  • The flow forming has been used to produce long thin walled tube parts, with the reduced fanning force and the enhanced mechanical and surface quality for a good finished part, compared with the fanned parts using other method. Therefore, flow fanning technique is used widely in industrial production. Spinning and flow fanning techniques are used frequently in automotive, aerial and defense industries. The main factors for the flow fanning machine design are motor power, bed rigidity, mandrel stiffness, spindle power, roller profile, etc. Especially, mandrel, spindle power and roller are important factors for flow fanning machine capacity. In this paper, three dimensional finite element method for analysis of one-roller backward flow fanning of a workpiece has been carried out to study effects of roller profile on fanning force. Applied roller profile have roller lead geometries of angle $20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;40^{\circ}$, concave and convex. Axial and radial fanning forces on various roller profiles are obtained and compared with each analysis cases.

  • The spinning machine has been developed for a bus and truck wheel disc which is manufactured by spinning process method. This machine has the mechanical structure with bed, 2-column, cross head, 2-vertical slide, 2-horizontal slide with forming roller, clamp slide and main spindle similar to large size vertical lathe. Main spindle attached the mandrel is rotated about 500rpm drived by 280kW power DC motor, and a rotating black material pressed on the mandrel with the clamp slide is spinformed by 2-forming rollers which are attached inner end of the 2-horizontal slides. The 2-vertical and 2-horizontal slides are actuated by the hydraulic cylinder which is controlled by the servo valve individially, and these servo valves are controlled by control signal of the CNC controller which is computed with position signal feedbacked from the encoder sensor. The developed machine can manufacture wheel disc of various section profile without mandrel change because section profile is easily modified using program editing in the CNC controller processor. The wheel disc manufactured by spinning process method has many advantages that the endurance is increased by 2 times and the weight is decreased by 30% compared with a conventional disc.

  • This paper presents a new speed sensorless vector control scheme of Spindle Induction Motors(SIM) which can be successfully applied to at any speed including even zero speed. The proposed sensorless vector control of SIM uses rotor flux estimator with a variable bandwidth. This approach is based on the Closed-Loop Rotor Flux Observer(CLRFO) which includes a variable bandwidth of the PI controller. For low speed operation, the bandwidth of CLRFO has a variable bandwidth structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. The experimental results show the satisfactory operation of the proposed sensorless algorithm.

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications. • This paper analyzes the electro-mechanical characteristics of the spindle motor in a computer hard disk drive due to the trapezoidal and sinusoidal driving methods. The driving circuit equation is modified by considering the switching action of PWM inverter, and is coupled with the Maxwell equation for the analysis of the magnetic field. Mechanical motion of a rotor is calculated by solving Newton-Euler equation. Electro-mechanical excitation and dynamic response are characterized by analyzing the free response of a rotating rotor and Fourier analysis of the excitation force.

  • As the form factor of the disk drive is decreased, many mechanical issues that are negligible in larger form factors, should be considered for the design of the miniature drives. This paper deals with basic research on vibration characteristics and design considerations of small disks and actuators. The natural frequencies of micro-sized disks with polycabonate and glass substrates are experimentally measured, being compared to FEM results. In order to investigate the effects of rotating speeds, airflow and disk size on power consumption. we measure power imposed to spindle motor when different optical disks are spins in vacuum chamber. Finally, The vibration characteristics of the micro actuator used in a IBM Microdrive are experimentally studied for the application to the basic design of micro optical disks.

  • Torque ripple is one of the major sources inducing vibration and noise in brushless DC motors. This is especially true in applications such as the spindle motors used in hard disk drives. However, the relationship between torque ripple and acoustic noise/vibration is quite complicated. This paper presents a way to investigate this relationship with acoustic noise measurement and analysis. Results obtained with three different drive modes are used in the analysis. The results show that the acoustic noise analysis is very helpful in designing a high-performance drive strategy for BLDC motors.

  • Description and theory of spin coating technique has been elaborately outlined and a spin coating machine designed and fabricated using affordable components. The system was easily built with interdisciplinary knowledge of mechanics, fluid mechanics and electronics. This equipment employs majorly three basic components and two circuit units in its operation. These include a high speed dc motor, a proximity sensor mounted at a distance of about 15 mm from a reflective metal attached to the spindle of the motor to detect every passage of the reflective metal at its front and generate pulses. The pulses are transmitted to a micro-controller which process them into rotational speed (revolution per minute) and displays it on a lead crystal display (LCD) which is also a component of the micro-controller. The circuit units are a dc power supply unit and a PWM motor speed controlling unit. The various components and circuit units of this equipment are housed in a metal casing made of an 18 gauge black metal sheet designed with a total area of 1, $529.2cm^2$. To illustrate the use of the spin-coating system, ZnO sol-gel films were prepared and characterized using SEM, XRD, UV-vis, FT-IR and RBS and the result agrees well with that obtained from standard equipment and a speed of up to 9000 RPM has been achieved.

  • Permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is widely used in many applications such as an electric vehicle. compressor drives of air conditioner and machine tool spindle drives. PMSM drive system have become a popular choice in various application, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. This paper is proposed maximum torque control for field weakening operation of PMSM drive. At low speeds, the reluctance torque is used to maximize the output for a given current level. This is achieved maximum torque per ampere(MTPA) by selecting an optimal value of the direct stator current component. At high speeds, the system reaches a point at which the inverter will not be able to supply the desired voltage. In this case it is necessary to make use of an increased value the direct current component. The proposed control algorithm is applied to PMSM drive system, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by simulation.
