This paper proposes a speaker-dependent speech recognition algorithm which can classify the gender for male and female speakers in white noise and car noise, using a neural network. The proposed speech recognition algorithm is trained by the neural network to recognize the gender for male and female speakers, using LPC (Linear Predictive Coding) cepstrum coefficients. In the experiment results, the maximal improvement of total speech recognition rate is 96% for white noise and 88% for car noise, respectively, after trained a total of six neural networks. Finally, the proposed speech recognition algorithm is compared with the results of a conventional speech recognition algorithm in the background noisy environment.
In this paper, we construct phonetic GMM for text-independent speaker identification system. The basic idea is to combine of the advantages of baseline GMM and HMM. GMM is more proper for text-independent speaker identification system. In text-dependent system, HMM do work better. Phonetic GMM represents more sophistgate text-dependent speaker model based on text-independent speaker model. In speaker identification system, phonetic GMM using HMM-based speaker-independent phoneme recognition results in better performance than baseline GMM. In addition to the method, N-best recognition algorithm used to decrease the computation complexity and to be applicable to new speakers.

The speech recognition systems using VQ have usually the problem decreasing recognition rate, MSVQ assigning the dissimilar vectors to a segment. In this paper, applying One-stage DMS/DP algorithm to the recognition experiments, we can solve these problems to what degree. Recognition experiment is peformed for Korean DDD area names with DMS model of 20 sections and word unit template. We carried out the experiment in speaker dependent and speaker independent, and get a recognition rates of 97.7% and 81.7% respectively.

The ability to recognize human emotion is one of the hallmarks of human-robot interaction. Especially, speaker-independent emotion recognition is a challenging issue for commercial use of speech emotion recognition systems. In general, speaker-independent systems show a lower accuracy rate compared with speaker-dependent systems, as emotional feature values depend on the speaker and his/her gender. Hence, this paper describes the realization of speaker-independent emotion recognition by rejection using confidence measure to make the emotion recognition system be homogeneous and accurate. From comparison of the proposed methods with conventional method, the improvement and effectiveness of proposed methods were clearly confirmed.

In this research, we selected the speech recognition to implement the electric wheelchair system as a method to control it by only using the speech and used DTW (Dynamic Time Warping), which is speaker-dependent and has a relatively high recognition rate among the speech recognitions. However, it has to have small memory and fast process speed performance under consideration of real-time. Thus, we introduced VQ (Vector Quantization) which is widely used as a compression algorithm of speaker-independent recognition, to secure fast recognition and small memory. However, we found that the recognition rate decreased after using VQ. To improve the recognition rate, we applied ART2 (Adaptive Reason Theory 2) algorithm as a post-process algorithm to obtain about 5% recognition rate improvement. To utilize ART2, we have to apply an error range. In case that the subtraction of the first distance from the second distance for each distance obtained to apply DTW is 20 or more, the error range is applied. Likewise, ART2 was applied and we could obtain fast process and high recognition rate. Moreover, since this system is a moving object, the system should be implemented as an embedded one. Thus, we selected TMS320C32 chip, which can process significantly many calculations relatively fast, to implement the embedded system. Considering that the memory is speech, we used 128kbyte-RAM and 64kbyte ROM to save large amount of data. In case of speech input, we used 16-bit stereo audio codec, securing relatively accurate data through high resolution capacity.

In the field of development of human interface technology, the interactions between human and machine are important. The research on emotion recognition helps these interactions. This paper presents an algorithm for emotion recognition based on personalized speech signals. The proposed approach is trying to extract the characteristic of speech signal for emotion recognition using PLP (perceptual linear prediction) analysis. The PLP analysis technique was originally designed to suppress speaker dependent components in features used for automatic speech recognition, but later experiments demonstrated the efficiency of their use for speaker recognition tasks. So this paper proposed an algorithm that can easily evaluate the personal emotion from speech signals in real time using personalized emotion patterns that are made by PLP analysis. The experimental results show that the maximum recognition rate for the speaker dependant system is above 90%, whereas the average recognition rate is 75%. The proposed system has a simple structure and but efficient to be used in real time.
This research proposes a system for speaker independent Korean continuous speech recognition with 247 DDD area names using keyword spotting technique. The applied recognition algorithm is the Dynamic Programming Neural Network(DPNN) based on the integration of DP and multi-layer perceptron as model that solves time axis distortion and spectral pattern variation in the speech. To improve performance, we classify word model into keyword model and non-keyword model. We make an experiment on postprocessing procedure for the evaluation of system performance. Experiment results are as follows. The recognition rate of the isolated word is 93.45% in speaker dependent case. The recognition rate of the isolated word is 84.05% in speaker independent case. The recognition rate of simple dialogic sentence in keyword spotting experiment is 77.34% as speaker dependent, and 70.63% as speaker independent.

A new approach to improve the speaker adaptation algorithm by means of the variable number of observation density functions for CDHMM speech recognizer has been proposed. The proposed method uses the observation density function with more than one mixture in each state to represent speech characteristics in detail. The number of mixtures in each state is determined by the number of frames and the determinant of the variance, respectively. The each MAP Parameter is extracted in every mixture determined by these two methods. In addition, the state segmentation method requiring speaker adaptation can segment the adapting speech more Precisely by using speaker-independent model trained from sufficient database as a priori knowledge. And the state duration distribution is used lot adapting the speech duration information owing to speaker's utterance habit and speed. The recognition rate of the proposed methods are significantly higher than that of the conventional method using one mixture in each state.
In the acoustic modeling for large vocabulary speech recognition, a sparse data problem caused by a huge number of context-dependent (CD) models usually leads the estimated models to being unreliable. In this paper, we develop a new clustering method based on the C45 decision-tree learning algorithm that effectively encapsulates the CD modeling. The proposed scheme essentially constructs a supervised decision rule and applies over the pre-clustered triphones using the C45 algorithm, which is known to effectively search through the attributes of the training instances and extract the attribute that best separates the given examples. In particular, the data driven method is used as a clustering algorithm while its result is used as the learning target of the C45 algorithm. This scheme has been shown to be effective particularly over the database of low unknown-context ratio in terms of recognition performance. For speaker-independent, task-independent continuous speech recognition task, the proposed method reduced the percent accuracy WER by 3.93% compared to the existing rule-based methods.
This paper presents a binary clustering network (BCN) and a heuristic algorithm to detect pitch for recognition of keywords in continuous speech. In order to classify nonlinear patterns, BCN separates patterns into binary clusters hierarchically and links same patterns at root level by using the supervised learning and the unsupervised learning. BCN has many desirable properties such as flexibility of dynamic structure, high classification accuracy, short learning time, and short recall time. Pitch Detection algorithm is a heuristic model that can solve the difficulties such as scaling invariance, time warping, time-shift invariance, and redundance. This recognition algorithm has shown recognition rates as high as 95% for speaker-dependent as well as multispeaker-dependent tests.
