  • In this paper, we propose an efficient preceding scheme for STBC-Spatial Muiltiplexing OFDM systems. In MIMO systems, the precoder is designed on the assumption that feedback channel information is perfectly known to transmitter and receiver. However, feedback delay and link errors in real environment make the transmitter use the incorrect channel information and consequently cause the performance degradation. The proposed precoder is designed to compensate for the performance degradation by the diversity gain provided by STBC. At the transmitter, the precoder for each subcarrier is constructed by using the index of codebook, subcarrier correlation, and auto correlation of channel. From the simulation results, STBC-spatial multiplexing OFDM outperforms the preceded-spatial multiplexing OFDM at $SER=10^{-3}$ when the Doppler frequency is greater than 60Hz.

  • We propose a deterministic vector channel simulation model satisfying not only rigorous temporal correlation but also arbitrary spatial correlation using the method of Doppler phase difference sampling. The model is more efficient than the conventional PN filtered Gaussian model with coloring process in evaluating the laboratory performance of mobile communication systems employing adaptive way antennas or space diversity.

  • The analysis of maximum diversity order and coding gain for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems over time-and frequency-selective (or doubly-selective) channels is addressed in this paper. A novel channel time-space correlation function is developed given the spatially correlated doubly-selective Rayleigh fading channel model. Based on this channel-model assumption, the upper-bound of pairwise error probability (PEP) for MIMO-OFDM systems is derived under the maximum likelihood (ML) detection. For a certain space-frequency code, we quantify the maximum diversity order and deduce the expression of coding gain. In this wort the impact of channel time selectivity is especially studied and a new definition of time diversity is illustrated correspondingly

  • This paper proposes an antenna selection and switching system between spatial multiplexing and diversity techniques. The proposed system overcomes spatial correlation by using antenna selection method and improve bit error performance with switching encoding nudes between a spatial multipexing encoder and a diversity encoder. Therefore, in a 4 transmit and 2 receive antenna system first, the proposed system selects 2 transmit antennas, and next, switches encoding modes between Space-Time Transmit Diversity and BLAST according to instantaneous channel information. Computer simulations showed that the proposed system improves about 2 or 3 ㏈ SNR in low correlated channel and about 3 ㏈ SNR in highly correlated channel rather than a 2 by 2 antenna switching system.

  • Temporal and spatial variations of surface water temperature in Jinju Bay for the period of 2010~2011 were studied using the data from temperature monitoring buoys deployed at 17 stations in the south coast of Korea. Water temperature shows the maximum late in January and the minimum early in August. Seasonal variation of water temperatures at the north part of the bay is smaller than the middle and the south. In summer, the lowest and the highest of maximum water temperature are distributed around Jijok Channel which is located at the south of the bay. The fluctuations of water temperatures at Noryang and Daebang Channel are smaller than others because of vertical mixing caused by passage of strong tidal currents. Wind and strong currents affect on the stratification of the surface water layer near Daebang Channel. High temperatures come in frequently around the north area when eastward constant flows appear at neap tide as blowing westerly in the springtime at Noryang Channel. Spectral analyses of temperature records show significant peaks at 7~20 day periods at Noryang Channel, 7~20 day and semidiurnal at the west coast of Changsun Island and Jijok Channel and 7~20 day and diurnal at the middle of the bay. Temperature fluctuation at Noryang Channel shows high coherence and has leading phase with those at other stations in the bay. However, the phase of temperature fluctuation at Noryang Channel falls behind that at Daebang Channel. Daebang Channel has an influence on the temperature fluctuation only at the west and middle part of the bay. Cross-correlation analyses for the temperature fluctuation show that Jinju Bay could be classified into six areas; Noryang Channel, the area of convergence and divergence at the north, Daebang Channel, the west coast of Changsun Island, the mixing area at the middle of the bay and the south inside of the bay, respectively.

  • The application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has recently attracted considerable interest in various areas. A three-dimensional multiple-input multiple-output concentric two-hemisphere model is proposed to characterize the scattering environment around a vehicle in an urban UAV-to-vehicle communication scenario. Multipath components of the model consisted of lineof-sight and single-bounced components. This study focused on the key parameters that determine the scatterer distribution. A time-variant process was used to analyze the nonstationarity of the proposed model. Vital statistical properties, such as the space-time-frequency correlation function, Doppler power spectral density, level-crossing rate, average fade duration, and channel capacity, were derived and analyzed. The results indicated that with an increase in the maximum scatter radius, the time correlation and level-crossing rate decreased, the frequency correlation function had a faster downward trend, and average fade duration increased. In addition, with the increase of concentration parameter, the time correlation, space correlation, and level-crossing rate increased, average fade duration decreased, and Doppler power spectral density became flatter. The proposed model was compared with current geometry-based stochastic models (GBSMs) and showed good consistency. In addition, we verified the nonstationarity in the temporal and spatial domains of the proposed model. These conclusions can be used as references in the design of more reasonable communication systems.

  • In this paper, the reception performance of spatial modulation multiple-output multiple-input (MIMO) is analyzed for high speed terrestrial broadcasting. The MIMO scheme is required to reduce the inter symbol interference (ISI) and spatial correlation. The spatial modulation scheme solves the problem of ISI, but the spatial correlation degrades the reception performance of SM scheme. The space-time block coded spatial modulation (STBC-SM) is combined the SM system with space-time block code (STBC) for reducing the effects of the spatial correlation. However, the STBC-SM scheme degrades the spectral efficiency by transmitting same data in the two symbol period. The double space-time transmit diversity with spatial modulation (DSTTD-SM) scheme transmits the data with full antenna combination. To adapt these SM MIMO systems into the terrestrial broadcasting system, the reception performance is analyzed using computer simulation in SUI channel environments.

  • Albedo is one of the climate variables that modulate absorption of solar energy, and its retrieval is important process for climate change study. High spatial resolution and long-term consistent periods are important considerations in order to efficiently use the retrieved albedo data. This study retrieved surface broadband albedo based on Landsat 8 as high resolution which is consistent with Landsat 7. First of all, we analyzed consistency of Landsat 7 channel and Landsat 8 channel. As a result, correlation coefficient(R) on all channels is average 0.96. Based on this analysis, we used multiple linear regression model using Landsat 7 albedo, which is being used in many studies, and Landsat 8 reflectance channel data. The regression coefficients of each channel calculated by regression analysis were used to derive a formula for converting the Landsat 8 reflectance channel data to broadband albedo. After Landsat 8 albedo calculated using the derived formula is compared with Landsat 7 albedo data, we confirmed consistency of two satellite using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), R-square ($R^2$) and bias. As a result, $R^2$ is 0.89 and RMSE is 0.003 between Landsat 7 albedo and Landsat 8 albedo.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of space diversity technologies using experimental data in order to analyze the usability of space diversity techniques in underwater channel environments. After analyzing the experimental data we found out that high diversity gain should not be expected when using a stationary transmitter with a stationary receivers in swallow underwater channel. And we also find out that the distance between sensors should be at least 8 wavelengths apart to take advantage of diversity gain in underwater moving channel environments.

  • This paper proposes a new quantitative and objective image quality metric which is essential to verify the performance of block-based DCT image coding. The proposed metric considers not only global distortion of coded image such as spatial frequency sensitivity and channel masking using HVS based multi-channel model, but also structural distortions caused block-based coding. The experimental results show a strong correlation between proposed metric and subjective metric.
