A Clustered Dwarf Structure to Speed up Queries on Data Cubes

  • Dwarf is a highly compressed structure, which compresses the cube by eliminating the semantic redundancies while computing a data cube. Although it has high compression ratio, Dwarf is slower in querying and more difficult in updating due to its structure characteristics. We all know that the original intention of data cube is to speed up the query performance, so we propose two novel clustering methods for query optimization: the recursion clustering method which clusters the nodes in a recursive manner to speed up point queries and the hierarchical clustering method which clusters the nodes of the same dimension to speed up range queries. To facilitate the implementation, we design a partition strategy and a logical clustering mechanism. Experimental results show our methods can effectively improve the query performance on data cubes, and the recursion clustering method is suitable for both point queries and range queries.

협동 병렬 X-Match 데이타 압축 알고리즘 (The Cooperative Parallel X-Match Data Compression Algorithm)

  • X-Match 알고리즘은 비교적 간단하여 하드웨어로 구현하는 데에 적합한 무손실 압축 알고리즘이다. X-Match 알고리즘은 사이클 당 32비트의 압축이 가능하므로 고속 압축에 적합하다. 그렇지만 버스 폭이 증가됨에 따라서 이에 맞추어서 압축 단위를 증가시킬 필요가 있게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 X-Match 알고리즘을 병렬로 수행하여 압축 속도를 2배 향상시키고 X-Match 알고리즘 거의 비슷한 압축률을 제공하는 협동 병렬 X-Match 알고리즘, 즉 X-MatchCP 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기존의 병렬 X-Match 알고리즘이 X-Match 알고리즘을 병렬로 수행할 매에 각자의 사전을 검색하는 데 비해서 X-MatchCP 알고리즘에서는 X-Match 알고리즘이 병렬로 수행되지만 전체 사전을 검색하여 매칭빈도를 높이도록 하였고 run-length 부호화도 두 워드에 대해서 한꺼번에 하는 방식으로 서로 협동하면서 동작한다 메모리 데이타와 파일 자료를 사용한 시뮬레이션 결과 X-MatchCP 알고리즘은 같은 사전 크기의 X-Match 알고리즘과 거의 비슷한 압축률을 보였다. 그리고 X-MatchCP 알고리즘의 하드웨어 구현을 위한 전체적인 구조 설계를 Verilog 언어를 사용하여 수행하였다.

볼륨 데이터를 위한 셀 기반 웨이브릿 압축 기법 (Cell-Based Wavelet Compression Method for Volume Data)

  • 본 논문은 방대한 크기의 볼륨 데이타를 효율적으로 렌더링하기 위한 셀 기반 웨이브릿 압축 방법을 제시한다. 이 방법은 볼륨을 작은 크기의 셀로 나누고, 셀 단위로 웨이브릿 변환을 한 다음 복원 순서에 따른 런-길이(run-length) 인코딩을 수행하여 높은 압축율과 빠른 복원을 제공한다. 또한 최근 복원 정보를 캐쉬 자료 구조에 효율적으로 저장하여 복원 시간을 단축시키고, 에러 임계치의 정규화로 비정규화된 웨이브릿 압축보다 빠른 속도로 정규화된 압축과 같은 고화질의 이미지를 생성하였다. 본 연구의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 {{}} 해상도의 볼륨 데이타를 압축하여 쉬어-? 분해(shear-warp factorization) 알고리즘에 적용한 결과, 손상이 거의 없는 상태로 약 27:1의 압축율이 얻어졌고, 약 3초의 렌더링 시간이 걸렸다.Abstract This paper presents an efficient cell-based wavelet compression method of large volume data. Volume data is divided into individual cell of {{}} voxels, and then wavelet transform is applied to each cell. The transformed cell is run-length encoded according to the reconstruction order resulting in a fairly good compression ratio and fast reconstruction. A cache structure is used to speed up the process of reconstruction and a threshold normalization scheme is presented to produce a higher quality rendered image. We have combined our compression method with shear-warp factorization, which is an accelerated volume rendering algorithm. Experimental results show the space requirement to be about 27:1 and the rendering time to be about 3 seconds for {{}} data sets while preserving the quality of an image as like as using original data.

압착시험 조건이 게맛살의 조직감 지표에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Compression Test Conditions on the Textural Parameters of Imitation Crab-leg Product)

  • 게맛살의 관능적 조직감특성을 기계적인 측정방법을 이용하여 정량적으로 나타내기 위하여 Texture Analyser (TX-XT2, England)의 측정조건을 달리한 기계적 조직감 지표(T.P.A.)를 구하였으며, 그 결과를 관능검사 결과와 비교하였다. 부수적으로 어묵과의 조직감 차이도 조사하였다. 본 실험에 사용한 시료는 국내에서 제조판매되고 있는 5종류의 게맛살과 2종류의 어묵을 서울시내 백화점에서 구입하여 사용하였다. 게맛살과 어묵의 조직감에 대한 기계적 측정치는 경도 및 응집성, 특히 씹힘성과 껌성에서 어묵이 높은 값을 보이며 게맛살과 커다란 차이를 보였다. 평판 탐침의 직경변화$({\varphi}12.5\;mm,\;{\varphi}24.6\;mm)$가 맛살의 조직감 변수에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과 경도와 응집성은 탐침의 직경이 증가함에 따라 증가하였으며 탄력성은 감소하였다. 압착율의 변화(60, 70, 80%)에 대한 조직감 변수의 영향은 압착율이 증가시 경도는 증가한 반면 응집성과 탄력성은 감소하였다. 변형속도가 0.8에서 2.4 mm/sec로 증가함에 따라 씹힘성, 껌성, 응집성 및 경도가 약간 증가하였다. 경도, 응집성 및 씹힘성이 기계적 측정치들과 관능검사 결과들간에 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다. 결론적으로 게맛살의 조직감에 대한 관능검사를 대신할 기계적 측정조건은 시료 직경의 약 2배가 되는 직경 24.6 mm의 평판 탐침으로, 변형속도 2.4 mm/sec에서 60%의 변형율로 2회 반복압착하여 얻은 힘-거리 곡선을 분석하는 것이 본 실험 범위내에서 바람직한 것으로 판단된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 HDTV 신호를 디지털 VTR에 저장하기 위한 웨이브렛 변환 기반 압축 방법을 제안하였다. 웨이브렛 기반 압축 방법은 기존에 잘 알려져 있는 DCT를 기반으로 한 압축 방법과는 다르게 낮은 주파수 영역에서 공간 영역의 정보를 그대로 유지하고 있다. 그러므로 웨이브렛 기반 압축 방법의 이러한 특성은 VTR의 편집 및 변속 기능에 매우 적합하다. 또한 본 논문에서 사용한 웨이브렛 변환 필터는 쉬프트 연산과 덧셈만으로 곱셈을 대체할 수 있으므로 계산상의 복잡도를 감소시킬 수 있었다. 4:1 정도 압축시 복원된 HDTV 신호는 방송용으로 사용하기에 충분한 화질을 유지했다.

고속다기통 및 회전식 압축기의 체적효율 (A STUDY ON THE VOLUMETRIC EFFICIENCY OF HIGH SPEED MULTI-CYLINDER AND ROTARY COMPRESSOR)

  • Volumetric efficiency is a determining factor for tile measurement of compessor capacity, but it is practically hard to take an accurate measurement of capacity characteritics so that most of users trust the data of makers catalogue. We often realized the discrepancy in their data with actual capacity. This study was attemped to establish the basic data of capacity characteristics of compressor by measuring volumetric efficiency of high speed multi-cylinder compressor and rotary compressor. The volumetric efficiency was calculated based on the quantity of the flow of ammonia vapor and pressure difference in suction state of orifice plate and compressor. The volumetric efficiency of high speed multi-cylinder compressor was $37-61\%$ and that of rotary compressor was $57-82\%$ when compression ratio was in the range of 4-12. The discrepancy in volumetric efficiency at an equal evaporating temperature between the makers catalogue and the measured data was $5.5\%$.

Miller 사이클을 이용한 중형 디젤 기관 성능 개선 (Improving the performance of a Medium Speed Diesel Engine Using Miller Cycle)

  • Miller cycle was studied and analyzed by engine performance simulation to achieve very low fuel consumption and to meet the IMO NOx regulation on a medium speed diesel engine. Based on the performance simulation results the intake valve closing time for HYUNDAI HiMSEN 6H21/32 engine was set at 0deg.ABDC(After Bottom Dead Center). Also, the simulation results indicated that significant NOx reduction could be achieved with low reduction of fuel consumption. The performance simulation investigated the effect of compression ratio and turbocharger on fuel consumption and NOx concentration in combination with Miller cycle. The results indicated a significant reduction of fuel consumption with keeping NOx concentration. The results of performance simulation were compared with measured data to verify simulation results. The comparison showed the maximum error was 2.34% in exhaust temperature. Also, the experimental result showed that improvement in BSFC(Brake Specific Fuel Consumption) was 5.8g/kwh with keeping NOx level similar to simulation result.

Stiffness effect of testing machine indenter on energy evolution of rock under uniaxial compression

  • When rock burst occurs, the damaged coal, rock and other fragments can be ejected to the roadway at a speed of up to 10 m/s. It is extremely harmful to personnel and mining equipment, and seriously affects the mining activities. In order to study the energy evolution characteristics, especially kinetic energy, in the process of rock mass failure, this paper first analyzes the energy changes of the rock in different stages under uniaxial compression. The formula of the kinetic energy of rock sample considering the energy from the indenter of the testing machine is obtained. Then, the uniaxial compression tests with different stiffness ratios of the indenter and rock sample are simulated by numerical simulation. The kinetic energy Ud, elastic strain energy Ue, friction energy Uf, total input energy U and surface energy Uθ of crack cracking are analyzed. The results show that: The stiffness ratio has influence on the peak strength, peak strain, Ud, Ue, Uθ, Uf and U of rock samples. The variation trends of strength, strain and energy with stiffness are different. And when the stiffness ratio increases to a certain value, if the stiffness of the indenter continues to increase, it will have no longer effect on the rock sample.

Optimum Image Compression Rate Maintaining Diagnostic Image Quality of Digital Intraoral Radiographs

  • Purpose: The aims of the present study are to determine the optimum compression rate in terms of file size reduction and diagnostic quality of the images after compression and evaluate the transmission speed of original or each compressed image. Materials and Methods: The material consisted of 24 extracted human premolars and molars. The occlusal surfaces and proximal surfaces of the teeth had a clinical disease spectrum that ranged from sound to varying degrees of fissure discoloration and cavitation. The images from Digora system were exported in TIFF and the images from conventional intraoral film were scanned and digitalized in TIFF by Nikon SF-200 scanner (Nikon, Japan). And six compression factors were chosen and applied on the basis of the results from a pilot study. The total number of images to be assessed were 336. Three radiologists assessed the occlusal and proximal surfaces of the teeth with 5-rank scale. Finally diagnosed as either sound or carious lesion by one expert oral pathologist. And sensitivity, specificity and k value for diagnostic agreement was calculated. Also the area (Az) values under the ROC curve were calculated and paired t-test and oneway ANOVA test was performed. Thereafter, transmission time of the image files of the each compression level was compared with that of the original image files. Results: No significant difference was found between original and the corresponding images up to 7% (1 : 14) compression ratio for both the occlusal and proximal caries (p<0.05). JPEG3 (1 : 14) image files are transmitted fast more than 10 times, maintained diagnostic information in image, compared with original image files. Conclusion: 1 : 14 compressed image file may be used instead of the original image and reduce storage needs and transmission time.

  • When a high-speed train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates along the tunnel. This wave subsequently emerges form the exit portal of the tunnel, which causes an impulsive noise. In the present study, experimental investigation is carried out on the sonic boom noise with parameters of train speed, blockage ratio, nose shape of train and airshaft. These experimental results show that several countermeasures could be used to efficiently reduce the sonic boom. In addition, numerical analysis is performed to predict the sonic boom. The predicted sound waves are in a good agreement with the experimental results.
