  • Because the demand or sensitivity of users of space has an important influence on the direction of design concerning indoor greening, this study examined the customers' preferences and trends for use in this field. By analyzing the results, types of space for indoor greening that can be utilized as indoor greening design such as vegetation selection, space positioning, design types, etc. were derived. The research and analysis was set for living space, business space, commercial space and public space. For each space, there were vegetations in over 50% of the space, and in all the spaces, the majority of people were of the positive opinion. As the desired space for the introduction of indoor greening, high levels of preference were seen in the following areas: 'veranda' and 'living room' for the residential space; 'main work space' and 'resting space' for the office space; and 'rest area,' 'entrance area' and 'lobby area' for the public space and commercial space. The preference of each of the spaces displayed slightly different trends in accordance with the characteristics of space and users. If indoor greening space were to be designed for these spaces according to the types, which are derived from the preference levels examined in this study, it is deemed that the satisfaction levels of users of the spaces could be increased.

  • Recently, for safety of people, there are proposed so many technologies which detect density of people at the specific place or space. The representative technology for crowd density estimation was using image analysis method from CCTV images. However, this method had a weakness which could not be used and which's accuracy was lower at the dark or smog space. Therefore, in this paper, to solve this problem, we proposed a user density estimation system at closed space using high frequency and smart device. The system send inaudible high frequencies to smart devices and it count the smart devices which detect the high frequencies on the space. We tested real-time user density with the proposed system and ten smart devices to evaluate performance. According to the testing results, we confirmed that the proposed system's accuracy was 95% and it was very useful. Thus, because the proposed system could estimate about user density at specific space exactly, it could be useful technology for safety of people and measurement of space use state at indoor space.

  • Conversion of the building can be a core strategy to activate the urban regeneration. Especially in the decayed district, the conversion or retrofit of old building can be a core catalyst to stimulate the urban regeneration. Throughout the case study, a conversion from office to dwelling, there were figured out the design strategies to respond to spatial, functional requirements. The results are as follows ; 1) The main design strategy is to articulate the space by embedding the wall, mass in the rectangular space. 2) to respond to the small size of space, the flexible, movable wall system Is adopted. This gives the selectiveness to the use of space. 3) to secure the livability of interior space, the buffer zone, a terrace space, is fully utilized. This space acts as thermal buffer zone as well as a semi-interior space.

  • Lunar permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) never see direct sunlight and are illuminated only by secondary illumination - light reflected from nearby topography. The ShadowCam imaging experiment onboard the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter is acquiring images of these PSRs. We characterize and discuss the nature of secondary illumination for the Shackleton PSR from ShadowCam radiance-calibrated images. We also use modeling to understand the magnitude and direction of the secondary illumination. Results from our analysis highlight the non-homogeneous, dynamic, and complex nature of PSR secondary lighting. Knowledge of the direction of the secondary illumination is crucial for reli-able interpretation of contrasts observed in ShadowCam images. This preliminary analysis of the floor of Shackleton crater from images acquired over multiple secondary illumination conditions does not reveal indications of exposed surface ice, even though temperatures are constantly below 110K.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine wandering behaviors of the elderly with dementia at elderly care facilities, thus finding out the current status of supportability and safety of wandering space for facility residents and looking into the convenience of management for the control and Support of the elderly with dementia in wandering space, from the aspect of managers. Study methods consisted of literature examination, on-site assessment and investigation, observation and questionnaire survey. And via a questionnaire survey of facility workers at study subject facilities, the current status and facility workers' perception of wandering space and their job-satisfaction were examined. Collected data of 133 respondents were used for analysis. Data were processed with the SPSS 18.0 program, and such analytic techniques as frequency, percentage, mean, multiple response analysis, chi-square test and correlation analysis were carried out. The problems of physical environment of wandering space for the elderly with dementia: First, it is urgent to establish wandering space. Second, thoughtlessly installed chairs in the corridor impeded wandering behaviors. Third, the grips installed in the corridor space were irregular, thus causing inconvenience for wandering behaviors. Thus making residents' use of it difficult. In order to improve these problems, it is necessary to newly or additionally establish wandering space and modify the location of chairs or establish alcoves, thus reducing impedimentary elements for wandering behaviors. Providing a proper wandering space is important for facility residents. And it is also important for facility workers to manage facility residents.

  • With the rise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and I-Korea 4.0, both of which pursue strategies for industrial innovation and for the solution to social problems, the real estate industry needs to change in order to make effective use of available space in smart environments. The implementation of smart spaces is a promising solution for this. The smart space is defined as a good use of space, whether it be a home, office, or retail store, within a smart environment. To enhance the use of smart spaces, efficient decision-making and well-timed and accurate interaction are required. This paper proposes a smart space based on platform which takes advantage of emerging technologies for the efficient storage, processing, analysis, and utilization of big data. The platform is composed of six layers - collection, transfer, storage, service, application, and management - and offers three service frameworks: activity-based, market-based, and policy-based. Based on these smart space services, decision-makers, consumers, clients, and social network participants can make better decisions, respond more quickly, exhibit greater innovation, and develop stronger competitive advantages.

  • Louis Sullivan insisted, "Form follows function." Functionality is one of the most fundamental elements for users to use product or space, and "function" in space and architecture has the meaning of the most important factor in determining its form. In this way, from the viewpoint of "Functionalism," the research selected Toyo Ito to see how important elements pursued by Functionalism are related to his forms of creation. Small residential space projects of Toyo Ito from the early 1970s to the present are selected, so that the structure, material and space type of space and architecture can easily grasped and analyzed. Space and architectural structures and surfaces were classified into the characteristics of materials and classified according to the strength of openness of space. As a result, the space and architecture that pursue the function use a method that can maximize the efficiency of the function while excluding the whole decoration in order to highlight the function. The characteristics found in Toyo Ito's small-scale residential space can be defined as the formalization and simplification of the form, the openness of space, and the versatility of each element.

  • We use iterative smoothing reconstruction method along with exploring in the parameter space of the light curves of the JLA supernova compilation (Joint Light-curve Analysis) to simultaneously reconstruct the expansion history of the universe as well as putting constrains on the light curve parameters without assuming any cosmological model. Our constraints on the light curve parameters of the JLA from our model-independent analysis seems to be closely in agreement with results assuming ΛCDM cosmology or using Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) parametrization for the equation of state of dark energy. This implies that there is no hidden significant feature in the data that could be neglected by cosmology model assumption. The reconstructed expansion history of the universe and properties of dark energy seems to be in good agreement with expectations of the standard ΛCDM model. Our results also indicate that the data allows a considerable flexibility for expansion history of the universe.
