Dry sliding wear behavior of plain low carbon dual phase steel by strain hardening and oxidation (가공경화와 산화층 형성에 의한 이상조직 저탄소강의 건식 미끄럼 마멸 거동)

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of low carbon dual phase steel, of which microstructure consists of hard martensite in a ductile ferrite matrix, has been investigated. The wear characteristics of the dual phase steel was compared with that of a plain carbon steel which was normalized at $950^{\circ}C$ for 30min and then air-cooled. Dry sliding wear tests were carried out using a pin-on-disk type tester at various loads of 1N to 10N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.2m/sec against an AISI 52100 bearing steel ball at room temperature. The sliding distance was fixed as 1000m for all wear tests. The wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss measured to the accuracy of $10^{-5}g$ by the specific gravity and sliding distance. The worn surfaces and wear debris were analyzed by SEM, EDS and a profilomter. Micro vickers hardness values of the cross section of worn surface were measured to analyze strain hardening behavior underneath the wearing surfaces. The were rate of the dual phase steel was lower than the plain carbon steel. Oxidation on the sliding surface and strain hardening were attributed for the higher wear resistance of the dual phase steel.

  • The high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTR-10) is designed to produce electricity and hydrogen. Graphite is used as reflector, support structures, and a moderator in reactor core; it has good resistance to neutron and is a suitable material at high temperatures. Friction is generated in the graphite structures for the core reflector, support structures, and moderator because of vibration from the HTR-10 fuel cycle flow. In this study, the wear characteristics of the isotropic graphite IG-110 used in HTR-10 were evaluated. The reciprocating wear test was carried out for graphite against graphite. The effects of changes in the contact load and sliding speeds at room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$ on the coefficient of friction and specific wear rate were evaluated. The wear behavior of graphite IG-110 was evaluated based on the wear surfaces.

  • The sliding wear characteristics of carbon steel castings were Investigated using a ball on disk type tester.   • The friction and wear behaviors of WC/C multilayer coating were investigated by using a pin on disk type tester. The experiment was conducted by using silicon nitride (S $i_{3}$ $N_{4}$) as a pin material and WC/C multilayer coating on bearing steel (STB2) as a disk material, under various environments that are atmospheric conditions of high vacuum( 1,3$\times$10$^{-4}$ Pa), medium vacuum( 1.3$\times$10$^{-l}$Pa). ambient air( 10$^{5}$ pa)(3 types) and relative humidity(2~98%) conditions. The results showed that WC/C coating fracture was suddenly increased with increasing degree of vacuum, because of high adhesion. So, WC/C coating could not be displayed their ability as solid lubricant. WC/C coating could be displayed better abilitv as solid lubricant with increasing relative humidity. because of oxide film, size and shape of wear debris. The friction coefficient and specific wear rate became better about RH 50%.%.

  • This paper studies on the wear corrosion behavior of induction hardening high strength cast iron in the acidic environments. In a variety of pH solutions, wear corrosion behavior of GC 300 with a variety of contact pressures was investigated, and corrosion wear behavior after immersion test was considered. Also, electrochemical polarization test for GC 300 was carried out in various pH solutions. The main results are as following: In the strong acidic environment, wear corrosion rate of GC 300 appears highly and in the neutral environment is stable. Also, graphitic corrosion in the strong acidic environment occurs. The corrosion current density of GC 300 becomes high in a order of pH 1 > pH 2 > pH 4 > pH 6.5.

Characterization of DLC Coated Surface of Fe-3.0%Ni-0.7%Cr-1.4%Mn-X Steel (DLC 코팅한 Fe-3.0%Ni-0.7%Cr-1.4%Mn-X강의 표면특성평가)

  • The various surface treated conditions of Fe-3.0%Ni-0.7%Cr-1.4%Mn-X steel such as as-received, ion nitriding, DLC coated, DLC coated after nitriding for 3 hrs and 6 hrs were investigated to evaluate the beneficial effect for plastic mold steel. Micro Vickers hardness tester was used to estimate nitriding depth from the hardness profile and to measure hardness on the surface. Elastic modulus and residual stress were measured by a nanoindentator. Scratch test and SP (small ball punch test) were utilized to assess the adhesive strength of DLC coating. The depth of nitriding layer was measured as $50{\mu}m$ for the condition of 3 hrs nitriding and $90{\mu}m$ for that of 6 hrs nitriding. Hardness, elastic modulus, residual stress of DLC coating were 20.37 GPa, 162.78 GPa and -1456 MPa respectively. Residual stress on the surface of DLC coating after nitriding could increase to -3914 MPa by introducing nitriding before DLC coating. During the 'Ball-On-Disc' test ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles pulled out from the surface of nitrized layer tend to enhance abrasive wear mode since the fraction of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ (Fe4N) in ion-nitrized layer is known to increases with nitriding time. Thus the specific wear rate of the nitriding layer increased. Comparing with nitriding the specific wear rate in work piece disc as well as ball decreased prominently in DLC coating due to the remarkable reduction in friction coefficient.

  • This paper is to investigate the wear behaviors of two type ceramics, $Al_{2}O_{3}\;and\;TiO_{2}$, by coated plasma thermal spray method under the lubricative environment. The lubricative environments are grease fluids, a general hydraulic fluids, and bearing fluids. The wear testing machine used a pin on disk type. Wear characteristics, which were friction force, friction coefficient and the specific wear rate, according to the lubricative environments were obtained at the four kinds of load and sliding velocity is 0.2 m/sec. After the wear experiments, the wear surfaces of the each test specimen were observed by a scanning electronic microscope.

  • The present study was undertaken to investigate the dry wear characteristics of die steel STD 11 for cold molding. The wear test was experimentally carried out under different conditions using a wear device, which was made in laboratory, and in which annular surfaces of wear testing specimens wear rubbed in dry sliding condition with varying the sliding speed, contact pressure, and sliding distance. The wear loss by variation of sliding speed was much in 0.3 m/sec and less in higher speed range above its sliding speed according to formation of the boundary lubrication film. The critical sliding speed with maximum value of the specific wear rate switched over to lower speed side according. as contact pressure increased. The critical sliding distance was increased with decrease in oxidation reaction velocity. The depth below subsurface showing maximum hardness (Hv) came out at the position, $60 \mu m$, of the maximum shear stress due to strain hardening.

  • This study is focused on the prediction of appropriate tool life by clarifying the correlation between progressive tool wear and AE signal. when rcutting SM45C by End mill in machining center. First of all, end mill have a problem that position of sensor sticking because it is revolution tool, but I think that it can be bained specific character according to sticking Sensor in the Vise. Consequently, the following results have been obtained; 1. Each cutting speed of feed rate over 0.1mm had a tendency to increase linearly according to the RMSAE 2. The level of AE signal at the same cutting area was more sensitive to depth of cut tharn the variation of feed rate 3. In the range of cutting duringqr about 75minqr atqr cutting speed 27m/min flankqr wear turns up aboutqr 0.21mm, aboutqr 0.29mm in the caseqr of about 65minqr at 33/min, qr hereby RMSAE increased rapidly at 0.2mm flank wear, also AE-HIT and CUM-CNTS.

  • The fretting wear behaviour of Zircaloy-4 tube used as the fuel rod cladding in PWR nuclear power plants has been investigated at the different test environment, in light water and in air as a function of slip amplitude, normal load, test duration and frequency. Zircaloy-4 tubes were used for both of oscillating and stationary specimens. A fretting wear tester was designed to be suitable for this fretting test. The wear volume and specific wear rate of Zircaloy-4 tube in water were greater than those in air under various slip amplitude. It was found that delaminate debris and surface cracks were observed at low slip amplitude and high load in water Experimental results showed that the light water accelerated the wear of Zircaloy-4 tube at low slip amplitude in fretting.
