  • This paper studies the non-axisymmetric 3D problem on the dynamics of the moving load acting in the interior of the hollow cylinder surrounded with elastic medium and this study is made by utilizing the exact equations of elastodynamics. It is assumed that in the interior of the cylinder the point located with respect to the cylinder axis moving forces act and the distribution of these forces is non-axisymmetric and is located within a certain central angle. The solution to the problem is based on employing the moving coordinate method, on the Fourier transform with respect to the spatial coordinate indicated by the distance of the point on the cylinder axis from the point at which the moving load acts, and on the Fourier series presentation of the Fourier transforms of the sought values. Numerical results on the critical moving velocity and on the distribution of the interface normal and shear stresses are presented and discussed. In particular, it is established that the non-axisymmetricity of the moving load can decrease significantly the values of the critical velocity.

  • In this paper, we propose an optical correlator system using volume holograms for database of matched filters. Optical correlator has high speed and parallel processing characteristics of optics. Matched filters are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference images of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive crystal in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database can be achieved by rotating the crystal by use of a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the fingerprint recognition.

  • We propose an optical fingerprint identification system using volume hologram for database of matched filter. Matched filters in VanderLugt correlator are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference fingerprint photographs of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive material in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database is achieved by controlling the reference directions with a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for secure entry systems to identify individuals for access to a restricted area, security verification of credit cards, passports, and other IDs.

  • Stall inception in a high-speed centrifugal compressor has been examined. The main objective was to find stall precursor and to develop a reliable stall warning method. Eight equally spaced fast-response pressure transducers in the inducer detected the spatial structure of small amplitude perturbations, via spatial Fourier transform, as stall is approached. Near the stall inception point, the phase of spatial courier coefficients increased linearly with the speed of impeller relation for several impeller revolutions at all test speeds, and the spectrum at impeller frequency increased as stall is approached. These are the clear evidences that the impeller frequency participates in the stalling process.

  • Searching and enhancement of shadow area in the satellite imagery is one of growing interest because of new possible needs of application in this field. This paper proposes an algorithm to search and enhance the shadow areas caused by buildings such as apartments which are very common in Korean satellite imagery. The proposed searching algorithm makes use of characteristics of histogram of images in the spatial domain and also uses the fast Fourier transform and correlation in Frequency domain. Further, the enhancement algorithm is only applied to the shadow areas searched and preserves the areas which are naturally dark.

  • Compressed sensing can be used to reduce scan time or to enhance spatial resolution in MRI. It is now recognized that compressed sensing works well in reconstructing magnitude images if the sampling mask and the sparsifying transform are well chosen. Phase images also play important roles in MRI particularly in chemical shift imaging and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT). We reconstruct MRI phase images using the compressed sensing technique. Through computer simulation and real MRI experiments, we reconstructed phase images using the compressed sensing technique and we compared them with the ones reconstructed by conventional Fourier reconstruction technique. As compared to conventional Fourier reconstruction with the same number of phase encoding steps, compressed sensing shows better performance in terms of mean squared phase error and edge preservation. We expect compressed sensing can be used to reduce the scan time or to enhance spatial resolution of MREIT.

  • We have studied about spatial wavefront analysis of a pulsed laser output beam by means of an imaging unstable ring resonator with an infinite Fresnel number. We have constructed a Newtonian telescope type NBUR (Negative Branch Unstable Ring) Nd:YAG laser with 4 plane mirrors. Provided that the NBUR resonator is under self imaging condition, the resonator could be reduced diffraction effects which were occuring to the beam transmitting through the circular aperture of scraper mirror in the resonator. We have observed enhancement in the spatial coherence of wavefronts of laser beam due to the iterative round trips of the self imaging beam inside the ring resonator. The information on the spatial wavefronts was determined by the fringe patterns from Mach-Zehnder interferometer and the fringe analysis by means of the Fourier transform method showed the distortion of wavefronts of less than 0.2), In comparison with a standing wave type resonator, we have confirmed that the spatial coherence of the NBUR Nd:YAG laser output beam was enhanced as much as 75%. s 75%.

  • A core technological base to provide enhanced data rates required by 5G mobile wireless communications is the improved bandwidth efficiency using massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission. MIMO transmission requires the channel estimation using the channel state information reference signaling (CSI-RS) and appropriate beamforming, thus the design of the codebook defining proper beamforming vectors is an important issue. In this paper, we propose a multi-rank codebook based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix, by utilizing statistical properties of the channel generated by the spatial channel model (SCM). The proposed method includes a structural change of the precoding matrix indicator (PMI) by considering the phase difference distributions between adjacent antenna elements, as well as the selected codevector characteristics of each transmission layer. Performance gain of the proposed method is evaluated and verified by making the performance comparison to the 3GPP standard codebooks adopted by Long-Term Evolution (LTE) systems.

  • The dynamic instability for snapping phenomena has been studied by many researchers. Few paper deal with the dynamic bucking under the load with periodic characteristics, and the behavior under periodic excitation is expected the different behavior against STEP excitation. We investigate the fundamental mechanisms of dynamic instability when shallow EP(Elliptic Paraboliodal) shell of two degree of freedom are subjected to sinusoidal excitation with direct snapping and indirect snapping. By using Newmark-$\beta$ method, we can get the nonlinear response, and characteristics of the dynamic instability through the running response spectrum by FFT(fast Fourier Transform) and attractors are compared in the phase plane. Dynamic buckling loads are strongly influenced by the relationships between the natural frequency of structures and the dominant frequency of incident excitations.
