The uncertain geotechnical properties of frozen soil are important evidence for the design, operation and maintenance of the frozen ground. The complex geological, environmental and physical effects can lead to the spatial variations of the frozen soil, and the uncertain mechanical properties are the key factors for the uncertain analysis of frozen soil engineering. In this study, the elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio of warm frozen soil were measured, and the statistical characteristics under different temperature conditions are obtained. The autocorrelation distance (ACD) and autocorrelation function (ACF) of uncertain mechanical properties are estimated by random field (RF) method. The results show that the mean elastic modulus and mean strength decrease with the increase of temperature while the mean Poisson ratio increases with the increase of temperature. The average values of the ACD for the elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio are 0.64m, 0.53m and 0.48m, respectively. The standard deviation of the ACD for the elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio are 0.03m, 0.07m and 0.03m, respectively. The ACFs of elastic modulus, strength and Poisson ratio decrease with the increase of ratio of local average distance and scale of fluctuation. The ACF of uncertain mechanical properties is different when the temperature is different. This study can improve our understanding of the spatial autocorrelation variations of uncertain geotechnical properties and provide a basis and reference for the uncertain settlement analysis of frozen soil foundation.
A long-term gridded historical data at 3 km spatial resolution has been generated for practical regional applications such as hydrologic modelling. However, overly high or low values have been found at some grid points where complex topography or sparse observational network exist. In this study, the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) method was applied to properly smooth the overly predicted values of Improved GIS-based Regression Model (IGISRM), called the IDW-IGISRM grid data, at the same resolution for daily precipitation, maximum temperature and minimum temperature from 2001 to 2010 over South Korea. We tested various effective distances in the IDW method to detect an optimal distance that provides the highest performance. IDW-IGISRM was compared with IGISRM to evaluate the effectiveness of IDW-IGISRM with regard to spatial patterns, and quantitative performance metrics over 243 AWS observational points and four selected stations showing the largest biases. Regarding the spatial pattern, IDW-IGISRM reduced irrational overly predicted values, i. e. producing smoother spatial maps that IGISRM for all variables. In addition, all quantitative performance metrics were improved by IDW-IGISRM; correlation coefficient (CC), Index Of Agreement (IOA) increase up to 11.2% and 2.0%, respectively. Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) were also reduced up to 5.4% and 15.2% respectively. At the selected four stations, this study demonstrated that the improvement was more considerable. These results indicate that IDW-IGISRM can improve the predictive performance of IGISRM, consequently providing more reliable high-resolution gridded data for assessment, adaptation, and vulnerability studies of climate change impacts.
Decision trees are mainly used for the classification and prediction in data mining. The distribution of spatial data and relationships with their neighborhoods are very important when conducting classification for spatial data mining in the real world. Spatial decision trees in previous works have been designed for reflecting spatial data characteristic by rating Euclidean distance. But it only explains the distance of objects in spatial dimension so that it is hard to represent the distribution of spatial data and their relationships. This paper proposes a decision tree based on spatial entropy that represents the distribution of spatial data with the dispersion and dissimilarity. The dispersion presents the distribution of spatial objects within the belonged class. And dissimilarity indicates the distribution and its relationship with other classes. The rate of dispersion by dissimilarity presents that how related spatial distribution and classified data with non-spatial attributes we. Our experiment evaluates accuracy and building time of a decision tree as compared to previous methods. We achieve an improvement in performance by about 18%, 11%, respectively.
Psychological distance refers to the perceived gap between a stimulus and a person's direct experience and its activation influences the decisions and actions that the person makes towards the stimulus. We investigated whether the level of familiarity affects the construction of psychological distance. Specifically, we hypothesized that a familiar stimulus, relative to an unfamiliar stimulus, is perceived to be psychologically closer to the observer and so its perception might be modulated by the perceived spatial distance. The familiarity of stimuli was manipulated in terms of preexposure frequency and preexposure perceptual fluency. In experiments, participants were first exposed with three nonsense words in a lexical decision task. The nonsense words were presented in nonword trials with different levels of frequency (frequent vs. rare, Experiment 1) or with different levels of visibility (less blurred vs. more blurred, Experiment 2). Participants then performed a distance Stroop task with the most familiar and the least familiar nonwords. Each of them appeared in either proximal or distant spatial locations in scenes with clear depth cues. The results showed a significant interaction between the word familiarity and the spatial distance: the familiar word was judged faster in proximal locations but slower in distant locations relative to the unfamiliar word. The current findings suggest that metacognitive evaluation of familiarity could be one of the critical factors that underlie the construction of psychological distance.

This study was intended to interpose an objection about the analysis of rainfall spatial distribution without a proper standard, and offer the improved approach using 1,he geostatistical analysis method to analyze it. For this, spatially distributed daily rainfall data sets were collected for 41 weather stations in study area, and variogram and correlation analysis were conducted. In the results of correlation analysis, it was found that the longer distance between the stations reduces the correlation of the rainfall data, and maltes the characteristics of the rainfall spatial distribution. The variogram analysis shows that correlation range was less than 50 km for the 17 daily rainfall data sets of total 91 sets. It says that it involves some rike, to determine the application method for rainfall spatial distribution without some qualifications, hence the Application standards of the Rainfall Spatial Distribution Analysis Technique, were essential and that was contingent on characteristics of rainfall and landscape.
This study overviews existing evaluation methods of classification accuracy using confusion matrix proposed by Cohen in 1960's, and proposes ISDd(Index of Spatial Distribution by distance) and ISDs(Index of Spatial Distribution by scatteredness) for the evaluation of spatial distribution of satellite image classification errors, which has not been tried yet. Index of spatial distribution offers the basis of decision on adoption/rejection of classification results at sub-image level by evaluation of distribution, such as status of local aggregation of misclassified pixels. So, users can understand the spatial distribution of misclassified pixels and, can have the basis of judgement of suitability and reliability of classification results.
This study examined the effects of egocentric distance and screen size on learners' perceived virtual presence in a virtual reality environment with a large-screen display. Sixty-four undergraduate students participated in the study, which used a 3×2 randomized-block factorial design with repeated measures. Two independent variables were included: 1) egocentric distance, or the physical distance between the viewer's position and a screen display, and 2) screen size, or different screen heights with fixed width. Learners' perceived virtual presence, comprising involvement, spatial presence, and realness, was the dependent variable. Results showed that egocentric distance had significant effects on virtual presence, while screen size had none. A detailed discussion and implications are provided.

The optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) is the most widely used method to monitor problems with currently installed optical fibers. The OTDR is an instrument designed to test the FTTx network and evaluates the physical properties of the fiber, such as transmission loss and connection loss. It is important to improve the spatial resolution in order to accurately grasp the optical path problems by using the OTDR. When the pulse width is less than twice the distance between the two reflectors, the signals reflected from the two reflectors are reflected without overlap, so that the reflected signal can be distinguished. However, when the pulse width is larger than twice the distance between the two reflectors, so that the reflected signal can not be distinguished. In order to overcome these limitations, this paper proposed a method of improving spatial resolution by applying a super resolution algorithm. As a result of the simulation, the resolution is improved when the super resolution algorithm is applied, and the event interval can be analyzed more precisely.
Most of hydrological analyses in the field of water resources are launched by gathering and analyzing rainfall data. Several methods have been developed to estimate areal rainfall from point rainfall data and to fill missing or ungaged data. Thiessen and Reciprocal Distance Squared(RDS) methods whose parameters are only dependent on inter-station distance are classical work in hydrology, but these techniques do not provide a continuous representation of the hydrologic process involved. In this study, kriging technique was applied to rainfall analysis in Nakdong river basin in order to complement the defects of these classical methods and to reflect spatial characteristics of regional rainfall. After spatial correlation and semi-variogram analyses were performed to perceive regional rainfall property, kriging analysis was performed to interpolate rainfall data for each grid Thus, these procedures were enable to estimate average rainfall of subbasins. In addition, poor region of rainfall observation was analyzed by spatial interpolation error for each grid and mean error for each subbasin.

It is likely that the spatial structure of the intraurban accessibility as well as the accessibility value of each of the nodes in the subway network is affected by the addition of new linkages. The changes in the accessibility at individual nodes also affect the accessibility in the surrounding areas at some distances away from the nodes. Graph-theoretic algorithms have been developed as a proper measurement scheme for the nodal accessibility in tracked transport networks such as subway networks. However, the graph-theoretic measurements have limitations to estimate the spatial diffusion effect on the surrounding areas. This study proposes a new model for the spatial diffusion effect estimation of nodal accessibility increment in the subway network toward the surrounding areas. Since the distance decay trend of subway station use reflect the spatial diffusion effect of the accessibility of subway station toward the surrounding area. The model is deduced from the subway station use density function which is formulated by the questionnaire survey data.
