Improving the Rendering Speed of 3D Model Animation on Smart Phones

  • The advancement of technology enables smart phones or handheld devices to render complex 3D graphics. However, the processing power and memory of smart phones remain very limited to render high polygon and details 3D models especially on games which requires animation, physic engine, or augmented reality. In this paper, several techniques will be introduced to speed up the computation and reducing the number of vertices of the 3D meshes without losing much detail.

  • It is well known that preconditioning methods are efficient for convergence acceleration at compressible low Mach number flows. In this study, the original Euler equations and three preconditioners nondimensionalized differently are implemented in two dimensional inviscid bump flows using the 3rd order MUSCL and DADI schemes as flux discretization and time integration respectively. The multigrid and local time stepping methods are also used to accelerate the convergence. The test case indicates that a properly modified local preconditioning technique involving concepts of a global preconditioning one produces Mach number independent convergence. Besides, an asymptotic analysis for properties of preconditioning methods is added.

  • We demonstrated the applicability of dry film photoresist (DFR) in photolithography process for fine pitch solder bumping on the polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE/Teflon) printed circuit board (PCB). The copper lines were formed with $100\;{\mu}m$ width and $18\;{\mu}m$ thickness on the PTFE test board, and varying the gaps between two copper lines in a range of $100-200\;{\mu}m$. The DFRs of $15\;{\mu}m$ thickness were laminated by hot roll laminator, by varying laminating temperature from $100^{\circ}C\;to\;150^{\circ}C$ and laminating speed. We found the optimum process of DFR lamination on PTFE PCB and accomplished the formation of indium solder bumps. The optimum lamination condition was temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ and speed of about 0.63 cm/s. And the smallest size of indium solder bump was diameter of $50\;{\mu}m$ with pitch of $100\;{\mu}m$.

Two-Dimensional Adaptive Mesh Generation Algorithm and its Application with Higher-Order Compressible Flow Solver

  • A combined procedure for two-dimensional Delaunay mesh generation algorithm and an adaptive remeshing technique with higher-order compressible flow solver is presented. A pseudo-code procedure is described for the adaptive remeshing technique. The flux-difference splitting scheme with a modified multidimensional dissipation for high-speed compressible flow analysis on unstructured meshes is proposed. The scheme eliminates nonphysical flow solutions such as the spurious bump of the carbuncle phenomenon observed from the bow shock of the flow over a blunt body and the oscillation in the odd-even grid perturbation in a straight duct for the Quirk's odd-even decoupling test. The proposed scheme is further extended to achieve higher-order spatial and temporal solution accuracy. The performance of the combined procedure is evaluated on unstructured triangular meshes by solving several steady-state and transient high-speed compressible flow problems.

  • This study utilized a high speed lap-shear test to evaluate the mechanical behavior of Sn-37Pb/Cu and Sn-37Pb/Electroless Nickel immersion Gold under bump metallization solder joints under high speed loading and hence the drop reliability. The samples were aged for 120 h at different temperatures ($120^{\circ}C,\;150^{\circ}C,\;170^{\circ}C$) and afterward tested at different displacement rates (0.01 mm/s to 500 mm/s) to examine the effects of aging on the drop life reliability. The combination of the stress-strain graphs captured from the shear tests and identifying a fracture mode dominant in the samples for different strain rates leads us to conclude that the drop reliability of solder joints degrades as the aging temperature increases, possibly due to the role of the IMC layer. This study successfully demonstrates that the analysis based on a high speed lap-shear test could be critically used to evaluate the drop reliability of solder joints.

배연탈황설비 흡수탑 내 연소가스 및 슬러리의 거동에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical Analysis on the Flue Gas Flow and Slurry Behavior in the Absorber of a Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) System)

  • Numerical analysis had been performed to understand flow characteristics of the flue gas and slurry in the absorber of a flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. Two-fluid(Euler-Lagrangian) model had been employed to simulate physical phenomenon, which slurry particles injected through slurry spray nozzles fall down and bump into the flue gas inflowing through inlet duct. It was not necessary to adopt pre-defined pressure drop inside the absorber because interaction between flue gas and slurry particles was considered. Hundreds of slurry spray nozzles were considered with the spray velocity at the nozzles, swirl velocity and spreading angle. The results note that the flow disturbance of flue gas is found at the bottom of the absorber, and the current rising with high speed stream is observed in the opposite region of the inflow duct. The high speed stream is reduced as the flue gas goes up, because the high speed stream of flue gas dumps falling slurry particles due to momentum exchange between flue gas and slurry particles. In spite of some disproportion in slurry distribution inside the absorber, escape of slurry particles from the absorber facility is not observed. The pressure drop inside the absorber is mainly occurred at the bottom section.

콤바인 선별실(選別室)의 기류선별(氣流選別)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Pneumatic Separation on Separating Unit of a Combine Harvester)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the pneumatic separation on separating unit of a combine harvester. The aerodynamic characteristics of threshed materials were analyzed by experiments. The air velocity distribution within the separation chamber was measured for various speeds of the winnower and suction fans to find out the operational and design conditions of the separating unit which would serve for reducing the grain loss from chaff outlet. The results of study arc summarized as follows: 1. Based on the separation curve of threshed materials analyzed, it was shown that three different kind. of materials-kernels, straw chaff, and leaf chaff were as a whole able to be separated pneumatically, regardless of varieties. However, a small amount of the separation grain loss may be expected to occur if the complete separation between kernels and straw chaff would be undertaken because some portion of their separation curve were overlapping. 2. The analysis of air velocity distribution showed that the separation chamber may be divided into two regions, the discharging and separating. The air velocity of the discharging region was 5-15 m/s and that of the separating region 2-5 m/s. 3. The air movement of the separation chamber may be a turbulence flow, being its speed became greater as it moves from the left to the right section of the separation chamber. The equi-speed line. of air flow had a steep gradient in between the discharging and the separation regions. The air velocity in the discharging region was much higher than the terminal velocity of kernels, because of which those kernels appearing in the region could be possibly exhausted as the grain loss from the chaff outlet. 4. The motion trajectory of threshed material in the separating region was dominantly affected by the winnower fan, on the other hand, its motion in the discharging region was affected by suction fan. 5. The grain loss from the chaff outlet was affected greatly by the winnower fan and the trace of kernel movement. It was observed that the optimum working speed to give minimum grain loss from chaff outlet for the combine tested should be maintained at 950~1,150 rpm for the winnower fan and 1,850 rpm for the suction fan. 6. It was shown that a large portion of grain loss from chaff outlet may occur when the kernels may bump against a portion of separation chamber wall and those kernels thus scattered into the discharging region were sucked by the suction fan. It was accordingly recommended that a new design of the wall of separation chamber so as to bump down kernels may be necessary to reduce grain loss from the chaff outlet.

압전 캔틸레버 구조를 이용한 도로용 에너지 하베스터의 개발 및 평가 (Development and Evaluation of the Road Energy Harvester Using Piezoelectric Cantilevers)

  • A road energy harvester was designed and fabricated to convert mechanical energy from the vehicle load to electrical energy. The road energy harvester is composed of 24 piezoelectric cantilevers and a vehicle load transfer mechanism. Applying a vehicle load transfer mechanism rather than directly installing energy harvesters under roads decreases the area of road construction and allows more energy harvesters to be installed on the side of the road. The power generation amount with respect to the vehicular velocity change was assessed by installing the vehicle load transfer mechanism and the energy harvester in the form of speed bumps and underground. The energy harvester installed in a speed bump form generated power of 7.61 mW at the vehicular velocity of 20 km/h. Also, power generation of the energy harvester installed in the underground form was 63.9 mW at the vehicular velocity of 28 km/h. Although the number of piezoelectric cantilevers was reduced by 1/3 to 24 in comparison to the previous research results with 72 piezoelectric cantilevers, similar power generation characteristic value was obtained within the vehicular velocity of 20 km/h by altering the vehicle load transfer mechanism and cantilever vibration method.

회전각가속도가 가스 포일 스러스트 베어링의 마찰 및 마모 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Angular Acceleration on the Friction and Wear Characteristics of Gas Foil Thrust Bearings)

  • This study experimentally investigates the effects of angular acceleration on the friction and wear performances of a gas foil thrust bearing (GFTB) using a typical GFTB with six pads. The outer radius of the bearing is 31.5 mm, the total bearing area is 2,041 mm2 , and the bump foil and incline (ramp) height are both 500 ㎛. The newly developed GFTB test rig for measuring the friction torque and coefficient measures the axial load, drag torque, lift-off speed, and touch-down speed. The experiment is conducted for angular accelerations of 78.5, 314.2, and 328.3 rad/s2 at axial loads of 5, 10, and 15 N, respectively. The test shows that the start-up friction coefficient increases with increasing axial load at the same angular acceleration, and the friction coefficient decreases with increasing angular acceleration under the same axial load. As the angular acceleration increases, the lift-off speed at the motor start-up increases, and the touch-down speed at the motor stop decreases. The wear distance of the GFTB for a single on/off cycle increases with increasing axial load at the same angular acceleration and decreases nonlinearly with increasing angular acceleration under the same axial load. The test results suggest that adjusting the rotational angular acceleration helps reduce bearing friction and wear.

휠체어 사용자를 위한 열차 탑승 장치 설계와 용접 조건 (A Study of Board the Train Designed for Wheelchair Users on Welding Condition)

  • The ratio of mobility handicapped was 12,110,000 in late 2009 about 24.4% of total population. The number of handicapped population is increasing continuously due to traffic accidents and industrial disasters. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to suggest a design for passengers on wheelchairs to get into and off to raise handicapped or elderly people's right of mobility. The scope of this research is mobility handicapped especially wheelchair passengers who use vans, small buses, and trains. The ramp design of vans is module form. The ramp is moved with screw jack and guides are installed on each side to increase stability. Moreover, a bridge was installed for smooth getting in and off of the van. The ramp design for small bus is lowed by 200m in order not to have obstacle such as speed bump when getting in or off. In order to reduce vulnerable environment and administration, air slide cylinder was chosen. Lastly, for the ramp design of train, the principle of link was used that the simpler structure made the weight lighter and installation in the train became easier. If we look at the conjugation condition of heterogeneous materials to produce a ramp, proper welding condition for cold steel plate and stainless plate is 3kW output and 3-5m/min of welding speed using laser beam seems proper.
