  • In this paper, we propose a digital method for transmitting audio signals using LED visible light communication system. In the proposed method, we compare the method for transmitting audio signal in analog signal and the method for transmitting by digital signal. When amplifying the audio sound and transmitting the analog signal using the LED visible light communication, attenuation corresponding to the transmission distance occurs, and there is a disadvantage that it is noisy. In order to overcome this, we propose a method for transmitting digital audio signals. The proposed method has the advantage of reducing the influence of noise, but it turned out that it is affected much by the LED blinking speed. Various methods to overcome this need to be continuously studied.

  • The real time monitoring system is developed to detect third party damage imposed on natural gas pipeline and to estimate a damage position in section of pipeline in need of monitoring the third party damage. The monitoring system uses wireless data communication in order to build up data communication network. The availability of monitoring system was evaluated through full scale field damage test at Masan's submarine gas pipeline. It was turned out that the estimation error was one percentage of the propagation speed of damage sound in the gas pipeline.

  • In this paper, a VR-based cyber hiking system was designed to provide virtual reality for famous mountains that can offer the real senses and feelings of hiking in supporting environmental factors of actual mountains such as the temperature, air, sound, echoes, etc., of the mountain the user wants to climb. The VR-based cyber hiking system that reflects real-time site conditions is largely consisted of the data collection module that collects data from the live site, multiple drive modules that enables the user to feel real senses using data from the sites, and sensor module to detect the stimuli provided by the drive modules and the user's physical body transition. Unlike existing VR-based hiking systems, the proposed cyber hiking system not only provides simple virtual reality for the wanted mountain, but can also provide the natural conditions of real mountains and implement the uphill and downhill of hiking routes. In particular, it has the effect of providing fun and game elements to users by excluding unnecessary conditions and risks that may arise in actual hiking and instead supporting augmented realities such as squirrels on actual hiking paths. In addition, in providing users with the changes in their body before and after hiking, it is expected to be effective in providing diverse feedback such as the height, gradient, and speed of mountain hiking.

  • Acoustic behavior in combustion chamber with acoustoc cavity is numerically investigated by adopting linear acoustic analysis. Helmholtz-type resonator is employed as a cavity model to suppress acoustic instability passively. The tuning frequency of acoustic cavity is adjusted by varying the sound speed in acoustic cavity. Through harmonic analysis, acoustic pressure responses of chamber to acoustic oscillating excitation are shown and the resonant acoustic modes are identified. Acoustic damping effect of acoustic cavity is quantified by damping factor. As the tuning frequency approaches the target frequency of the resonant mode to be suppressed, mode split from the original resonant mode to lower and upper modes appears and thereby damping effect is degraded significantly. Considering mode split and damping effect as a function of tuning frequency, it is desirable to make acoustic cavity tuned to maximum frequency of those of the possible splitted upper modes.

  • The precise measurement of ultrasonic power is important to the qualify assurance and the safety of medical ultrasonic equipments In the Present work, a brier theory was introduced to determine the ultrasonic Power from the time valving balance-indication due to the radiation force acting on an absorbing target and/or other causes such as buoyancy during the repetition of on/off behavior of ultrasonic irradiation. The developed automated system measuring the ultrasonic power was described in detail with the precise mechanical alignment tool , the electric signal generation network, the control and measurement network and the appropriate procedure. The ultrasonic power measured by the developed system was compared to the reference data calibrated by the other national metrology institute at 1 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz, and 15 MHz over the range 10 mW to 10 W. Their relative differences are within $5\%$.

  • Water levels are measured in various fields such as sewage treatment plants, water treatment plants, rivers, dams, factory storages' tanks. Ultrasonic instruments for water level measurement are expensive and are used for industrial field. Rapid advances in electronics have made it possible to build a wide variety of measurement, monitoring and control functions at low cost. This study was started to make ultrasonic level measurement system at low price. The system was constructed with an Arduino, an ultrasonic sensor and a temperature sensor for use in the experiment. The ultrasonic sensor measures the time from the sensor to the liquid surface. The temperature sensor measures the atmospheric temperature and improves the accuracy of the ultrasonic distance measurement by correcting the sound speed. Arduino controls measurements and calculates the water level. All components of the system are assembled into a device holder. Experiments with this system show that the water level measured by the system is very close to the actual value. This system is also inexpensive and easy to install and maintain, making it suitable for laboratory use.

  • One of the effective countermeasures for preventing traffic accidents is to provide traffic safety warning information to drivers. Provision of warning information would lead to safer driving to avoid accident occurrence. This study investigated the effects of in-vehicle warning information on driver's behavior. A variety of warning information contents using text, sound, and pictograms were prepared for the field experiments. Individual vehicle speed and acceleration data, which represent quantitative drivers' behavior in response to in-vehicle warning information, were collected using differential global positioning systems (DGPS). Statistical analyses including ANOVA and Tukey's pairwise comparison were conducted. It is expected that the results could be invaluable for designing more effective warning information.

  • In underwater communications, there are many challenges due to energy limitations, long propagation delay, low data rate, and high power loss, unlike terrestrial RF communications. Especially, the propagation delay of underwater acoustic channel is five orders of magnitude higher than in electro-magnetic terrestrial channels due to the low speed of sound(1,500m/s). Thus, the MAC protocols for terrestrial communications are not suitable for underwater network. In this paper, we studied the considerations for MAC protocol in underwater acoustic channel. Here, we concentrated on CSMA based MAC protocols. From the results, we confirmed that the number of control packets has an important effect on the performance in underwater environment. These results would be useful in designing MAC protocols for underwater acoustic communications.

  • This paper represents the statistical characteristics of sources and receptors for road traffic noise in apartment complex. Also we suggested that the site-specific characteristics of vertical and horizontal distributions in the complex apartment have been derived using a different analysis for evaluating levels of Leq1h by the apartment floor at a given distance from a road in terms of the flow rate, the mean speed of the traffic, and the percentage of the type vehicles in the day and night periods. As a result, the contribution orders of traffic quantity by the type of vehicles showed as followed: light vehicle>medium vehicle>heavy vehicle>motorcycle. Especially, the mixing ratio of entering the road on the heavy vehicle in the daytime was two times higher than that of in the night. The speed in all types of vehicle is in the range of 41 and 81 km/hr and noise level was not significantly different in day and night-time. The sources of road traffic noise had different variations and uncertainties using a random variable and probability distribution. The sound distribution to receptors by the apartment floor showed S curve between 1st floor and $15^{th}$ floor With the normality test, the normal distributions using Anderson-Darling Test followed $1^{st},\;3^{th},\;13^{th}$ and $15^{th}$, floor in the daytime and all floors except $7^{th}$ floor in the night (p>0.05). And also, the value of the pearson correlation coefficient (r) obtained in this study have significantly different at the range of floor. In conclusion, the results suggested that the distribution characteristics of levels of $Leq_{1h}$ on the sources and receptors of road traffic noise in apartment complex must be improved and developed on the guideline of regulation of road traffic noise.
