The effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of exhaust emissions and specific fuel consumption have been investigated using an eight-cylinder, four cycle, direct injection diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The experiments in this study are conducted on the fixed fuel injection timing of $38^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of experimental conditions. In conclusion, it is found that $NO_{x}$ emission is markedly reduced with the drop of burnt gas temperature at high speeds and loads especially as the EGR rate increases, while the soot particulate rises with EGR rate and load at a given engine speed, especially high loads. The reduction of exhaust emissions within the Korea heavy duty diesel engine emission standards can be roughly achieved by the optimal EGR rate without degarding the specific fuel consumption, based on the correlations between exhaust emissions.

Mobile source emissions are important inputs to photochemical air quality models. Since most mobile source emissions are calculated at the county-level, these emission should be geographically allocated to the computational grid cells of a photochemical air quality model prior to running the model. The traditional method for the spatial allocation of these emissions has been to use a "spatial surrogate indicator" such as population, since grid-specific emission calculations are very labor-intensive and expensive, plus the necessary data are often not available for such grid resolutions. Accordingly, new spatial surrogate indicators for mobile source emissions(specifically for highway emissions) were developed using Geographic Information Systems(GIS) tools due to the spatially variable nature of mobile source emissions. These newly developed spatial surrogate indicators appear to be more appropriate for the allocation of highway emissions than the population surrogate indicator. It was also revealed that the conventional spatial allocation method underestimates the maximum levels of air pollutant emmissions.mmissions.

The NO emissions at the exhaust manifo1d were investigated with a fast NO analyzer to investigate the cycle-by-cycle variations on NO emissions level and the dependence of NO emissions on combustion. The measurement was performed with a part load condition with respect to the mixture ratios and the changes in loads at 1800rpm. The averaged values were obtained during 200 cycles. We found that there is characteristic pattern in 70 emissions from exhaust port and it was possible to set a representative value with the data sampled during specific period. As the load increased, the characteristics of NO emissions were more dependent on combustion pressures. It was also analyzed that the correlation between combustion pressures and NO emissions for different equivalence ratios tends to increase as the mixture goes leaner, Furthermore, this correlation for the lean mixture near the lean limit seemed to be kept.
The EGR system has been widely used to reduce nitrogen oxides (NO$\_$x/) emission, to improve fuel economy and suppress knock by using the characteristics of charge dilution. However, as the EGR rate at a given engine operating condition increases, the combustion instability increases. The combustion instability increases cyclic variations resulting in the deterioration of engine performance and emissions. Therefore, the optimum EGR rate should be carefully determined in order to obtain the better engine performance and emissions. An experimental study has been performed to investigate the effects of EGR on combustion stability, engine performance,70x and the other exhaust emissions from 1.5 liter gasoline engine. Operating conditions are selected from the test result of the high speed and high acceleration region of SFTP mode which generates more NO$\_$x/ and needs higher engine speed compared to FTP-75 (Federal Test Procedure) mode. Engine power, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions are measured with various EGR rate. Combustion stability is analyzed by examining the variation of indicated mean effective pressure (COV$\_$imep/) and the timings of maximum pressure (P$\_$max/) location using pressure sensor. Engine performance is analyzed by investigating engine power and maximum cylinder pressure and brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC)

The effects of recirculated exhaust gas on the characteristics of fuel economy combustion and exhaust emissions have been experimentally investigated by a four-cylinder four cycle indirect injection water-cooled and marine diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. in order to reduce the soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to intake system of the engine a novel diesel soot removal system with a cylinder-type scrubber which has 6 water injectors(A water injector has 144 nozzles in 1.0 mm diameter) is specially designed and manufactured for the experiment system The experiments in this study are performed at the fixed fuel injection timing of $15.3^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of experimental conditions, The brake specific fuel consumption rate is slightly fluctuated with EGR in the range of experimental conditions, The maximum value of premixed combustion for the rate of heat release is decreased with EGR at engine load 25% and the ignition is slightly delayed with EGR at engine load 100% NOx emissions are markedly decreased with EGR especially at high loads while soot emissions are increased as the EGR rate rises.
In this study GC and PAS were used to calculate $N_2O$ concentration of exhaust gas from Wood Chip combustion system. Fuel supplied to the incinerator was collected and analyzed and then the analysis result was used to calculate $N_2O$ emissions. Tier 3 and Tier 4 Method were used to calculate the $N_2O$ emissions. Plant's Specific emission factor of $N_2O$ by Tier 3 Method was 0.35 kg/TJ, while default emission factor of Wood?Wood Waste proposed by 2006 IPCC G/L was 4 kg/TJ. So the $N_2O$ emission factor of this study was 3.65 kg/TJ lower compared to the IPCC G/L. The total emissions calculated by Plant's specific emission factor was 4.22 kg during the measuring period, but by Tier 4 Method it was 7.88 kg. This difference in emissions was caused by the difference of continuous measuring and intermittent sampling. It would be necessary to apply continuous measuring to calculate emissions of $Non-CO_2$ gas whose the density distribution is relatively high. However currently, according to the target management guideline of greenhouse gas and energy, the continuous measuring method to calculate greenhouse gas emission is applied only to $CO_2$. Therefore for reliable greenhouse gas emission calculation it would be necessary to apply continuous measuring to calculate $Non-CO_2$ gas emission.

The effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emissions and specific fuel consumption rate have been investigated using an eight-cylinder. four cycle. direct injection diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The theoretical NO formation concentration is calculated with the equivalence ratio as a parameter of flame temperature to study the effect of EGR on NOx emissions in the diesel combustion. The experiments in this study are conducted on the fixed fuel injection timing of $38^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of experimental conditions. It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate is slightly increased with EGR rate. and NOx emissions are markedly reduced owing to the drop of the incoming oxygen concentratio and the increase of equivalence ratio as the EGR rate increases.
For two engine design parameters; compression ratio and intake swirl ratio, measurement of concentrations of hydrocarbon species has been made as a function of various air-fuel ratio in order to investigate the ozone formation of HC emissions from LPG fuel. Higher compression ratio gave lower SR values due to larger aIkan species and higher BSR values because of larger NMHC generation. Swirl ratio did not affect HC emissions and ozone formation. For ${\lambda}=1.1{\sim}1.2$, higher SR values resulted from the species of aIken which has higher MIRs were highly produced. Leaner mixture showed lower SR values due to the increase of the aIkan which has a lower MIR.

An experimental investigation was conducted to investigate the effect of Bio-ethanol fuel on the engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics under various engine operating conditions. To investigate the effect of bio-ethanol fuel, the commercial 1.6L SI engine equipped with 4 cylinder was tested on EC dynamometer. The engine performance including brake torque, brake specific fuel consumption, and barke specific energy consumption of bio-ethanol fuel was compared to those obtained by pure gasoline. Furthermore, the exhaust emissions were analyzed in terms of regulated exhaust emissions such as unburned hydrocarbon, oxides of nitrogen, and carbon monoxide.Result of this work shows that the effect of blending of ethanol to gasoline caused drastic decrease of emissions under various operating conditions. Also, improved engine performance such as brake torque and brake power were indicated for bio-ethanol fuel.
This paper presents the influences of ethanol addition to gasoline on bench test a spark ignition engine performances and emissions characteristics. The use of ethanol gasoline blended fuels decrease the brake power and brake torque, and increases the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC). Ethanol gasoline blended fuels show lower brake torque and brake power and higher BSFC than gasoline. When ethanol containing oxygen is blended with gasoline, the combustion of the engine becomes better and therefore CO emission is reduced. HC emissions decrease to some extent as ethanol added to gasoline increase, as the percentage of ethanol in the blends increased, NOx emission was decreased under various engine speeds.
