현대시를 통한 낙동강 수계 지역의 지리적 이미지 연구 (A study on Geographical Images of Nakdong River Region Represented in the Modern Poetry)

  • 이 연구는 낙동강 수계 지역을 배경으로 한 현대시에 재현된 지리적 이미지를 시대적 상황, 지리적 하위영역, 공간적 배경을 중심으로 고찰한 것이다. 이들 시들은 일제강점기의 강제적 인구이동, 해방 후의 경제적 빈곤, 한국전쟁으로 인해 피폐화된 국토, 경제개발, 환경문제와 생태시, 장소감 등 시대적 이미지를 잘 형상화하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 이들 시는 장소감을 통해 인문지리적 이미지를 비롯하여, 지형과 기후라는 자연지리적 이미지, 그리고 경제개발과 환경오염 이미지를 잘 드러내고 있다. 공간적 배경을 통해 볼 때 낙동강 상류 지역을 대상으로 하는 시는 황지를 비롯하여 안동 지역의 아름다운 지형이나 개인의 장소감을 노래한 시가 많은 부분을 차지한다. 이에 비해 중 하류 지역과 관련하여서는 현실을 반영한 사회비판적인 시가 많다. 이것은 낙동강 상류 지역에 비해 중류나 하류 지역에 대도시와 산업지역이 다수 분포해 있고, 강이라는 지형이 하류 쪽으로 갈수록 오염도가 심화되기 때문일 것이다. 이처럼 낙동강을 배경으로 한 시는 시대적 상황, 지리공간적 이미지를 잘 보여주고 있다.

Variations of SST around Korea inferred from NOAA AVHRR data

  • The NOAA AVHRR remote sense SST data, collected by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), are analyzed in order to understand the spatial and temporal distributions of SST in the seas adjacent to Korea. Our study is based on 10-day SST images during last 7 years (1991-1997). For a time series analysis of multiple 557 images, all of images must be aligned exactly at the same position by adjusting the scales and positions of each SST image. We devised an algorithm which yields automatic detections of cloud pixels from multiple SST images. The cloud detection algorithm is based on a physical constraint that SST anomalies in the ocean do not exceed certain limits (we used $\pm$ 3$^{\circ}C$ as a criterion of SST anomalies). The remote sense SST data are tuned by comparing remote sense data with observed SST at coastal stations. Seasonal variations of SST are studied by harmonic fit of SST normals at each pixel. The SST anomalies are studied by statistical method. We found that the SST anomalies are rather persistent with time scales between 1 and 2 months. Utilizing the persistency of SST anomalies, we devised an algorithm for a prediction of future SST Model fit of SST anomalies to the Markov process model yields that autoregression coefficients of SST anomalies during a time elapse of 10 days are between 0.5 and 0.7. We plan to improve our algorithms of automatic cloud pixel detection and prediction of future SST. Our algorithm is expected to be incorporated to the operational real time service of SST around Korea.

남양주 궁집(宮집) 외부공간 기본계획에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Landscape Design for the Namyangju Gugjip House Complex)

  • 본 연구는 경기도 남양주에 위치한 중요민속문화재 제130호 '궁집'과 그 일대에 대한 복합문화시설화 계획을 진행한 결과물이다. 특히, 차후 공공에 개방될 궁집과 한옥 부속사들로 구성된 역사·문화단지의 외부공간을 계획하고 설계하는 새로운 접근을 소개하고 그 시사점을 제공하는 데 목적을 둔다. 기존 궁집은 건축적으로 원형이 잘 보존된 상태지만, 궁집과 건물군으로 구성된 단지로서 대상지는 체계적인 공간 체험에 대한 계획의 부재, 구체적인 공간프로그램의 미비, 관리되지 않은 녹지로 인한 공간의 음지화 등의 문제로 공공공간으로 활용하는 데 문제점이 발견되었다. 따라서, 본 연구에서 제시하는 계획안은 크게 공공공간으로서 역사경관에 대한 의미 존중과 현대적 활용에 대한 균형을 추구하였다. 기초조사와 연구를 통해 도출된 계획의 전략은 크게 궁집의 장소성 강화, 대상지의 생태적 특성 존중 및 주변 환경과의 시각적 조화, 동시대에 적합한 공간프로그램의 제시이다. 이 전략을 바탕으로, 전체 공간에 대한 틀을 개념적으로 외원(外園), 간정(間庭), 주정(主庭), 후원(後園) 나누고 체계적인 경관 활용과 체험을 제안하였다. 본 계획안은 건축 문화재는 원형 그대로 보존하되, 궁집의 장소성에 기반한 전체 공간의 합리적 토지이용과 의미 있는 경관체험을 엮어내려는 조경적 접근 방식이 가장 큰 특징이다.

뉴미디어 패러다임에 나타난 공간 특성과 뉴미디어 아트의 관계 연구 (A Study on the Relationship of the Spatial Characteristics in New Media Paradigm and New Media Art)

  • 0 and 1, two digits are principle and formality of digital media. Those principle and formality dwell in new media paradigm. They are founded on emergence of new types of space. As describing the relationship originating from the concepts of digital media paradigm and space and discussing their characteristics, this paper presents the grounds for a theoretical argument for formation of new space. The concept of virtuality which mimics and represents the real, non-linearity which resembles human system of thinking and sensing, and interactivity connecting the communication theory of human and machine, their properties form the important basis for emergence of a new aspect of space. The concepts of digital media paradigm divide a type of space into two properties. The first is a inner modality. The second is outer modality. Dynamic space implicates inner modality that humans internally recognize the sense of space through their body and sensing organs. Space is not sensed but sensing. Space has an organic nature through object's interaction. Space has an outer nature that is physically variable. Finally, space has properties of modularity that changes structure of space. For empirical basis of an argument, new media art that has architectural form and those spatial characteristics were compared and analyzed. This conceptual discussion for space which the formality of digital media is applied will be an important foundation for create space design.

시각 장애인을 위한 정원-투시, 위요, 음양, 형태 및 환경 (The garden for the blind-perspective, enclosure, light/shade, form and environment)

  • The idea I set my thesis upon was to develop a methodology for the visually impaired to perceive an environment through their other senses. Since the Blind perceive spatial relationships by combined association of their other senses, it was essential to create a setting where their senses can be amplified. Thus this garden was designed to accommodate two or more of blind person's senses at once to provide more of '3-D' spatial relationship. The main goals of this thesis are, first, to create a place where the Blind can enjoy and nurture their own specific interests. Second, to reveal the nature in its allowing individual analysis and interpretation of a garden. Third, to move away from the prejudice of gardens for the Blind being made of only touching and smelling. To achieve these goals, the most important task was to establish a sense of space. In order to do so, five principles were used; Perspective, Enclosure, Light/Shade, Form, and Environment. After all, the garden for the Blind does not proclaim its purpose in loud terms nor in obvious manner. It should attempt to provide joy, serenity, and activity; a freedom to choose, recognize and analyze nuances of garden, the rhythm of enclosure and openness to experience variety, also to delight in subtle changes and to just imagine.

개념수채화를 반영한 스티븐 홀 작품의 공간색채 연구 (A Study on the Spatial Color of Steven Holl's Works Reflection on the Idea Watercolor)

  • Contemporary architecture is philosophy and art, and science are different that holds the architecture of human thought and behavior based on a variety of physical space. In addition, the technology is used by the new media graphics, lasers, LED, which were possible only in imagination, using tools such as the time-space of the potential for explosion. In particular, it was found in the spacial color of atypical using the nature of light. Such these architecture is space people actively experiencing a sense towards the expansion of its place. Therefore, the study purpose is to explore the Steven Holl's spacial colors to utilize the space is important to the possibility of light. He prefers the connection to the invisible world is inferred from the visible world and other space. He thoughts an idea linked to the concept watercolors which is a tool that holds to the notion of the flexibility of light and shadow. Concept watercolor is the idea space, establish space, recombinant space, and the growthy space. These have shown the no fixed spacial color cause of the combination of the different tones according to the characteristics of the mixed-color development of a concept watercolors demonstrated the spacial color of the replacement. That is to establish a parody of the works light blending spacial color.

머스 커닝햄과 프레드릭 플라망의 코레오그라피에 나타난 공간적 특성 및 표현에 관한 연구 (A Study on Spatial Characteristics and Expressions in the Choreography of Merce Cunningham and Frederic Flamand)

  • In choreography, the relationship between body and space is fundamental. Not only in the performing arts, it is an essential part in space design as well. In this sense, the comparison study between performing arts and space design will have various helpful aspects from which a creative design can be derived. This thesis aims to study spatial characteristics and expression methods in the choreography of performing arts that is dance in this case. The general background study of the relationship between body movement and space design in the modem art and architecture was explained in advance. And then its application in choreography was studied. Two case choreographers were selected: Merce Cunningham and Frederic Flamand. They have unique ways of designing and choreographing the relationship between body movements and stage spaces. This thesis attempts to find the differences as well as common characteristics between the two choreographers in terms of how they relate bodily movements and emotions into the given space.

현대 오피스 로비공간에서 빛의 조형적 표현 특성에 관한 연구 (Formative Expressions by Artificial Light applied to Office Building Lobbies)

  • Contemporary design environment is formed with image-centered trend based on pluralism. In this point of view, enterprises' building lobbies are public places containing the equivocal meaning, actively utilizing light as a design element to express the image of enterprises' identifications. Light is an immaterial entity having unlimited possibilities and potentials on space. It also acts as media to activate spaces and create new images in connection with formative elements of space. This study is to figure out how lightings are expressed and affected the formative characteristics of office lobby spaces and activate the specific characteristics of spaces. As a result, we drew conclusions as follows. First, as state-of-the-art technology and media are introduced, light is expressed on spaces as floating, direction, rhythm, silhouette, metaphor and allusion, sense of depth and volume. Second, expressive aspects of light in lobby space are embodiment of light, substantiation of immateriality, standing of materiality from the perspective of spatial aesthetics, and distortion/transformation of shape, pluralism phenomena of space from the perspective of spatial structure. In this way, light on building lobbies which are greatly required design differentiation strategy, specializes space and also integrates all the designs as not only a functional element but also a mental, psychological, formative element. Consequently, light on lobby spaces induces communication between spaces and users, makes formative value of existence in itself, and presents the characteristics of differentiated enterprises' identities.

철도부지 상부 인공지반을 활용한 국내외 복합개발 주거지의 공간구성 특징에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Spatial Composition Characteristic in Housing Development of Domestic and Foreign through the Mixed Use Development of Railroad Site)

  • Purpose: Lately, The mixed use development on railroad site came up in government policy about securing development available land for public rental housing and social cohesion. The Purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial composition characteristic in housing development example of domestic and foreign through the mixed-use development of railway depot. Method: Site cases are as follows: Shimura Depot(Japan), Kowloon Bay Depot(Hongkong), Chai Wan Depot (Hongkong), Tsuen Wan Depot(Hongkong), Montparnasse Station(France), Euralille Depot(France), Sin Jeong Depot (Korea), Tai Wai Depot(Hongkong), Tseung Kwan O Depot(Hongkong) and Rive Gauche(France). Railway Depot caused various problems such as the lacking of the feeling of solidarity of local inhabitants and the sense of community. In the case of Hong Kong and a France development example to solve these problems, the architectural characteristics appears. Result: At first it is located facilities together such as commerce, duties, the culture. Further, the publicity of the house place is strengthened because an open space, a park are developed on the railroad site. And a variety of connection systems appear between the outside space with a house housing complex built on the artificial ground. Particularly, the development example has an approach and convenience, and it was confirmed that publicness was considerably high.

조선전기 당(堂)·실(室) 결합 건축의 가구특성 분석 -방형 평면의 맞배직교형 지붕 가구를 중심으로- (A Study on the Structure of Combined Architecture of Dang and Sil in the Early Joseon Dynasty -Focusing on the Rectangular Plan and the Gable Roof Meeting at Right Angle-)

  • This study investigates how the spatial recognition structure is emerging through the case of rectangular plan combined with a combination of Dang-Sil(堂室) and Gong(工) shape roof, and identifies a type of architecture in the early Joseon Dynasty that has never been revealed. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, the Dang and the Sil are connected to each other, but the architectural elements such as pillars, frame, and windows are distinguished and appear as separate buildings. Second, the distinction between Dang and Sil is evident by the difference in the number of ridges and the shape of the roof. In addition, the roof and roof framework of the independent rooms and the rooms were common in the right angled architecture where the direction and the expandability of each structure were maintained. Third, the construction of the Dang-Sil combined structure, in which two or more structure frameworks were combined with the rectangular combined flat roof structure, gradually changed into a single structure with a single ridge. Fourth, this change means that people of the early Joseon Dynasty recognized the Dang and Sil as separate architecture, but the strict sense of spatial separation has disappeared over time.
