저분자량 유기산 세척을 이용한 오염토양으로부터의 Cu제거에 관한 연구 (Remediation of Copper-Contaminated Soil using Low Molecular Weight Organic Acid Flushing Technique)

  • 저분자량 유기산을 이용한 in-situ flushing 토양세척기법의 실제 현장 적용성 검토를 위해 실험실에서 회분식 실험을 통하여 적당한 세척제를 선정하고 이에 따른 여러 가지 운전변수를 찾아보았다. 대상 중금속으로는 Cu를 택했고, 세척제로는 실제 토양환경에 영향이 비교적 적은 저분자량 유기산인 acetic, citric, oxalic, succinic acid를 이용했다. 유기산을 이용하여 처리한 결과 실험에 사용된 유기산들 모두 1 mM의 저농도에서는 효과를 나타내지 못했고 50 mM 이상의 고농도에서 보다 좋은 제거율을 보였는데, 50 mM과 100mM의 경우 제거율이 큰 차이를 보이지 못했다. citric arid와 oxalic acid의 경우 중성 및 약산성 상태에서 최대의 제거율이 나타났고 특히 citric arid의 경우 87.1%의 높은 제거율을 보였다. 유기산이 없을때는 강산성 상태에서 Cu의 최고제거율이 70% 정도였다. 그러나 각 경우에서의 speciation을 살펴보면 유기산이 없을 경우에는 추출된 Cu의 대부분이 유해한 free ion상태로 존재하게 되고 유기산이 있을 경우에는 추출된 Cu의 대부분이 유기산과 complex를 이룬다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Insights into evolution and speciation in the red alga Bostrychia: 15 years of research

  • Studies of the red algal genus Bostrychia over the last 15 years have made it a model system for many evolutionary processes within red algal species. The combination of newly developed, or first employed methods, in red algal species studies has made Bostrychia a pioneer genus in intraspecific studies. Bostrychia was the first genus in which a mitochondrial marker was used for intraspecific red algal phylogeny, and the first for which a 3-genome phylogeny was undertaken. The genus was the first red alga used to genetically show maternal plastid and mitochondria inheritance, and also to show correlation between cryptic species (genetically divergent intraspecific lineages) and reproductive incompatibility. The chemotaxonomic use, and physiological function of osmolytes, has also been extensively studied in Bostrychia. Our continuous studies of Bostrychia also highlight important aspects in algal species studies. Our worldwide sampling, and resampling in certain areas, show that intensive sampling is needed to accurately assess the genetic diversity and therefore phylogeographic history of algal species, with increased sampling altering evolutionary hypotheses. Our studies have also shown that long-term morphological character stability (stasis) and character convergence can only be correctly assessed with wide geographic sampling of morphological species. While reproductive incompatibility of divergent lineages supports the biological species nature of these lineages, reproductive incompatibility is also seen between isolates with little genetic divergence. It seems that reproductive incompatibility may evolve quickly in red algae and the unique early stages of fertilization (e.g., gametes covered by walls, active movement of spermatium nuclei to the distant egg nucleus), also well investigated in Bostrychia,. may be key to our understanding of this process.

호기성환경에서 비소의 지구화학적 거동에 미치는 미생물의 영향 및 오염 복구에의 적용 가능성 (Microbial Effects on Geochemical Behavior of Arsenic under Aresnic under Aerobic Condition and Their Applicability to Environmental Remediation)

  • 높은 함량의 비소로 오염된 지역으로부터 분리해 낸 토착미생물들이 비소 지구화학에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. Arsenite는 arsenate에 비하여 더욱 높은 미생물 성장 저해효과를 나타내었다. Arsenate를 함유한 배양액에 분리된 미생물들을 24시간 동안 배양한 결과, arsenate의 함량이 높을수록 미생물들의 성장은 감소하였으며 150mM 이상의 arsenate 조건에서는 성장이 확연히 중단되었다. 그러나, 동일 배양액에서 4일간에 걸쳐 추가 배양한 결과 미생물들의 성장이 다시 관찰되었으며 이는 미생물들이 비소를 해독하고 성장을 유지할 수 있도록 그들의 생화학적 기능을 조절하였음을 의미한다. 분리된 것 중 두 종의 미생물을 arsenate를 함유한 배양액에서 20시간 가량 배양한 결과, arsenate를 arsenite로 환원시켰음이 관찰되었고 이는 해독기제에 의한 것으로 추측된다. 또한 동일조건의 배양액에서 4일간 추가 배양한 결과 총 용존 비소함량의 감소가 관찰되었다. 미생물은 자연조건에서 비소의 화학종 결정에 영향을 미치며 이러한 특성은 비소로 오염된 지역의 복구에 유용하게 사용되어 질 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

U(VI)의 화강암 수착에 대한 매개변수적 연구 (A Parametric Study on the Sorption of U(VI) onto Granite)

  • 국산화강암에 대한U(VI) 수착에 대한 실험적 연구를 지화학적 매개변수들인 접촉시간, pH, 이온강도, 탄산염 농도 등의 함수로 회분식으로 수행하였다. 국산 화강암에 대한 U(VI)의 수착의 분배계수 $K_{d}$ 는 실험 조건에 따라 약 1-200 mL/g의 값의 범위를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 화강암 입자에 대한 U(VI)의 수착은 접촉시간, pH 및 탄산염 농도 등에는 크게 의존하였으나 이온강도에는 크게 의존하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 화강암 입자들에 대한U(VI)의 수착은 용액에서 pH와 탄산염의 농도에 의존하는 우라늄 화학종과 밀집한 관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 속도론적 수착 실험에 의하여 2 단계 일차식 속도론적 거동이 화강암 입자들에 대한 우라늄의 속도론적 수착을 지배할 수 있는 것으로 유추되었다. pH 7 이상의 알칼리 영역에서 화강암에 대한 우라늄의 수착이 크게 감소되었는데 이는 화학종 계산에 의해 예측된 바에 따라 음이온의 U(VI)-탄산염 복합체 형성에 기인하였을 것이다.

2007년 6월 수도권 오존모사 I - 광화학측정자료를 이용한 SAPRC99 화학종별 휘발성유기물질 배출량 입력자료 평가 (Ozone Simulations over the Seoul Metropolitan Area for a 2007 June Episode, Part I: Evaluating Volatile Organic Compounds Emissions Speciated for the SAPRC99 Chemical Mechanism)

  • Volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions in the 2007 CAPSS (Clean Air Protection Supporting System) emissions inventory are chemically speciated for the SAPRC99 (Statewide Air Pollution Research Center 99) mechanism, following the Source Classification Code (SCC) matching method to borrow the U.S.EPA's chemical speciation profiles. CMAQ simulations with High-order Direct Decoupled Method (HDDM) are in turn applied to evaluate uncertainty in the method by comparing the simulated model VOC species to the observations in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) for a 2007 June episode. Simulations under-predicted ALK1 to ALK4 in SAPRC99 by a factor of 2 to 5 and over-predicted ALK5 by a factor of 7.5 while ARO1, ARO2, OLE1, and ethylene (ETH) are comparable to the observations, showing relative difference by 10 to 30%. OLE2 emissions are roughly 4 times overestimated. Emission rates for individual VOC model species are revised referring to the ratio of simulated to observed concentrations. Impact of the VOC emission changes on the overall ozone prediction was insignificant for the days of which 1-hr maximum ozone are lower than 100 ppb. However, simulations showed ozone difference by 5 to 10 ppb when high ozone above 120 ppb was observed in the vicinity of Seoul. This result suggests that evaluations on individual model VOC emissions be necessary to lead ozone control plans to the right direction. Moreover, the simulated ratios of ARO1 and ARO2 to $NO_x$ are roughly 50% lower than the observed ones, which imply that adjustment in $NO_x$ and VOC emission rates may be required to mimic the real VOC/$NO_x$ condition over the area.

실험용 연소로에서 석탄 연소 시 발생하는 수은 배출특성 연구 (A Study on Emission Characteristics of Mercury from Coal Combustion at a Lab-scale Furnace)

  • This study investigated mercury emission at various combustion conditions and analyzed mercury species in flue gas from coal combustion at a laboratory scale furnace in coal. The results of this study can be used to predict and to assess mercury emission at coal boilers and power plants. The coal used in the plants generally contains about $0.02{\sim}0.28\;mg$ of mercury per kg. Bituminous and anthracite coal used for the experiment contained 0.049 and 0.297 mg/kg of mercury, respectively. Mercury emissions during coal combustion at temperatures range of $600^{\circ}C$ to $1,400^{\circ}C$ was measured and analysed using Ontario Hydro method; the speciation changes were also observed in mercury emissions. The results showed higher fraction of elemental mercury than that of oxidised mercury at most temperatures tested in this experiment. The fraction of elemental mercury was lower in combustion of anthracite coal than in bituminous combustion. As expected, equilibrium calculations and real power plants data showed good similarity. The distribution of particle size in flue gas had the higher peak in size above $2.5\;{\mu}m$. However the peak of mercury enrichment in dust was at $0.3\;{\mu}m$, which could be easily emitted into atmosphere without filtration in combustion system. When the CEA(Chemical equilibrium and Application) code was used for combustion equilibrium calculation, Cl was found to be the important component effecting mercury oxidation, especially at the lower temperatures under $900^{\circ}C$.

D 정수처리장에서 소독부산물 발생 및 종분포 특성 (The Characteristics of Disinfection by-products Occurrence and Speciation in D Water Treatment Processes)

  • Concentrations and speciations of Trihalomethanes (THMs) and Haloacetic acids ($HAA_5$) that can be formed during chlorine disinfection by-product (DBPs) in full-scale drinking water treatment plants were investigated. Jeon-ju D water treatment plant that adopted conventional water treatment processes was chosen for investigation. SUVA values according to water treatment process changes were observed from 1.3 to 2.1. The process average concentrations of THMs was 7.4 ppb, 9.0 ppb and 14.7 ppb respectively, while the average concentrations of $HAA_5$ by each process which are precipitation water, filterater water, treated water, were 15.5 ppb, 14.9 ppb and 25.8 ppb respectively. DBPs concentrations was lower in the winter than summer. The major species of THMs was chloroform and the second highest was bromodichloromethane (BDCM) and the third highest was dibromochloromethane (DBCM). In case of $HAA_5$, the rate of trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) was detected. The species disribution of THMs is related to the change of SUVA and species disribution of $HAA_5$ is related to the concentrations of bromine and injection position of chlorine and injection quantity.

Quantitative Speciation of Selenium in Human Blood Serum and Urine with AE- RP- and AF-HPLC-ICP/MS

  • Various separation modes in HPLC, such as anion exchange (AE), reversed-phase (RP), and affinity (AF) chromatography were examined for the separation of selenium species in human blood serum and urine. While RP- and AE-HPLC were mainly used for the separation of small molecular selenium species, double column AF-HPLC achieved the separation of selenoproteins in blood serum efficiently. Further, the effluent of AF-HPLC was enzymatically hydrolyzed and then analyzed with RP HPLC for selenoamino acid study. The versatility of the hybrid technique makes the in-depth study of selenium species possible. For quantification, post column isotope dilution (ID) with $^{78}Se$ spike was performed. ORC ICP/MS (octapole reaction cell inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry) was used with 4 mL $min^{-1}$ Hydrogen as reaction gas. In urine sample, inorganic selenium and SeCys were identified. In blood serum, selenoproteins GPx, SelP and SeAlb were detected and quantified. The concentration for GPx, SelP and SeAlb was $22.8{\pm}3.4\;ng\;g^{-1}$, $45.2{\pm}1.7\;ng\;g^{-1}$, and $16.1{\pm}2.2\;ng\;g^{-1}$, respectively when $^{80}Se/^{78}Se$ was used. The sum of these selenoproteins ($84.1{\pm}4.4\;ng\;g^{-1}$) agrees well with the total selenium concentration measured with the ID method of $87.0{\pm}3.0\;ng\;g^{-1}$. Enzymatic hydrolysis of each selenium proteins revealed that SeCys is the major amino acid for all three proteins and SeMet is contained in SeAlb only.

디젤 연소 전략에 따른 배기가스 및 탄화수소 종 분석 (Diesel Combustion Strategies Effect on Exhaust Emissions and Hydrocarbon Species)

  • 1.7L 커먼레일 직접분사 디젤 엔진을 이용하여 1500rpm 3.9bar BMEP 조건에서 세가지 연소 전략에 따른 배기가스 배출 특성 및 탄화수소 종 분석을 수행하였다. 첫째 전략은 EGR 을 사용하지 않고 연료 분할 분사를 이용하는 방법(split injection), 둘째는 적절한 EGR 적용 및 단일 연료분사 방법(single-1)이며 셋째는 다량의 EGR 및 레일 압력 증대 등을 통한 저온디젤연소(single-2)이다. 본 실험 조건으로부터 split injection 방법과 single-1 방법은 PM-NOx 상반 관계를 보였고, single-2 방법은 PM-NOx 상관관계에서 벗어나 PM 및 NOx 동시 저감이 가능하였다. 탄화수소 종 분석 결과, THC 배출 경향과 동일하게 탄소번호에 관계없이 split injection 이 가장 적은 배출을 보였고, single-1 그리고 single-2 의 순서로 많이 배출하였다. 메탄, 아세틸렌 및 CO 의 THC 에 대한 비율은 공연비가 농후해 짐에 따라서 증가하였고 이는 공연비가 농후에 따른 연소 영역에서 산소 농도 감소로 열해리가 증가하였기 때문이다.

Arsenic environmental contamination, chemical speciation and its behaviour in the water system from some abandoned Au-Ag mines, Korea

  • Mine waters, surface waters and groundwaters were sampled around seven Au-Ag mine areas (Dongil, Okdong, Dongjung, Songcheon, Ssangjeon, Dogok and Gubong Au-Ag mines). The main contamination sources of As in these abandoned Au-Ag mines can be suggested as mine tailings and waste rocks including the sulfide gangue minerals (arsenopyrite). The relatively high concentration of As in mine waters was shown in the Dongil (524 ${\mu}g/L$) and the Dogok (56 ${\mu}g/L$) mine areas. Arsenic concentrations in stream waters from the Dongil ($0.9\~118{\mu}g/L$), the Songchon ($0.8\~63{\mu}g/L$), the Ssangjeon ($1.6\~109{\mu}g/L$) and the Gubong ($3.6\~63{\mu}g/L$) mine areas exceeded the permissible level for stream water in Korea. Groundwaters collected from the Dongil ($0.9\~64{\mu}g/L$ ), the Okdong ($0.2\~69{\mu}g/L$) and the Gubong ($0.5\~101{\mu}g/L$) mine areas contained high As concentration to cause the arsenicosis in these areas. In As speciation, the concentration ratios of As(III) to As(total) present up to $75\%$ and $100\%$ in stream waters from the Okdong and the Songcheon mines, and $70\%$ in groundwaters from the Okdong and the Dongjung mines. Arsenic concentration decreases downstream from the tailing dump correlatively with pH and Fe concentration. Highly elevated As concentrations are found in the dry season (such as April and March) than in the wet season (September) due to the dilution effect by heavy rain during summer in stream waters from the Dongil and the Songcheon mine areas.
