The Effect of Spinal Decompression Therapy on the Pain and Posture in the Patients with Low back Pain

  • The purpose of this study identify that spinal decompression therapy effect on and pain, length Of leg distance(LLD), and muscle power and flexibility in patient with low back pain. The participants is 20 female and male with low back pain, and participant assign to decompression therapy group and control group at random. The decompression therapy apply to 20 minute 3 time for a week during 4 weeks. The Measurement items is pain, LLD, and muscle power, flexibility. The comparison between the before and after was Wilcoxon's U test, and 2 group after spinal decompression therapy application compared Mann-Whithney U test. Spinal decompression therapy reduced statistically significance the pain, LLD, and increased statistically significance the muscle power and flexibility increased the muscle power(p<.05). This study showed that spinal decompression therapy does affect pain, LLD, and muscle power and flexibility in patient with low back pain.

  • For spinal flexibility measurements to be meaningful to clinicians or researchers, they must have a normative information and an understanding of how different variables affect spinal range of motion (ROM). Normal spinal ROM measurements are influenced to differing degrees by many factors. These factors include age, gender, time of day, leisure activities, previous history of low back pain, warming up, and the techniques with which normative data are collected. The additional variables of standing height, ratio of standing height to sitting height, and obesity had not been previously studied extensively and were shown to have a significant effect on flexibility in the sagittal plane. These relationship cannot be explained easily. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between spinal flexibility and individual factors (weight, standing height, and ratio of standing height to sitting height) that influence it. Fifteen healthy subjects between the ages of 20 and 27 years were studied. Two physical therapists measured independently the spinal forward bending ROM in the sagittal plane by Remodified Schober test and Finger-to-floor test. In order to determine the statistical significance of the result the Pearson's correlation was applied at the .05 level of significance. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Significant relationship was not identified between spinal flexibility and weight. 2) Significant relationship was not identified between spinal flexibility and standing height. 3) Significant relationship was not identified between spinal flexibility and ratio of standing height to sitting height.

공기주입식공을 이용한 근막이완 운동이 성인의 척추 유연성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Myofascial Release Exercise using an Inflatable Compression Therapy Ball on Spinal Flexibility in Adults)

  • Background: This study examined the effects of myofascial release exercise using an inflatable compression therapy ball on spinal flexibility in adults to present basic data to improve spinal flexibility. Methods: The participants were assigned randomly to two groups: the myofascial release exercise group (MRE, n=60) and the stretching exercise group (SE, n=60). The MRE group performed myofascial release exercise for the erector spine muscles using an inflatable compression therapy ball. The SE group performed stretching exercises of the erector spine muscles. Each exercise was performed in 3 sets of 10 repetition daily for one week. Results: The within-group comparison revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-intervention and post-intervention measurements in only MRE group (p<.05). On the other hand, the between-group comparison revealed the MRE group to show statistically significant improvement in spinal flexibility (p<.05). In effect size, the MRE group was -1.82 (95% CI= -2.24~-1.39), and the SE group was -.7 (95% CI= -1.15~-.41). Conclusion: Myofascial release exercise for the erector spine muscles using an inflatable compression therapy ball was more effective in improving spinal flexibility than stretching exercises for the erector spinae muscles. However, although myofascial release exercise using inflatable compression therapy ball is more effective than stretching exercise, it is insignificant, and research is also insignificant. It is believed that more diverse studies using props will be needed in the future.

수중운동과 슬링운동이 척주옆굽음증을 가진 젊은 성인의 척추각과 유연성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Aquatic Exercise versus Sling Exercise on Spinal Angle and Flexibility in Young Adults with Scoliosis)

  • PURPOSE: This study assessed the exercise programs for improving the spinal angle and trunk flexibility by applying the aquatic exercise and sling exercise to young adults with scoliosis. METHODS: The subjects were 14 participants diagnosed with scoliosis. They were assigned randomly either to an aquatic exercise group (n=7) that received the WATSU exercise program or to a sling exercise group (n=7) that received a sling exercise program. The exercise program was 50 minutes once, three times a week, 12 times for four weeks. The spinal angle and flexibility were measured using the Cobb's angle and modified sit and reach test, respectively. Two variables were analyzed before and after the intervention, and the aquatic exercise group and sling exercise group were compared. RESULTS: After the intervention, the Cobb's angle decreased significantly, and the flexibility increased significantly in both groups (p<.05). A larger increase in flexibility was observed in the aquatic exercise group than in the sling exercise group (p<.05). CONCLUSION: These results showed that the two exercise programs improved the spine angle and flexibility. The increased flexibility showed that aquatic exercise was more effective than the sling exercise. Therefore, aquatic exercise and sling exercise can be used in the treatment and prevention of scoliosis.

정상성인에 있어 배부근 스트레칭 운동이 척주 유연성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Back Muscle Stretching on the Flexibility of Spinal Column of Normal Adults)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of back muscle stretching on the flexibility of spinal column. Methods : The subjects were consisted of healthy adults (18 of females, 22 males ; mean aged 21.83) from 18 to 29. All subjects randomly assigned to the control group, back muscle stretching group. back muscle stretching group received back muscles stretching for 20 minutes per day and 3 times a week during 3 week period. Spine motion analyzer (Spinal Mouse) was used to measure the flexibility of spinal column. All measurement of each subjects were measured at pre-experiment, after 10 days, and after 21 days. Results : The results of this study were summarized below 1. The sacral tilt angle of the hip joint of control group, back muscle stretching group was no significantly differences at pre-experiment and after 10 days(p>0.5), but differency of each group occurred at after 21 days(p<0.5). the sacral tilt angle significantly increased at the back muscle stretching group rather than the control group. 2. The thoracic vertebral tilt angle of the control group, back muscle stretching group was no significantly differences at pre-experiment, after 10 days, after 21 days(p>0.5). 3. The lumbar vertebral tilt angle of the control group, back muscle stretching group was no significantly differences at pre-experiment, after 10 days, after 21 days(p>0.5). 4. Additional randomized controlled trials to more fully investigate treatment effects and factors that may mediate these effects are needed.

Effects of Breathing Exercise of Pilates on Dysfunction and Lumbar Flexibility in Patients with Chronic Non-Specific Low Back Pain

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Pilates breathing exercises on functional disability and lumbar flexibility in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: 30 patients with non-specific low back pain were selected and classified into an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). Both groups were assessed for functional disability using the Oswestry Disability Index and flexibility of the lumbar spine using the modified-modified Schober test before and after the intervention. The intervention was applied twice a week for four weeks. The experimental group performed Pilates breathing exercises followed by spinal stabilization exercises, while the control group only performed spinal stabilization exercises. Results: Both groups showed significant improvements in functional disability and lumbar flexibility after the intervention. However, when comparing between the two groups, the experimental group showed a more significant effect than the control group. Conclusions: The combination of Pilates breathing exercises and spinal stabilization exercises can be considered an effective approach to improve low back pain and prevent chronic pain in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain.

청소년기 척추측만증 환자에 대한 슬링운동이 척추유연성과 동적 균형에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Sling Exercise on Spinal Flexibility and Dynamic Balance in Adolescent Scoliosis Patients)

  • Background: The purpose of this study was compare and analyze the flexibility and dynamic balance in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis and provide scientific basis for effectively treating idiopathic scoliosis. Methods: The subjects of this study were 20 members of adolescences. To measure the flexibility of the spine, a left buckling instrument was used, and it was measured using a modified sit and reach test. They were randomly divided into core exercise with sling program group (n=10) and general exercise program group (n=10), each consisting 50 minutes each for 4 times per week for 8 weeks. Results: The results of the study are as follows. First, Both groups were increased statistically significantly in spinal flexibility but no significant differences have been found between the two groups after 8 weeks of exercise. Second, Both groups were increased statistically significantly in balance ability of dynamic foot pleasure ratio but no significant differences have been found between the two groups after 8 weeks of exercise. Conclusion: In summarizing the results of this study, sling exercise with core exercise was effective in the decrease of flexibility and stability than general scoliosis exercise in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. It is also believed to be applicable to spinal diseases caused by muscular weakness since it is effective in strengthening core muscle strength.

경호원들의 코어프로그램 수행과 요추부 기능개선에 관한 연구 (Effects of Core Exercise Program on the Low Back Function in Private Guard and Security)

  • 인간의 요추는 똑바로 선 자세에서 골반 위에 있는 근육과 인대들에 의해 고정되어 있다. 인간이 움직일 때 마다 중심을 잡아주고, 근 골격계 구조를 적절히 유지시키는 요추부근육들을 효과적으로 스트레칭하고, 강화하여 노화로 인한 '건강의 약화'에서 벗어날 수 있다고 주장하였다. 이와 같은 요부안정화근육 강화는 요추부 재활과 운동 수행능력까지도 증가시킨다. 이 연구는 척추 강화 운동 요추 안정화 운동을 요추부의 근력, 유연성 및 균형, 요추 기능에 (코어프로그램)의 효과를 조사했다. 이 연구의 대상은 민간 경비 회사에 등록된 18명을 선정했다. 각 운동 그룹(n=9)은 무작위로 무선 표집하여 선정됐다. 이 연구의 방법으로 요추부 근력 측정 장비 BTE, 눈금자 줄자, 유연성, 균형과 요추 기능을 사용하였고 이에 따른 결과는 아래에 요약하였다. 굴곡근력 요추 안정화 운동 (핵심 운동) 단체(p<.05)을 개선했다. 신근 근육 강도가 요추 안정화 운동 (코어 프로그램) 그룹(p<.05)을 개선했다. 요추부 유연성 강화 운동 그룹과 요추 안정화 운동 그룹 (p<.05)을 개선했다. 척추의 균형 능력을 강화하는 그룹과 요추 안정화 운동 그룹 (코어 프로그램) 그룹에서 개선되었다(p<.05). 위의 결과에 따른 이 연구에서는 각 개인 경비 및 보안에 척추 강화 운동 요추 안정화 운동의 효과를 보여주어 지속적인 코어프로그램의 활성 방안을 고려해보아야 겠다.

쿠션인솔이 요추 척추관협착증 환자의 유연성 및 운동능력에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Cushion Insole on the Flexibility and Exercise Ability of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 요추 척추관협착증 환자에게 쿠션 인솔을 착용하게 하여서 요추의 유연성과 운동능력에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하는 것이다. 요추 척추관협착증이 있는 26명의 환자를 실험군 13명과 대조군 13명으로 무작위로 배치하였다. 참가자들은 6 주간 하루 2 시간 동안 쿠션인솔을 착용하게 하였다. 실험군은 8mm, 대조군은 4mm 쿠션인솔을 맹검법으로 착용하도록 하였다. 실험군의 굴곡능력 검사에서 $3.38{\pm}3.12$의 유의미한 증가(p<0.05)를 보였으나 다른 검사에서는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다(p>0.05). 결론적으로 쿠션인솔은 요추 척추관협착증 치료를 위한 중재의 방법으로 적합하지 않았다. 차후에 인솔의 높이나 재질을 다르게 하여 더 연구할 필요성이 있다.
