PHOTOMETRY AND SPECTROSCOPY OF THE SPIRAL GALAXY NGC7678

  • We present VR CCD photometry and long-slit spectroscopy of a late type spiral galaxy NGC 7678. The grey scale images and isophotal maps illustrate the presence of a weak bar from which spiral arms emerge. There are many HII regions along the spiral arms, but bright giant HII regions are more concentrated in the massive southern arm. The bright compact nucleus of NGC 7678 is bluer than bulge and bar. The spectral features of the nucleus and HII regoins are very similar but the nuclear spectra shows higher $[NII]{\lambda}6583/H_\alpha$ than those of the HII regions. The nucleus of NGC 7678 seems to be intermediate type between HII region nulcei and LINERs by the ratio of $[NII]{\lambda}6583/H_\alpha$, but it is more likely to be HII region-like nucleus if we consider the $[NII]{\lambda}6716,6731/H_\alpha$ together. The star formation rate is estimated to be about $0.2 M_\bigodot\;yr^{-1}$ based on the $H_\alpha$ flux.

Trial Maunfacture of Planar Type Micro Inductors (평면형 마이크로인덕터의 시작에 관한 연구)

  • The developmement of electronic machine industries requires miniature of size as well as increasement of driving frequency in electronic parts, recently. To realize micro-struture of magnetic devices, in this study, we fabricated thin film inductors by using thin film manufacturing techniques such as photolithography and wet etching process, and these devices are measured at high frequency range of 1 MHz~1 GHz. The results are as follows. The accurate measuring technique by using network analyzer system having microstrip line was established. The manufactured inductors are fabricated with several ten micrometers by means of wet etching process known as easier and more economic than dry etching process. VVhen the device size of two types (spiral, meander) is the same, inductance value L and quality factor Q of spiral type devices are larger than those of meander type, but driving frequency of spiral type is lower than that of meander type due to increasement of inductance L. It is necessary to decrease resistance value R by increasing cross section of the conductor film coil. Thus high frequency measuring method would be a very useful for another measuring fields of the range over several hundreds MHz.

Application of Capacitive Deionization Packed Ion Exchange Resins in Two Flow Channels (두 가지 유로 형태에 따라 이온교환수지를 채운 축전식 탈염기술)

  • To desalinate the aqueous solutions with high salt concentration using the capacitive deionization technology, two resin/membrane capacitive deionization(RMCDI) cells were fabricated by filling mixed ion exchange resins in two different flow channels (spacer and spiral type). The salt removal efficiency of the spacer- and spiral-RMCDI was 77.21 and 99.94%, respectively. Many ions were significantly removed in a spiral RMCDI cell because the feed solution could be more evenly contacted with the ion exchange resins filled on the spiral type flow channel. As the result of the changes of pH and accumulative charges, it was observed that Faradaic reaction was diminished for a spiral RMCDI cell filled by the mixture of cation and anion exchange resins. Therefore, the desalination of the aqueous solutions with high salt concentration by the capacitive deionization technology was proven. In addition, further studies on the optimization of the mixing ratio with ion exchange resins and the introduction of the regeneration process generally occurred in the continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) technology are required to improve the RMCDI technology.

COMPUTATIONAL STUDY FOR PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF FLOW CHANNELS INSIDE CDI UNIT CELL (수치모사를 이용한 CDI Unit Cell 내부의 유로성능 평가)

  • In the present study, computations for flow fields inside the CDI unit cells with electrodes and spacers have been made to evaluate their performance. Three types of unit cells that include a planar type, a serpentine channel type, and a spiral wound type were considered and their flow characteristics were compared. From the computational results, it is found that the serpentine channel type has a large flow resistance and can not guarantee the outflow flux for industrial applications. On the other hand, the planar type can sustain a large enough outflow flux but it's efficiency is low for the electrode-use because of the non-uniform velocity distribution inside the cell and dead zones in every corner. Finally, The spiral wound type has not only a large outflow flux as much as the planar type has, but also a high efficiency for the electrode-use because of uniform velocity distribution. From this comparison, we can expect that the spiral wound type of CDI unit cell would have a high performance deionization capability.

A Study on the Lubrication Characteristics of Spool Valve with Spiral Groove (스파이럴 그루브가 가공된 스풀밸브의 윤활 특성 연구)

  • In this research, spool valves with spiral grooves are suggested and their lubrication characteristics are investigated by numerical analysis. The three-dimensional flow field is obtained by solving the Navier-Stokes equations in dimensionless form, so that the performance variables such as lateral force, friction force and volume flow rate are determined. Also, the lubrication characteristics of spool valves with spiral grooves are compared with those with typical grooves under variable working conditions. It is shown that spool valves with spiral grooves can get better performance in aspect of mitigation of uneven pressure distribution surrounding spool. Moreover, it is found that the minimum distance between spool edges and grooves, the type of spiral groove, and the groove angle have noticeable effect on the lubrication characteristics.

  • In this paper, the spiral antenna with the center frequencies of 315MHz, 433MHz, and 447MHz for RKE system of a vehicle is designed on PCB. The antenna is microstrip line-fed, and applied PIFA concept near the feeding part to easily tune center frequency and input impedance. The PIFA-type spiral antenna with the size of $30mm{\times}20mm$ is designed on printed PCB by considering the effect of circuits and components on PCB, ECU case and vehicle body. Also chip inductor inserted dual-band spiral antenna of 315MHz and 447MHz is designed. We found that the antenna designed on PCB satisfied the antenna specifications through measurement and field test.

Analysis of Arc Behavior as a Function of Twisting Angle Between Contacts in Spiral Type VI by Means of Arc Image, Arc Voltage and FEM (아크이미지, 아크전압과 유한요소해석을 통한 나선형 VI 전극 간의 비틀림 각도에 따른 아크거동분석)

  • In this paper arc behavior in spiral type vacuum interrupter(VI) was analyzed by means of arc images, arc voltages and finite element method(FEM). As a result of experiment, the difference of arc voltage was observed under different twisting angles. It was found that the reason of the difference was the difference of arc resistance from simultaneous analysis of arc images and arc voltages. and the difference of arc resistance was explained by Lorentz force calculation with FEM. And the results of calculation were sufficient to explain the experimental results.

  • In this paper the arc behavior in spiral type vacuum interrupter was analyzed by observing taken photographs from high-speed digital camera(10000frame/second) and current-voltage waveform from oscilloscope. As a result, the influence of twisting angle between contacts on arc behavior could be analyzed by matching and comparing arc voltage and photographs simultaneously.

  • One of the purposes of arc control is to change its state to the diffuse state before current zero as soon as possible. This can provide optimal conditions for full extinction of arc by minimizing the quantity of residual plasma between contacts near current zero. TRV(transient recovery voltage) occurs at current zero at the same time with current interruption. If there is substantial residual plasma near current zero it can cause 'post arc current' by the interaction of its conductance with TRV. In this paper, arc control ability as a function of configuration of spiral type VI contacts was compared on the criteria of the time taken for arc to reach to the diffuse state.
