  • Piezoelectric thick films of soft $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ (PZT) based commercial material (S55) were fabricated using a conventional tape casting method. Ag-Pd electrodes were printed on the piezoelectric film at room temperature and all 5 layered films with a dimension of $12mm{\times}16mm$ were successfully laminated for a multi-layered piezoelectric ceramic actuator. The laminated specimens were co-fired at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. A flat layered and dense microstructure was obtained for the $112{\mu}m$ thick piezoelectric actuator after sintering process. Thereafter, a prototype piezoelectric speaker was fabricated using the multi-layered piezoelectric ceramic actuator which can operate as a bimorph. Its SPL (sound pressure level) characteristic was also evaluated for speaker application. Frequency response revealed that the output SPL with a root mean square voltage of 10 V increased gradually to the highest peak of 87.5 dB for 1.5 kHz and exhibited a relatively stable behavior over the measured frequency range (${\leq}20kHz$) at a distance of 10 cm, implying that the fabricated piezoelectric speaker is potential for speaker applications.

  • When the vibration of the thin panel by exciting single point is used to radiate sound, the inherent vibration characteristic of the plate itself causes influence on the radiated sound. A conventional panel speaker system usually uses the single or double point excitations for generating the sound through the panel itself. The radiated sound can be easily distorted due to the modal characteristics of the plate so it is difficult to expect sufficient sound power or high radiation efficiency. In this paper, to achieve an immersive sound field, the multiple speaker zones on a thin panel are created with the limited number of actuators. The designated vibration field which can generates directional sound is realized by employing the vibro-acoustic inverse rendering methods. Actuators are arranged from the positions which have the advantage of implementing with multi-modal excitations. The location and number of actuators are compared with the location and number of controllable speaker zones by conducting numerical simulations.

  • In this paper, we study the enhancement of VQ (Vector Quantization) design for text independent speaker recognition. In a concrete way, we present a non-iterative method which makes a vector quantization codebook and this method performs non-iterative learning so that the computational complexity is epochally reduced The proposed Classified Space VQ (CSVQ) design method for text Independent speaker recognition is generalized from Semi-noniterative VQ design method for text dependent speaker recognition. CSVQ contrasts with the existing desiEn method which uses the iterative learninE algorithm for every traininE speaker. The characteristics of a CSVQ design is as follows. First, the proposed method performs the non-iterative learning by using a Classified Space Codebook. Second, a quantization region of each speaker is equivalent for the quantization region of a Classified Space Codebook. And the quantization point of each speaker is the optimal point for the statistical distribution of each speaker in a quantization region of a Classified Space Codebook. Third, Classified Space Codebook (CSC) is constructed through Sample Vector Formation Method (CSVQ1, 2) and Hyper-Lattice Formation Method (CSVQ 3). In the numerical experiment, we use the 12th met-cepstrum feature vectors of 10 speakers and compare it with the existing method, changing the codebook size from 16 to 128 for each Classified Space Codebook. The recognition rate of the proposed method is 100% for CSVQ1, 2. It is equal to the recognition rate of the existing method. Therefore the proposed CSVQ design method is, reducing computational complexity and maintaining the recognition rate, new alternative proposal and CSVQ with CSC can be applied to a general purpose recognition.

  • We reported on characteristics of the piezoelectric ceramic-polymer composite for the application of the thick-film speaker. The PVDF-PZT composites were fabricated to incorporate the advantages of both ceramic and polymer with various mixing ratios by 3-roll mill mixer. The composite solutions were coated by the conventional screen-printing method on ITO electrode coated PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) polymer film. After depositing the top-electrode of silver-paste, 4 kV/mm of DC field was applied at $120^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to poling the composite films. The value of $d_{33}$ (piezoelectric charge constant) was increased when the PZT weight percent was increased. The maximum value of the $d_{33}$ was 24 pC/N at 70 wt% PZT. But the $g{33}$ (piezoelectric voltage constant) showed the maximum value of $32mV{\cdot}m/N$ at 65 wt% of PZT powder. The SPL (sound pressure level) of the speaker fabricated with the 65:35 composite film was about 68 dB at 1 kHz.

  • This paper proposes a speaker recognition algorithm using a perceptron neural network and LPC (Linear Predictive Coding) cepstrum coefficients. The proposed algorithm first detects the voiced sections at each frame. Then, the LPC cepstrum coefficients which have speaker characteristics are obtained by the linear predictive analysis for the detected voiced sections. To classify the obtained LPC cepstrum coefficients, a neural network is trained using the LPC cepstrum coefficients. In this experiment, the performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated using the speech recognition rates based on the LPC cepstrum coefficients and the neural network.

  • In this paper. experiments are conducted to extract a set of non-Parametric warping functions to examine the characteristics of the warping among speakers' utterances. For this Purpose. we made use of MFCC and LP spectra of vowels in choosing reference spectrum of each vowel as well as representative spectra of each speaker. These spectra are compared by DTW to give the warping functions of each speaker. The set of warping functions are then defined by clustering the warping functions of all the speakers. Noting that male and female warping functions have shapes similar to Piecewise linear function and Power function respectively, a new hybrid set of warping functions is defined. The effectiveness of the extracted warping functions are evaluated by conducting phone level recognition experiments, and improvements in accuracy rate are observed in both warping functions.

  • This paper proposes a speaker and environment clustering method in order to overcome the degradation of the speech recognition performance caused by various noise and speaker characteristics. In this paper, instead of using the distance between Gaussian mixture model (GMM) weight vectors as in the Google's approach, the distance between the adapted mean vectors based on the modified maximum a posteriori (MAP) adaptation is used as a distance measure for vector quantization (VQ) clustering. According to our experiments on the simulation data generated by adding noise to clean speech, the proposed clustering method yields error rate reduction of 10.6% compared with baseline speaker-independent (SI) model, which is slightly better performance than the Google's approach.
