  • Protostellar jets and outflows are signatures of star formation and promising mechanisms for driving supersonic turbulence in molecular clouds. We quantify outflow-driven turbulence through three-dimensional numerical simulations using an isothermal version of the total variation diminishing code. We drive turbulence in real space using a simplified spherical outflow model, analyze the data through density probability distribution functions (PDFs), and investigate density and velocity power spectra. The real-space turbulence-driving method produces a negatively skewed density PDF possessing an enhanced tail on the low-density side. It deviates from the log-normal distributions typically obtained from Fourier-space turbulence driving at low densities, but can provide a good fit at high densities, particularly in terms of mass-weighted rather than volume-weighted density PDF. We find shallow density power-spectra of -1.2. It is attributed to spherical shocks of outflows themselves or shocks formed by the interaction of outflows. The total velocity power-spectrum is found to be -2.0, representative of the shock dominated Burger's turbulence model. Our density weighted velocity power spectrum is measured as -1.6, slightly less that the Kolmogorov scaling values found in previous works.

  • In this paper, the front radiuses of curvature of spherical spectacle lenses in the cosmetic and optical point of view are investigated and are calculated using Zinken-Sommer condition. The optical power of all spherical spectacle lens shows good quality at the test using autometic lensmeter. However the front radiuses of curvature of spherical spectacle lenses are quite different depending on the lens companies. The front radius of curvature of those lenses is larger than that calculated using Zinken-Sommer condition. We know that the front radius of curvature of commercial spectacle lens is emphasized more cosmetic aspect than optical point of view.

  • Purpose: To analyze the effect of accommodative control and change values between subjective refraction (SR) and auto-refraction (AR) according to application of fogging after accommodative stimulation depending on ametropia type. Methods: Myopic ametropia 76 eyes and hyperopic ametropia 52 eyes participated for this study. SR and AR values measured by three test conditions (Before accommodative stimulation; Before AS, After accommodative stimulation; After AS, and After application of fogging; After AF) were compared, respectively. Results: In myopic eyes, (-)spherical power by SR and AR in After AS test was significantly increased as compared to Before AS test, (-)spherical power in After AF test was decreased to the level of Before AS test. The differences of spherical power between SR and AR were highly measured by SR in After AS test, and highly measured by AR in After AF test, respectively. In hyperopic eyes, (+)spherical power of SR significantly decreased in After AS test compared to Before AS test, more (+)spherical power was detected in After AF test compared to Before AS test. (+)spherical power of AR have no significant difference between Before AS and After AS test, but more (+)spherical power was detected in After AF test compared to Before AS test. The differences of (+)spherical power between SR and AR were significant in all test conditions. Among 52 eyes which were measured as hyperopic ametropia, 7 eyes were measured as myopia by SR in After AS test. In case of AR, 25 eyes among 52 eyes were mismeasured as myopia of ranges from -0.25 D to -1.25 D in Before AS test, 26 eyes in After AS test, and 19 eyes in After AF test were mismeasured as myopia of ranges from -0.25 D to -1.25 D. Conclusions: Regardless of ametropia type, accommodative control by After AF test was effective on both refraction process. However, in auto-refraction for hyperopic eyes, the misdetermined proportion of refractive error's type was high due to consistent accommodative intervention in all test condition. Therefore, in order to obtain an accurate value of refractive errors, full correction should be determined by subjective refraction process after fogging method.

  • This paper is to investigate propagation path characteristics of GPS potential jamming signal. To do this, the spherical ground diffraction model is applied to the potential jamming scenario referred to the GPS jamming events occurred in recent years. The fundamental theory on the propagation path loss is discussed and a specific model is applied to several vehicles types which have own heights of antennas in order to compare their propagation path loss values at same 2-D location. The transmitting powers are appropriately given as the ordinary GPS jamming events. And then the received powers in dBW are obtained with given transmitting powers and the estimated total loss. The result of received jamming power at various locations due to the given scenario was distinct. For example, propagation loss values were estimated as -147 ~ -142dBW and -167 ~ -162dBW in $10^6W$ and $10^4W$, respectively. This computation result of the loss can be seriously considered with the tolerable jammer power against L1- C/A GPS receiver under any real jamming situations.

  • Semi-spherical CVT(SS-CVT) is one of friction drives, which transmits power via the friction force between a spherical shaped variator and output disks. The variator varies the speed ratio of SS-CVT continuously as well as transmits input power into the output shaft. Therefore two friction forces are normally applied on the variator; one is the longitudinal friction force for power transmission and the other is the lateral for shifting. In order to investigate the dynamic behavior of SS-CVT, we introduced a numerical model of 2-dimensional friction force using a function of slip ratio and slip angle. And a dynamic model, which describes the shifting mechanism of SS-CVT, is developed through 3-dimensional vector analysis. Finally we presented numerical results of the shift characteristics focused on the transient behavior of the variator's slip ratio and slip angle. The numerical results also show the typical CVT shifting characteristics of SS-CVT and stable shifting behaviors of the variator.

  • The discrete ordinates method (SN) is one of the major shielding calculation method, which is suitable for solving deep-penetration transport problems. Our objective is to explore the available quadrature sets and to improve the accuracy in shielding problems involving strong anisotropy. The linear discontinuous finite-element (LDFE) quadrature sets based on the icosahedron (in short, ICLDFE quadrature sets) are developed by defining projected points on the surfaces of the icosahedron. Weights are then introduced in the integration of the discontinuous finite-element basis functions in the relevant angular regions. The multivariate secant method is used to optimize the discrete directions and their corresponding weights. The numerical integration of polynomials in the direction cosines and the Kobayashi benchmark are used to analyze and verify the properties of these new quadrature sets. Results show that the ICLDFE quadrature sets can exactly integrate the zero-order and first-order of the spherical harmonic functions over one-twentieth of the spherical surface. As for the Kobayashi benchmark problem, the maximum relative error between the fifth-order ICLDFE quadrature sets and references is only -0.55%. The ICLDFE quadrature sets provide better integration precision of the spherical harmonic functions in local discrete angle domains and higher accuracy for simple shielding problems.

  • To increase the efficiency of the hydraulic axial piston pumps, it is need to know the various characteristics in the sliding contact parts of them. Especially, friction characteristics between the cylinder block and the valve plate in the hydraulic axial piston pumps plays an important role to high power density. In this paper, we tried to clarify friction characteristics between the cylinder block and the spherical valve plate in bent-axis-type axial piston pump in experimentally. Results are arranged as follow; (1) friction torque between the cylinder block and the spherical valve plate has a proportional relation to weight or rotational speed, and is strongly affected by temperature. (2) Friction torque strongly depends on force balance ratio in valve plate. (3) In this experiment, lubrication condition between the cylinder block and the spherical valve plate is under hydrodynamic lubrication.

  • In this article, we propose a chi-squared test of spherical symmetry. The advantage of this test is that the test statistic and its asymptotic p-value are easy to compute. The limiting distribution of the test statistic is derived under spherical symmetry and its accuracy, in finite samples, is studied via simulation. Also, a simulation study is conducted in which the power of our test is compared with those of other tests for spherical symmetry in various alternative distributions. Finally, an illustrative example of application to a real data is provided.

  • The present paper develops piezo-thermo-elastic analysis of a thick spherical shell for generalized functionally graded piezoelectric material. The assumed structure is loaded under thermal, electrical and mechanical loads. The mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are graded along the radial direction based on a power function with three different non homogenous indexes. Primarily, the non homogenous heat transfer equation is solved by applying the general boundary conditions, individually. Substitution of stress, strain, electrical displacement and material properties in equilibrium and Maxwell equations present two non homogenous differential equation of order two. The main objective of the present study is to improve the relations between mechanical and electrical loads in hollow spherical shells especially for functionally graded piezoelectric materials. The obtained results can evaluate the effect of every non homogenous parameter on the mechanical and electrical components.
