  • To improve the efficiency and economics of national defence, the needs for defence M&S systems are greatly increased, but the lack of interoperability and reusability lowers the level of reliability in the existing simulations models. Recently, many research activities have been performed and some conceptual models, such as CMMS, DCMF, and KAMA, were introduced. However, these models don't support the whole process of defence M&S system development nor provide integrated domain knowledge and up-to-date data. In this paper, we analyzed the analysts' guidances and doctrines, which are the basic ingredients for the simulation system development, and proposed a systematic structure for all the defence M&S stakeholders to share the standardized domain knowledge, modeling algorithm and data. This will be a logical bridge between Mission Space and Simulation Space, and provide substantial data sets to build simulation systems.

  • SIGMA(Scientific cubesat with Instruments for Global Magnetic field and rAdiation)

  • This paper describes the Flight Dynamics Automation (FDA) system for COMS Flight Dynamics System (FDS) and its test result in terms of the performance of the automation jobs. FDA controls the flight dynamics functions such as orbit determination, orbit prediction, event prediction, and fuel accounting. The designed FDA is independent from the specific characteristics which are defined by spacecraft manufacturer or specific satellite missions. Therefore, FDA could easily links its autonomous job control functions to any satellite mission control system with some interface modification. By adding autonomous system along with flight dynamics system, it decreases the operator's tedious and repeated jobs but increase the usability and reliability of the system. Therefore, FDA is used to improve the completeness of whole mission control system's quality. The FDA is applied to the real flight dynamics system of a geostationary satellite, COMS and the experimental test is performed. The experimental result shows the stability and reliability of the mission control operations through the automatic job control.

  • This study aims to overview research articles on extrasolar planets using Kepler mission data during the period of 2009-2015 in order to discover research trends in them. Kepler space observatory is a NASA space observatory for extrasolar planet expedition launched in March 2009, contributed to the discovery and tracking of extrasolar planets and its candidates. In order to achieve the goal of this study, we classified research subjects from studies on Kepler mission data year by year and found the most frequent research topics each year. We also conducted a comparative analysis on the research subjects based on time series and examined any changes with respect to the goal of Kepler mission. Statistical meta-analysis is employed as the analysis method for the key words presented in the research articles. This study is a part of on-going research to find the correlation between the physical parameters of the host star and extrasolar planets. The results of this study could offer new directions in researches utilizing Kepler mission data as those meta-analyses in social sciences often suggest new opportunities. We have high expectations that more extrasolar planet studies will follow as we make further progresses in various analyses.

  • In a satellite gravimetry mission similar to GRACE, the precision of inter-satellite ranging is one of the key factors affecting the quality of gravity field recovery. In this paper, the impact of ranging precision on the accuracy of recovered geopotential coefficients is analyzed. Simulated precise orbit determination (POD) data and inter-satellite range data of formation-flying satellites containing white noise were generated, and geopotential coefficients were recovered from these simulated data sets using the crude acceleration approach. The accuracy of the recovered coefficients was quantitatively compared between data sets encompassing different ranging precisions. From this analysis, a rough prediction of the accuracy of geopotential coefficients could be obtained from the hypothetical mission. For a given POD precision, a ranging measurement precision that matches the POD precision was determined. Since the purpose of adopting inter-satellite ranging in a gravimetry mission is to overcome the imprecision of determining orbits, ranging measurements should be more precise than POD. For that reason, it can be concluded that this critical ranging precision matching the POD precision can serve as the minimum precision requirement for an on-board ranging device. Although the result obtained herein is about a very particular case, this methodology can also be applied in cases where different parameters are used.

  • The space systems are being operated in a uncertain space environment and are desired to have autonomous capability for long periods of time without frequent telecommunications with the ground station. At the same time, requirements for new set of satellite system set of projects/systems calling for "autonomous" operations for long unattended periods of time are emerging. Since, by the nature of space systems, it is desired to perform its mission flawlessly and also it is of extreme importance to have fault-tolerant sensors and actuators for the purpose of validating science measurement data for the mission success. This studies focused on the identification/demonstration of critical technology innovations that will be applied to the Validation Control System.

  • On March 6 2021, Apophis made a close approach to the Earth with a minimum distance of 0.11 AU when the apparent magnitude reached up to V~16. This was the most favorable condition to observe this asteroid until its 2029 encounter. The observations during this apparition were extremely important to determine major physical properties, such as size, rotational state, 3D shape model, surface mineral properties. So, we organized the observation campaign during the 2021 apparition. The main goals of our campaign are to refine the spin state and 3D shape model and check the surface composition variations. The campaign involved dozens of countries and included ground-based photometry and spectroscopy, and spacecraft observations. Our timely observation campaign will provide essential data in planning the operation scenario for the space mission. In this presentation, we will report the preliminary result of the Apophis observation campaign during the 2021 apparition.
