  • In this paper, an improved dead time compensation method which is concerned about dead time and extra time in Pulse-Width-Modulation(PWM) period is presented comparing the existing dead time compensation. The voltage drop across the switches are modeled excluding effect of stray capacitor. A low pass filter(LPF) is adopted for accurate detecting of current polarity. The method is based on Space-Vector-Pulse-Width-Modulation(SVPWM). All simulation results are presented using MATLAB and Simulink.

  • To obtain phase currents information in AC drives, shunt sensing technology is known to show great performance in cost-effectiveness and therefore it is widely used in low cost applications. However, shunt sensing methods are unable to acquire phase currents in certain operation conditions. This paper deals with the derivation of the boundary conditions for phase current reconstruction in three-shunt sensing inverters and proposes a voltage injection method to expand the measurable areas. As the boundary conditions are deeply dependent on the switching patterns, they are typically analyzed on the voltage vector plane for space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM). In the proposed method, the voltage injection and its compensation are conducted within one sampling period. This guarantees fast current reconstruction and the injected voltage is decided so as to minimize the current ripple. In addition to the voltage injection method, a sampling point shifting method is also introduced to improve the boundary conditions. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the boundary condition derivation and the effectiveness of the proposed voltage injection method.

  • For revolving and elevating a turret of a tank, we substitute an existing oil pressure system with an electric system using a motor and applied the vector control method to this system. A switching method of an inverter for providing desired sinusoidal current to each phase of a motor, we adopted min-max pulse width modulation method which takes less computation time, rather than space vector pulse width modulation method. We designed a digital filter and applied it to the control system. Developed current controller is verified it's performance through a current control test, speed control test, frequency response and tracking a profile of speed test.

  • This paper proposes a novel and direct dead-time compensation method of the 3-phase inverter using space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) topology. The proposed dead-time compensation method directly compensates the dead-time to the turn-on time of the effective voltage vector according to the current direction of the medium voltage reference. Each phase voltages are determined by the switching times of the effective voltage vectors, and the practical switching times have loss according to the current direction by the dead-time effect in the 3-phase inverter. The proposed method adds the dead-time to the switching time of the effective voltage vector according to the current direction, so it does not require complex d-q transform and controller to compensate the voltage error. The proposed dead-time compensation scheme is verified by the computer simulation and experiments of 3-phase R-L load.

  • This study proposes a new modulation strategy to deal with unbalanced output voltage that is based on three-level neutral-point-clamped cascaded rectifiers. The fundament idea is to reallocate the value of the voltage levels generated by each of the modules on the basis of space vector pulse width modulation. This proposed modulation strategy can reduce the switching frequency while maintaining the mutual-module voltage balance. First, an analysis of unbalanced output voltage is reflected. Then a new modulation strategy is introduced in detail. Internal module capacitor voltages are balanced by the selection of redundant vectors. Moreover, the voltage balance ability is calculated. Finally, the feasibility of this modulation strategy is verified through experimental results.

  • This paper deals with an algorithm for controlling ac output voltage of Z-source inverter using Modified SVPWM (abbreviated as MSVPWM). Unlike the conventional space vector pulse width modulation, MSVPWM has one extra shoot-through zero time $T_{sh}$. During shoot-through zero time, both switches in a leg are conducted simultaneously in order to boost inverter output voltage to any desirable value regardless the line voltage. The algorithm to control linearly the capacitor voltage is suggested to improve the performance of Z-source inverter system. The performance of Z-source inverter using above algorithms is demonstrated in simulation results using PSIM. Index terms-Z-source inverter (ZSI), shoot-through time, three-phase carrier-based PWM, space vector PWM (SVPWM), modified space vector PWM (MSVPWM).

  • The RPWM (Random· Pulse Width Modulation) is a switching technique to spread the voltage and current harmonics over a wide frequency area. By using randomly changing switching frequency of the inverter, the power spectrum of the electromagnetic acoustic noise can be spread to the wide-band area. The wideband noise is much more comfortable and less annoying than the narrow-band one. So, the RPWM has been attracting interest as an excellent method for the reduction of acoustic noise on the inverter drive system. In this paper a new RPPWM (Random Position Space Vector PWM) is proposed and implemented. Each of three phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Along with the randomization of PWM pulses, the space vector modulation is also executed in the C167 micro-controller. The experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics are spread to a wide band area and that the audible switching noise is reduced by the proposed RPPWM method.
