing students. 83 subjects of nursing students were participated in two universities located in J city(from February 27 to May 19, 2017) and composed of 42 in the experimental group and 41 in the control group. The spiritual education was composed of three sections; self-awareness, spirituality, and spiritual dimension in nursing. This program was then implemented on the subjects for a total of 10 sessions with each session lasting 120 minutes and given 2 times a week for 5 weeks. The data collected were analyzed for descriptive statistics, χ2-test, Independent t-test and Repeated ANOVA. This spiritual education increased the spirituality, ego-identity, spiritual well-being, satisfaction with life, and spiritual care competence of the nursing students. The effectiveness of the spiritual education also maintained in five weeks after intervention. It is therefore proposed that this education be utilized for the nursing students as basic standardization process of a spiritual nursing care.

The measurement tool for spiritual wellbeing was a self-report questionnaire which consisted of 20 questions as 6 point Likert scale developed by Palautzian and Ellison(1982). The tool used do measure hope was developed based on a questionnaire consisting of 4 point Likert scale. Analysis of the data done by use of descriptive statistical methods, t-test, Pearson correlation. The result of this study are as follows : 1. The mean score for spiritual wellbeing was 82.32 and the range was 48-120. Among the components of spiritual wellbeing, the mean score for religious wellbeing was 39.23 and for existential wellbeing, 43.09. 2. The mean score for hope in the teacher group was 84.43, and in the school health teacher group, 88. 33, and this was statistically significant. 3. The response rate on good health for the perceived health status questions in the teacher group, 48.2%, and in the school health teacher group, 42.4%. 4. In testing the hypothesis concerning the relationship between spiritual wellbeing and hope, there was a strong positive correlation in both groups. In a comparison of coefficients of religious, existential wellbeing and hope, there was more stronger correlation in existential wellbeing than that in the other two. 5. In testing the hypothesis concerning the relationship between spiritual wellbeing and perceived health status, there was a weak positive correlation in both groups. 6. The mean score for spiritual wellbeing in the school health teacher group was higher than that in the teacher group and the difference was statistically significant. From the above results it can be conclude that : 1. There was strong positive correlation between spiritual wellbeing and hope. 2. There was correlation between spiritual wellbeing and perceived health status. 3. There was difference for spiritual wellbeing between the school health teacher group and the teacher group, and this was statistically significant.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of spiritual well-being and meaning in life for adolescents with leukemia. Methods: Participants were 102 adolescents (11-21 years) recruited at C university hospital from June to August in 2014. The eligible participants were diagnosed with leukemia and are on follow-up care at the outpatient clinic. Participants were assessed for spiritual well-being, meaning in life, self-esteem, and social support. Results: Levels of spiritual well-being and meaning in life for these adolescents with leukemia were 3.69 out of 6 and 3.10 out of 4, respectively. Self-esteem and social support from family were factors affecting spiritual well-being. Self-esteem, existential well-being and social support from family and friends were predictive for meaning in life and accounted for 68% of total variance. Conclusion: The results show that there are several factors affecting spiritual well-being and meaning in life in adolescents with leukemia. Therefore, nursing intervention programs for adolescents with leukemia should include strengthening self-esteem and social support as well as considering the spiritual aspect of life in order to find meaning in life beyond leukemia.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effects of spiritual nursing intervention on the spiritual well being and depression levels of hospice patients. Method: The data for this study were collected from 62 patients who were admitted to the hospice care unit from July 28, 2002 to October 31, 2002 in D city K hospital. Subjects were 31 members of the experimental group and 31 members of the control group. It was devised with a nonequivalent control group pretest posttest design. The spiritual nursing intervention was given by using the therapeutic use of self. Scripture. prayer. Hymn and music. use of church community involvement and referrals to pastors according to the assessment of patients' spiritual needs for 3 weeks(total 12 times and 1 hour per each intervention). Sangsoon Choi (1990) and Jungho Kang(1996)'s spiritual well being scale. which was modified from Palautzian and Ellison (1982)'s spiritual well being scale, was used to investigate patients' spiritual well being. To investigate the level of depression. OkHyun Song(1977)'s Depression Scale, which was modified from Zung(1965)'s Depression Inventory, was used. Data were analyzed by $x^2$-test. t-test. and repeated measures ANOVA with SPSS/Win 10.0 program. Results: 1. The 1st hypothesis. 'total spiritual well being score in the experimental group, who received the spiritual nursing intervention, will be higher than the control group who did not receive the spiritual nursing intervention' was supported (F=6.28, p=0.015, Interaction: p=0.000). 2. The 1 lst sub hypothesis, 'religious well being score in the experimental group, who received the spiritual nursing intervention, will be higher than the control group who did not receive the spiritual nursing intervention' was supported(F=12.75, p=0.001 Interaction: p=0.000). 3. The 1 2nd sub hypothesis, 'existential well being score in the experimental group, who received the spiritual nursing intervention, will be higher than the control group who did not receive the spiritual nursing intervention' was supported(F=6.87, p=0.016, Interaction: p=0.000). 4. The 2nd hypothesis, 'depression level in the experimental group, who received the spiritual nursing intervention, will be lower than the control group who did not receive the spiritual nursing intervention' was supported (F=10.45, p=0.002, Interaction: p=0.000). Conclusion: From the above results, spiritual nursing intervention was an effective program to improve the spiritual well being state and decrease the depression levels of the hospice patients. In the future, with spiritual intervention. which the researcher developed, is applied in the nursing field, the hospice patients can have comprehensive well being including spiritual well being and die peacefully.
Purpose: This study aimed to describe the meaning of spiritual care as perceived by nursing students. Methods: This study used a descriptive research design, and the participants were 126 fourth-year nursing students from three nursing colleges. Data were collected from August to September 2019, and were analyzed using the content analysis method. Results: Four themes of spiritual care with 15 sub-themes were extracted from the content analysis: 1) "promoting spiritual well-being" (sub-themes: "providing religious help", "caring for the patient as a spiritual being", and "presupposing human dignity regardless of religion"); 2) "taking place in actual nursing practice" (representative sub-themes: "considering the perspective of the patient", "reducing suffering"); 3) "caring for the multifaceted needs of human beings" (representative sub-themes: "providing physical, mental, and spiritual care", "caring for both the mental and physical health of the patient"), and 4) "growing together" (sub-themes: "positively affecting patient well-being", "beginning with the nurse's self-transcendence"). Conclusion: These results suggest that nursing students consider spiritual care to be a highly positive and practical form of nursing care. However, because few students have been exposed to religion and spirituality, more systematic training should be provided.

After the spiritual nursing intervention, depression of the experimental group were lower than those of the control (t=-9.128, p=0.000). Conclusion: The hospice patients who were offered spiritual nursing intervention had lower anxiety & depression than not offered it. According to these results, it can be regarded as an effective one that relieved anxiety and depression of the hospice patients.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the relationship among emotional happiness, spiritual need, and healthy aging and to identify the factors affecting healthy aging in middle-aged and elderly population. Method: The participants were 100 middle-aged and elderly individuals. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from March 9 to May 27, 2020. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: There was a positive correlation between healthy aging and emotional happiness (r=.70, p<.001) and spiritual need (r=.52, p<.001). The factors influencing healthy aging were gender (β=.13, p=.026), subjective health status (β=.19, p=.002), emotional happiness (β=.60, p<.001), and spiritual need (β=.34, p<.001). These variables explained 67% of healthy aging. Conclusion: Healthy aging had a significant impact on women than on men when subjective health status was good and when emotional happiness and spiritual need were high. Healthy aging of the middle-aged and elderly population has confirmed the importance of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Therefore, development and operation of programs that include various aspects of physical, emotional, and spiritual for healthy aging should be considered to confirm their effectiveness.
