  • Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is a technology component for long-term evolution-advanced (LTE-A). In D2D communication, users in close proximity to each other can communicate directly without going through a base station; such direct communication can improve spectral efficiency. Although D2D communication brings improvement in spectral efficiency, it also causes interference to the cellular network as a result of spectrum sharing. In particularly, D2D communication can generate interference for each D2D pair when the common wireless medium in a co-located limited area is accessed. Even though the interference management for between the D2D pair and cellular networks has been proposed, the interference reducing methods have still not been fully studied for the D2D pairs. In this paper, we investigate the problem of D2D pair coexistence in which interference is considered between D2D pairs. Using a signal to interference model for a target D2D pair, we provide an analysis of the aggregated throughput of a dense D2D network. For a target D2D pair, we assume that the desired signal and interference signals obey multipath fading and shadow fading. Through analysis, we demonstrate the effect of cluster size such as the number of D2D pairs and the size of the considered area on the network performance. The analytical results are compared with computer simulations. Our work can be used for a rough guideline for controlling the system throughput in a dense D2D network environment.

  • Hexamer cluster of N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF) based on the crystal structure was investigated for the equilibrium structure, the stabilization energies, and the vibrational properties in the density functional force field. The geometry (point group $C_i$) of fully optimized hexamer clustered DMF shows quite close similarity to the crystal structure weakly intermolecular hydrogen bonded each other. Stretching force constants for intermolecular hydrogen bonded methyl and formyl hydrogen atoms with nearby oxygen atom, methyl C–H${\cdots}$O and formyl C–H${\cdots}$O, were obtained in 0.055 $\sim$ 0.11 and $\sim$ 0.081 mdyn/$\AA$, respectively. In-plane bending force constants for hydrogen bonded methyl hydrogen atoms were in 0.25 $\sim$ 0.33, and for formyl hydrogen $\sim$ 0.55 mdynÅ. Torsion force constants through hydrogen bonding for methyl hydrogen atoms were in 0.038 $\sim$ 0.089, and for formyl hydrogen atom $\sim$ 0.095 mdynÅ. Calculated Raman and infrared spectral features of single and hexamer cluster represent well the experimental spectra of DMF obtained in the liquid state. Noncoincidence between IR and Raman frequency positions of stretching C=O, formyl C–H and other several modes was interpreted in terms of the intermolecular vibrational coupling in the condensed phase.

  • The behavior of tyrosine(Tyr.) residue of Bombyx mori silk fiber from yellow fluorescent cocoon has been examined for the dependence of pH in aqueous silk solution under the presence of orange II salt. Through the peak separation of angular dependence of spectral pattern of 15N-Tyr. and [1-13C]-Tyr. between the fiber axis and the molecular bond direction, N-H bond in fiber as well as the orientation distribution around the fiber axis were analyzed. Also, and sericin component was obtained from these angular dependence of oriented spectral pattern. The pH dependence of the 13C NMR chemical shift of B. mori silk fibroin was examined in aqueous solution in the presince of orange II are broad at pH$\geq$7.0. However, these become sharper at pH$\geq$8.0 and remain sharp at higher pH. In these higher pH range, a chemical shift change occurs due to the deprotonation of the Tyr. side group of fibroin. At higher pH. such a hydrophobic cluster is destroyed because of the electrostatic interaction according to the deprotonation of the Tyr-OH group.

  • The Sausage radio relic is the arc-like radio structure in the cluster CIZA J2242.8+5301, whose observed properties can be best understood by synchrotron emission from relativistic electrons accelerated at a merger-driven shock. However, there remain a few puzzles that cannot be explained by the shock acceleration model with only in-situ injection. In particular, the Mach number inferred from the observed radio spectral index, Mradio ≈ 4.6, while the Mach number estimated from X-ray observations, MX−ray ≈ 2.7. In an attempt to resolve such a discrepancy, here we consider the re-acceleration model in which a shock of Ms ≈ 3 sweeps through the intracluster gas with a pre-existing population of relativistic electrons. We find that observed brightness profiles at multi frequencies provide strong constraints on the spectral shape of pre-existing electrons. The models with a power-law momentum spectrum with the slope, s ≈ 4.1, and the cutoff Lorentz factor, γe,c ≈ 3−5×104, can reproduce reasonably well the observed spatial profiles of radio fluxes and integrated radio spectrum of the Sausage relic. The possible origins of such relativistic electrons in the intracluster medium remain to be investigated further.

  • The objective of this study was to explore the potential of front face fluorescence spectroscopy (FFFS) as rapid, non-destructive and inclusive technique along with multi-variate analysis for predicting meat adulteration. For this purpose (FFFS) was used to discriminate pure minced beef meat and adulterated minced beef meat containing (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%) of chicken meat as an adulterant in uncooked beef meat samples. Fixed excitation (290 nm, 322 nm, and 340 nm) and fixed emission (410 nm) wavelengths were used for performing analysis. Fluorescence spectra were acquired from pure and adulterated meat samples to differentiate pure and binary mixtures of meat samples. Principle component analysis, partial least square regression and hierarchical cluster analysis were used as chemometric tools to find out the information from spectral data. These chemometric tools predict adulteration in minced beef meat up to 10% chicken meat but are not good in distinguishing adulteration level from 1% to 5%. The results of this research provide baseline for future work for generating spectral libraries using larger datasets for on-line detection of meat authenticity by using fluorescence spectroscopy.

  • We present the results of far-infrared spectral mapping of the Galactic center region with FIS-FTS, which covered the two massive star-forming clusters, Arches and Quintuplet. We find that two dust components with temperatures of about 20 K and 50 K are required to fit the overall continuum spectra. The warm dust emission is spatially correlated with the [OIII] $88{\mu}m$ emission and both are likely to be associated with the two clusters, while the cool dust emission is more widely distributed without any clear spatial correlation with the clusters. We find differences in the properties of the ISM around the two clusters, suggesting that the star-forming activity of the Arches cluster is at an earlier stage than that of the Quintuplet cluster.

  • The optical lightcurves of flare events can be regarded as a direct indicator about the existence of magnetic activity in low-mass stars. Stellar flares are generated by magnetodynamic processes in the stellar interiors as on the Sun and indicate that the locally intensified active regions still exist on the photosphere. However previous photometric observations are limited to a few selected active objects because of their faintness and randomness of the flare occurrence. Based on dedicated deep (r~23), long-term (24 night) time-series monitoring of the open cluster M37 from MMT 6.5m transit survey program, we searched for flare-like transient phenomena in the 3,052 M-dwarf lightcurves with relatively high-temporal resolution (30s-90s). In order to collect all statistical significant events, we applied the change-point analysis with filtering algorithm using local statistics. We found a number of flares from 412 M-dwarf stars that are probable cluster members. Nearly half of them have periodic brightness variations with a near or distorted sinusoidal shape. With a small exception of binary cases, most of these variations appear to reflect the presence of large starspots resulting in rotational brightness modulations. We will discuss the relationship among magnetic activity indicators and dependence on spectral type.

  • We present a result of a statistical studies on nuclear activities of compact group galaxies. It is suggested that the galaxy interaction can trigger the nuclear activity by producing the gas inflow to the center of galaxies. To understand the connection between galaxy interaction and nuclear activity, we study the fraction of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) host galaxies in compact groups, known as the most favored environment for galaxy interaction. We select 59 spectroscopically confirmed compact groups in the SDSS DR6. Using the emission line ratio, we determine the spectral types of compact group galaxies and obtain the fraction of AGN-host galaxies. We compare this fraction with those in other galaxy environments. For the early type galaxies, we find that the AGN fraction of compact group galaxies are lower than field galaxies, but higher than cluster galaxies. On the other hand, the AGN fraction of compact group galaxies is similar to those for field and cluster environment for the late type galaxies. Implications of this result will be discussed.

  • We present a photometric study of star clusters in the nuclear starburst region of NGC 253 using gVI, YJ, and H band images in the Hubble Space Telescope archive. We find about one thousand star clusters in about 200"x200" field by visual inspection with I<21. We also find about ten thousand star clusters in the same field by automated classification method with magnitude range of 21< I $$\leq_-$$ 24. Ages and masses of star clusters are estimated using spectral energy distribution fitting method. Age distribution of star cluster shows two distinguished young populations with peak ages at 3.5 Myr and 18 Myr. Old populations (>100 Myr) are exist, but their number is small. About thirty young massive star clusters (<10 Myr, ) are found in nuclear region of NGC 253 which are regarded as a result of the recent starburst. Mass function of young star clusters in NGC 253 is somewhat different with those of star clusters in other galaxies. This result suggests that initial cluster mass functions (ICMFs) for star clusters are not universial. Especially ICMF in starburst galaxies may be distinguishable compared with those in normal spiral galaxies. We discuss the implications of these results.
